And it's impossible to get a vaccine in NYC. For the third time, all 1,200 appointments were booked up with the website to register for appointments crashing multiple times.

The oldest one used which left a scar is ACAM2000..and no one probably besides nurses at risk/military members have received it because smallpox was eradicated decades ago, so there's really no need to have ACAM2000 around, particularly because of its gnarly side effects. There is a stockpile of 100m in the event of a bio attack but those aren't being used either

I’m getting the vaccine tomorrow but I was told when I called that it’s actually the smallpox vaccine which is 85% effective against monkeypox and the side effects tend to be mild :dancehall3:

So what is the truth…did you guys get the smallpox or monkeypox vaccine? I’m confused

I go to the All East Clinics - Sir Ludwig Guttman or Ambrose King Centre depending which has appointments.

Try calling and see if you can get the vaccine there.

Just got my vaccine today at mortimer market centre, seems like today was their first day giving them !

What are the side effects? And what about the new one?

All I know is that there's quite a bit, I'd suggest Googling ACAM2000 side effects. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-most-dangerous-vaccine/ The new one is technically safer than the ACAM2000

The vaccine they're giving out (JYNNEOS) is technically a smallpox vaccine, which is just as effective as preventing smallpox as the old ACAM2000 but safer. A study taken in the 80s showed that the ACAM2000 was 85% effective at preventing monkeypox (https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/clinicians/smallpox-vaccine.html) and animal data showed Jynneos helped against monkeypox. Make of that information what you will. Smallpox and monkeypox are also in the same virus family. So, they're expecting that this JYNNEOs vaccine should be 85% effective based on that fact and the older data. Efficacy data on actual monkeypox prevention isn't really a thing with this newer vaccine... particularly because this version of MPX is mutated which doesn't help...but hopefully it does.

Anyway worst side effect for me was just feeling tired the first two days and the soreness. Still kinda sore if I touch it or press on it and I got it last thursday.

gurl... there's no monkeypox invented... it's the smallpox one and you already answered to yourself... is the only thing available and it's 85% effective... then again, can we remember that the covid vaccine had also similar numbers ?lol.. just go and get it.

I was worried the vaccine they were giving was the same as the old smallpox one from decades ago and the side effects were being downplayed.

I didn’t realise it was the new jynneos vaccine and that it’s safer.

My anxiety is just getting the best of me :skull: I’ll get the vaccine tomorrow and see how it goes

Germany is once again so slow with the vaccine rollout. I called my doctor and she only put me in the list and will contact me once she has the vaccines :rip:

I was planning to get vaccinated before the Lady Gaga's concert. But well....

Got the vaccine today and feeling ok so far

Some members said they were getting 2 shots weeks apart but I was told it’s only 1 shot needed for now and that it’s effective after 2 weeks.

MPX spreads through contact with clothes & bed linen :biblio:

The good news is that, even in a crowded train/subway, the risk of contracting is still fairly low.

Do what you want but recommended OP update with this (if you haven't already) @Chemist

It's just post-Pride month and a lot of gay men congregate. It isn't even necessarily sex related but a lot of quick and close association.

All the cities in the States are a ****ing MESS right now.

I'm most worried about South Florida, where Governor DeathSentence was already burying Covid death counts and refusing to order Covid vaccines for kids.

Posted

EVERYWHERE I'm looking right now in the USA is a cluster**** for vaccine availability and infection. Websites crashing, numbers surging.

NYC, L.A., Miami, Chicago, D.C. San Fran, Boston, Philly. Mess, mess, mess.

The Feds should've been more prepared and grown the stockpile.

More than Jynneos should be able to make this (just like Covid, patent problems). These monopolies (once a worse strain develops) will kill.
