She also did it 20 years ago. Taylor is selling more than her while her album is also available to stream for free on Spotify.

HAHAHA poor pressed soul.

And who’s talking about her? Her career ended in 2012.

OT: INSANE!!

Once in a few years we have a woman doing an exceptional feat and y’all can’t just band together to congratulate her?

OP update: insane number, whether it’s 1.4M or 1.6M :clap3:

oof adele stans are going THROUGH it :deadbanana4: taylor’s ambition and work ethic knows no limits. truly a one of kind artist.

Poor Bad Bunny. He was going to get the #1 album of 2022 (calendar year) now Taylor will get it if she opens with 1.5 millon. She has 10 more weeks to pass the 3 million mark and snatch Bad Bunny's wig.

So there's only been one successful week in the history of album sales? :deadbanana2:

Yes apparently. :gaycat6:.

Whew Taylor reaching new heights and eclipsing everyone else atm!

The fact that most of these users are still trying it and have commented already in this thread

Some of the predictions, too, like they actually convinced themselves some other girlie was the end all be all of music - hope they know better now

And in a time when literally the only way to listen to music was to buy a CD.

This is absolutely insane :clownny:Imagine if she had performed at Super Bowl!

I honestly can't wait for her next release. If it opens with 600-800k with her plethora of versions then I can't wait to bump all these Swifties. Because it will SURELY be embarrassing if Taylor can't significantly outsell her own re-recording with her next studio album.

let's be real, Britney did because back then singles weren't sold on their own, you needed to buy the album for 1 song

hence why Britney's albums sales were huge vs the singles sales

no one remembers the album tho

Oops (the song) is a staple of pop culture 20 years later. In 20 years will anyone remember any song from Midnights? Celebrate your fave's 20 copies being bought over and over by the same fans and keep Brit out of it, kthxbye

So only the literal biggest first week of all time is "impressive?" :clownny:

You do realise 1.6M in 2022 is equivalent to 3M in the early 2010s, right? :ahh:

That is so very much not how any of this works that I can’t even put it into words. The literal biggest debut in the history of recorded music is not the only thing that can be considered “highly impressive.” :toofunny3:

How much of this is streams? I thought her fans were younger, why are they buying so many physical copies? Is it as a collector's item?

She’s so committed, stable, and talented that I can honestly see her next album doing over 1M again too. A legend :clap3:

It's not even in the top 100 most streamed songs of the 2000s :deadbanana: Again, Britney selling 1.3M in 2000 when 5/6 other albums debuted with similar or higher figures (it only ranked #4 on the YEC :deadbanana:) is hardly impressive. Not to mention its lead single didn’t have a proper physical/retail release in hopes of drawing attention to the album instead.

People remember 5 second choreography and a catsuit. Does anyone remember the verses of Oops?

The Ed Sheeran of the pop girls :rip:accessible and safe

Would Ed Sheeran ever switch to a new genre and surprise release 2 inaccessible and risky folk records back to back within the same year? :rip:

And the irony of you saying she's not like 1989 or Reputation Taylor when the reason why she's outselling 1989's opening week is because she's never been this universally beloved before

She was very polarizing and hated during 1989 and Reputation but thanks to folklore/evermore she's now respected not just by pop fans

A much better place to be in lol

1.6m in 2022 = 3.4m in 2015? According to who? lol

You should take a math class because :rip:

Now what we are not going to do is call the biggest female debut from 2000 to 2015 "hardly impressive". :tsk:
