Ugh I just read the previous few pages and the reviews here are tempting me to listen to this album BUT I've never listened to a full body of work from Björk before :chick2: Do you guys think Fossora would be a good start?

no, lol

I'm cleansing my palette with Utopia before Fossora comes out here and I love how at the end of Sue Me she's just like... narcissistiC

Björk is so talented that everyone has different favorites, get a grip

Even the albums at the bottom of my personal album rankings I still very much respect

Mostly agreed, except that any Biophilia disrespect should be punishable by death

Debut is lowkey her worst, maybe in competition with Volta... everything else in her discography is 10/10, with Vespertine and Vulnicura being 11/10

Debut is iconic and has all the bops.

after one day with this masterpiece my preliminar album ranking is:

atopos > fossora > freefall > ancestress > her mother's house > fungal city > victimhood > allow > ovule > trolla-gabba > fagurt er i fjordum > mycelia > sorrowful soil

or:

extremely good:

atopos > fossora > freefall > ancestress

great:

her mother's house > fungal city > victimhood > allow > ovule

cute:

trolla-gabba > fagurt er i fjordum > mycelia

Sorrowful Soil is a masterpiece!

it's insane! the chord progression & resolution on "self sacri-fi-shi-hii-iii-aaaaaaal" at the halfway point of the song is SO satisfying.

Tiers atm

excellence Her Mother's House > Ancestress > Fungal City

great Atopos > Fossora > Victimhood> Freefall

good Sorrowful Soil > Ovule

OK Trölla-Gabba

we're gonna pretend we didn't hear that Allow > Mycelia > Fagurt

Victimhood on first listen is... I don't even know how to explain what I just heard. Unfortunately as much as I love all the sonic components, the fact that there isn't a melody in sight makes it a skip for me for now. Hopefully it'll grow on me but would it kill her to give us more than rambling over intentionally alarming dissonance?

I had all my thoughts written out and they got cleared :gaycat7:

Anyway, my most important thought was that holy ****, I think this might by my favorite album she's done besides Vespertine and I was so not expecting this

Couldn't possibly pick one of Sorrowful Soil, Ancestress, Freefall, or Her Mother's House to toss so I have no trinity, I've got four in the top tier. Victimhood and Fungal City after that, maybe Allow, then Ovule - but everything on the album is good. On another note, I don't know if anyone else hears it, but Victimhood gives me a little bit of Hunter in terms of atmosphere and tone, and the album as a whole gives me big Isobel energy, even though the instrumentation isn't quite like that song. Lots of Medúlla all over the place too, especially the first half.
