2024 US Election Megathread 🇺🇸🏛️

Message added by Lee!!,

It was decided based on feedback from the spring 2023 town hall to transition this thread back to being election specific. With the Civics section being able to house specific threads on many issues, we think having a generalized politics thread is not completely necessarily anymore.

With that said, please continue to be respectful and remember that you do not always need to respond to everyone.

Just judging from what I've read they will invalidate the charges. At least the gop leaning judges will.

Im voting for Biden because he wont try to take away my health insurance, supports LGBT+ rights and isn't against a woman's right to choose. It's your right to not vote for him, but don't act like it's a difficult choice.

This is stupid logic. States make their own laws. These people need to vote for democrats and MAYBE this wouldn't happen in their states. Also the supreme court (which sided with these states about protesting) is conservative leaning which wouldn't have happened if Hillary won in 2016. Alot of the problems are because of Trump and republicans . Not all but most. Saying otherwise is just being naive

What's the question?

They were dumped from Medicaid because the pandemic protections expired(which Republican's weren't going to renew anyway). For what it's worth, most are probably eligible for an Obamacare plan depending on their state. Although many Republican led states still don't have expanded Medicaid.

I have good, free health insurance through the Obamacare marketplace. Trump continues to campaign on getting rid of Obamacare. A reminder, the only reason it failed during his presidency was because John McCain voted no in the senate. He's since passed away and Republicans continue to get more extreme.

Trump will try again if he wins, and if Republicans take the senate, they'll succeed.

More than that, people forget "we live in a society".

For example, New Yorkers were generally okay with Covid restrictions when the situation was spiraling out of control. Then, some grew resentful when the social protocols were prolonged beyond the vaccine distribution period, so Dems were punished in the 2022 election.

Meanwhile, there's a contingent of hypochondriac New Yorkers who still, to this day, believe the pandemic is ongoing and resent Biden for terminating the pandemic emergency designation.

That's the cost of compromise. But I get the sense more and more everyday that leftists hate democracy.

Because Democrats chose to end such provisions via H.R. 2617. Meaning Democrats chose to work with Republicans to throw people off Medicaid.

Maybe you have a certain privilege that prevents you from being negatively impacted by such policy, but when you suggest such like the bold:

Biden wont try to take away my health insurance...don't act like it's a difficult choice.

..you're just factually wrong. Maybe he didn't take away *your* private insurance, but not everyone can afford private health insurance.

Again, millions upon millions of Americans lost their extended Medicaid coverage due to administrative issues like lost or failed-to-file paperwork, not because they suddenly made too much for be eligible for Medicaid. Democrats failed those millions upon millions of disproportionately poor people.

It's perfectly valid for you to vote for Biden because you've benefitted from Biden's policies. That's the whole point. Voting is transactional.

But by the same token, to be HELPED by Biden's policies and not HARMED by Biden's policies is evidence of PRIVILEGE, not the inverse.

Because Biden's policies fall short, because they are regressive, because they cater to right-wing and capitalist interests, they short-change the most poor.

Would you take time out of your day to go to the polls after the two main political parties voted to kick you off Medicaid?

"It doesn't matter if Democrats kicked people off Medicaid, Republicans would do the same" is not a meaningful answer to someone who doesn't have to vote.
