Roman Holiday Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 I know people don't wanna hear it, but movies need to stop being 3 hours long. It almost never works and you end up with a schlog of a second act. And I think it's fair for people to not wanna sit in a theater for almost 4 hours with no intermissions.

Mainly it reduces the number of shows, theaters can run per day, thereby cutting the earnings.
Monster Megamind Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Let's hope this has legs, otherwise part 4 is not coming
X~MoviePoP Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 I could see them putting 4 and 5 on disney+ as a series

You can find movies 3 hours long and goes like the blink of an eye, and you can find movies 1 hour 45 minuted long that seems to last an eternity. Is not just about how long, is about rhythm, quality and script
Da Vinci Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Yeah James C made some points about how people would rather binge watch literally 10+ hours of a Netflix show in ONE sitting than watch a 3 hour film in a theater
dussymob Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 The 3 hours for a movie like Avatar won’t bother me but that nearly 3 hour BP2 movie was too much.
fridayteenage Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 yes, kick furious 7 out of the top 10 all time
znake Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 I love it so much !!! The graphics are insane

Not if they gave numbers specifically for Czech Republic. Let me search through the Box office forums for the number. Edit: So I haven't been able to find numbers yet (they will pop up eventually) but Avatar 2 is only behind Endgame for all-time openings. 4th biggest in admissions (tickets are so pricey!) For some comparison, I do have box office/admissions from Romania, where it broke the all-time record. $1.36M debut, over 200k tickets sold. i love that they’re reporting on us, literally never seen czechia mentioned in these kinda box office scores. the film has many, many plot holes, but overall i really enjoyed it so watching its trajectory is really fun. hopefully 3 is better.

Lots of that weekend business gets pushed to Boxing Day Monday, which will be the biggest day for all films not only this weekend, but for this holiday season. Something like 24/17/27 for the weekend, then a $32M+ Monday. Yeah but still, Rogue One had a 65M second weekend and Saturday was also Xmas eve. Any number close to that and we’re looking at a very similar run, max 500-520M. Which is great, but not outstanding (+600M) or historical (+700M).

We've already been using Rogue One as the comp. I also don't think anyone is expecting $700M after it opened to $135M. It has jumped ahead of Rogue One in dailies by Tuesday already, despite opening $20M below over the weekend. If it is already matching Rogue One's 2nd weekend then that's solid. If it holds up over We'd/Thurs then it should do better than Rogue One's $65M. But now we have this new problem; this upcoming generational snowstorm that is supposed to blanket the US. I am worried it's going to affect this weekend hard.
enchanted0 Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 The way I had to google Rogue One because I had absolutely no idea what that is
BNF91 Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Increases on a Wednesday incredible Up 6% in UK (£2.2M) Up 5% in Italy (£1.02M) Up 34% in Argentina (87k admits up from 59k) Up 95% in Spain!!! (£1.55M) France with another 400k admits on Wednesday that's another $4-5M day.
BNF91 Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Early Wednesday #- $51M global ($14M Dom/$37M OS) * numbers might change $607M global after 6 days
Donquizote Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Top Gun Maverick also did 14M on first Wednesday

Yeah yeah well it depends on people’s expectations. I wanted it to have an amazing run and it just seems like it’s not gonna do that domestically. At least I expected to go into the $600Ms (The Last Jedi, Jurassic World territory). It does seem like it’s doing better internationally. Not sure what the threshold is for Avatar 4&5 to be greenlit, but I’m assuming 1.5B is the minimum, particularly if the go with the “diminishing returns” assumption for each sequel.

BNF91 Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 (edited) This garbage website smh. Gigantic winter storm is gonna affect numbers this weekend domestically. So irritating. On one of the biggest moviegoing weekends of the year. Ugh. Already affecting Thursday numbers. Avatar still had a 1% jump to $14.5M. Hard to predict what the weekend will look like. But I already know people are gonna run with the numbers screaming flop when the winter storm is clearly affecting business. Internationally, just killing it. Wednesday actual increased to $39.5M and another $37M this Thursday. France is a juggernaut; $21M opening, already up to $41M after Mon-Thurs $100M+ potential there. $52M global day. $661M worldwide after 7 days. Will clear Thor 4 and The Batman's total worldwide box office after just 9 days of release. Edited December 23, 2022 by BNF91
