I was speaking about Asia as a whole containing music markets vs Europe for example, Japan is still only 1 country and does not define a peak :rip:

#1s globally did not come close to her peak which was Music Box.

…Yes a peak tends to be a peak era

Mariah had a very successful “run” in the 90/ which is different, but she was in no way still at her peak by the late 90s when she was being overshadowed and outsold by The Spice Girls, Madonna, Britney, Xtina, Shania, etc.

The way you threw in people like Xtina whose debut and peak was outsold by that exact 1998 Mariah release. :rip:

What happened was you forgot that Mariah sold 32 million albums in 97-99 which was more than 90-92 widely considered as part of her peak/ :rip:

90-92 wasn’t her peak either

A peak is when an artist is at their biggest, Mariah was at her biggest from 1993-1994, Butterfly & Rainbow sold a 1/3 of her peak album.

1990 - 1992 = a three albums overlap

Mariah Carey charted from 1990 - 1992

Emotions charted from 1991 - 1992

MTV charted from 1992 - 1993

--

1993 - 1997 = a three albums overlap

Music Box charted from 1993 - 1996

Merry Christmas charted from 1994 - 1995, 2009-2022

Daydream charted from 1995 - 1997

Butterfly charted from 1997 - 1999

--

1998 - 1999 = a three albums overlap

#1's charted from 1998 - 2000

Rainbow charted from 1999 - 2000

with a #1 single in each year, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, (2000) she really did use the entire decade.

according to chartsmasters

Sales USA versus internationally:

this is about peaks, Janet was overshadow worldwide in the 80s for Madonna and in the 90s for Mariah/Whitney, that's why i didn´t include also Christina, Katy, etc...

you realize Janet had 18 straight top 10 hits from 1986-1993 & Cyndi Lauper had one successful album (that ended up overshadowed by Madonna :toofunny2:) but okay

the OP clearly said "worldwide" why you so bitter

Janet was extremely local which is a very good sign for the type of music she made

her supposed "local" peak is much bigger than Cyndi's "global" peak

Cyndi felt bigger since her 2 songs were worldwide hits

Janet had 18 local Top 10s there's no competition here

Now that we think about it Janet is like the Ciara of 80s and I say that in the most respectful way possible.

Not you extending Gaga’s peak by 2 years (her actual peak was 2009-2011) and erasing Katy’s massive 2009-2014 :dies:

What is Rihanna doing on this list then? Or Pre-2014 Taylor? This doesn’t make any sense at all.
