Inspired by the great R&B threads that @GoodGuyGoneGhetto has created, I wanted to piggy back on the recent thread @Planet Marsdid with 70's soul male vocal groups and serve the females

Honey Cone - Want Ads

The Supremes - Stoned Love

The Three Degrees - When Will I See You Again

Labelle - Lady Marmalade

The Emotions - Best Of My Love

Sister Sledge - We Are Family

Love Unlimited - Under The Influence

Feel free to post your faves from da era

Emotions, but Thinking of You by SS is the best song by any of these groups

Posted

Oh wow, several points were made, even though I typically associate girl groups with the 60's (The Supremes, Martha & The Vandellas, Shirelles, Ronnettes, Velvelettes etc.) The 70's was pretty good in that department too.

Went with the Emotions because that song is perfect from start to finish. Maurice White was a genius and their collaborations with EW&F were always top tier.

Best Of My Love

It was close, but I have to support 70s Supremes with "Stoned Love". Jean, Mary, and Cindy were such a great lineup.

The 60s girl groups will be interesting to vs.

The Emotions & Supremes def my favorites here!

Best Of My Love by far.

Tamia sampled it in her debut album and it’s such a good song. It should’ve been a hit single. Mariah would’ve taken it in two seconds if it were offered to her. It’s right in her lane :dies:

Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! Don’t do this to me! I think LaBelle’s “Lady Marmalade” has become extremely underrated in the 21st century for obvious reasons. It’s still my favorite version. Butttt… I’m looking at The Emotions and Sister Sledge and I can’t resist the “Saturday afternoon barbecue at Nana’s” anthems. I still remember what her huge speakers looked like.

Going with Sister Sledge. “We Are Family” is just too classic, and I really enjoy the parent album it comes from.

Poor Want Ads not gettin any votes and its technically da second biggest song behind BOML

I can't believe Want Ads got paid dust in the poll :biblio:

But y'all know I'm Team Supreme. Plus that intro has to be one of the greatest of all time :jonny5:

Sister Sledge - He's The Greatest Dancer

The Emotions - Boogie Wonderland/Best of My Love/

Babyyyy I’m torn. For me it’s between:

Want Ads

Best of My Love

We Are Family

All bops and my anthems, but ultimately my vote has to go to BOML. :jamming:
