It was decided based on feedback from the spring 2023 town hall to transition this thread back to being election specific. With the Civics section being able to house specific threads on many issues, we think having a generalized politics thread is not completely necessarily anymore. 
 

With that said, please continue to be respectful and remember that you do not always need to respond to everyone.

Tell me. If any students die because Joe Biden greenlit violent crackdowns on protests with his "antisemitism" statement, would you still be expecting people to "suck it up" for the most violent authoritarian fascist to hold the presidency since Nixon?

I haven't seen anywhere where Biden called for what's happening to them 🤷 
 

all he did was denounce antisemitism.  Which there are lots  of being thrown around at these protests. That's just a fact. 
 

I do however hope no one dies or gets hurt anymore because that would be and is awful for all students involved. 
 

hopefully level heads prevail.

Anyone who dies would be on the shoulders of Biden for being the one to encourage this genocide and demonize those calling for it to be stopped.

Serious thought and question. It looks like Trump will win the election and his immunity trial, his lawyers said that murdering political rivals would be ok under his immunity. 
 

Do you think he'll allow the Christians to round us (gays) up and kill us? 
 

If so, what is your plan? Have you been thinking about and prepping for a holocaust scenario?

What he did was focus on the antisemitic incidents that were happening off-campus at Columbia and imply that the entire protest was all about that. This put pressure on university admins to answer with crackdowns to completely shutter any and all protests because donors took the cue from the president to begin threats to withhold donations unless any and all criticism of Israel was silenced by any means necessary. Columbia was on the verge of requesting Kathy Hochul deploy the National Guard, but they were talked down from that drastic measure at the very last second.

 

Biden is Netanyahu's puppet. Notice he hasn't said a word about the brutalization of protesters who've been beaten, pinned to the ground, and tased? He supports this. He absolutely wants all criticism of Israel to be brought to heel, and frankly it's apparent that many of his supporters do too because they view it as a political liability.

Why are you focused on a hypothetical genocide when Biden has been enabling a literal genocide for months?

Him calling for murdering his political rivals wouldn't be "okay." Just not prosecutable under the law since presidents can't be legally scrutinized by the DOJ that operates underneath him AND since Congress will always be too partisan to ever impeach and convict any president, no matter what level of wrongdoing they commit.

 

Not to mention, it would be an unlawful order to carry out, so the military personnel could still be expected to refuse to do it even if Trump wouldn't be prosecuted for giving the order.

 

Seeking asylum wouldn't be a viable path because no country would want to take us. Their expectation would be that we would have to ride out the next four years and take efforts to course-correct with the next presidential election. Given the Democrats' unwillingness to ever put up even a decent candidate, however… that might not be viable either.

 

Theres also the fact that all the countries that are allied to us are expected to take hard-right swings in the near future as well, with politicians who'd be ideological allies of Trump. Canada especially after years of fatigue under Trudeau.
