Oh my ! AFRICA aka the best 80s song ever being 8x Platinum

In reality, “Africa” should be 11x platinum making it the biggest-selling song from the 1980’s overall, just above “Thriller/Don’t Stop Believin”.

It’s 3x platinum in Physical units and 8x Platinum in Digital/SPS units.

:hoetenks:

In 1984, a platinum certification was 2M units sold. 3x platinum and above were awarded “Multi-Platinum” status until the RIAA changed the threshold in 1989.

For some reason, however, the RIAA doesn’t combine the units of physical songs sold pre-1989 to what they’ve sold today, digitally or SPS wise. There are several big hits from the ‘80’s missing out on higher certs. because of that.
