not a surefire smash imo but it suits better for a comeback song for sure.

well that snippet neither sounds like fair nor wild side but as an r&b lover it shouldnt that be hard to distinguish which sound/genre will work best for her commercially, since it's her COMEBACK. call me hater but id prefer at least candy paint-level-of-bangerness for the lead single to reach the globe with ease and do some cute numbers. We should aim higher than some lil urban radio hits for the lead single which eventually gonna launch into her anticipated debut album

My ears are working fine. Its simply not the same sonically as Fair. It doesn't sound like Fair. Its not a ballad like Fair was. Its not giving Fair.

Plus, that's literally a freaking snippet. We don't even know what part of the song that is.

Babe no is saying the sound is the same. We are talking about the tempo. Sonically it’s the same genre as Wild Side, but tempo-wise definitely the same as Fair if you pay attention to that.

Go run that snippet in a BPM finder and tell me what you discover. Its definitely a mid-tempo like WS. Also, how a song sonically sounds means a lot more than its BPM. Especially in this argument about whether or not it sounds like Fair which you quite literally admitted to it not sounding like Fair.

I actually really dig this new snippet and I understand why they aren’t going with Candy Paint now, but I hope they release it as a single later on

I just love how her being back brings us all together to argue and irritate each other again :suburban:

This song sounds nothing like Fair, this song she teased sounds like Wild Side little sister. The song allegedly has a male rapper feature on it so it probably changes in tempo throughout the song. The whole thing is giving me Wild Side, just like when she teased it, people were complaining about it sounding too slow and two years later Wild Side still slaps so I'm not worried at all for the single. And whether it pleases the GP or not we should celebrate Normani releasing something she believes in and is happy with

The single HAS to please the GP in order for her to have a successful era so def have to worry about it pleasing the GP

I’m…concerned lol. The tempo for this new song is DEFINITELY closer to Wild Side than Fair. If you just consider the drum pattern alone, Fair has a higher BPM than WS. The drum patterns for Wild Side and the snippet are super similar.

Way more lol. I recall y'all being scared for Wild Side too. Also you all may want to think of this track as the warm up.

This is the only reason I’m not TOO concerned - the original Wild Side snippet and the memes that it generated did not match the actual song or video whatsoever. And frankly Fair also didn’t match the vibe of its little TikTok video.

This new snippet is doing absolutely nothing for me but she’s only released quality (even Fair) so I’m waiting to be gagged.

We don't need an appetizer. We need the main course. :rip:

Not the girls fighting already while this literally me listening to that snippet on repeat during my 20 minute showers

This snippet is 100% a lot closer to WS than to Fair. The latter is almost a generic ballad with an ugly hook. This new snippet is sexy, raunchy and gets you moving

Wait for the whole thing ffs. This was the same reaction the Wild Side snippet got and it turned out to be a fantastic record.

And ended up being a radio hit at that.

Given the radio support that R&B stations gave Wild Side, I guess it makes sense to go with something similar sonically as the lead to replicate that success. As a gay man who loves an uptempo bop however...

Weekly reminder that Normani is trying to establish her artistry so she can have longevity and not end up a flop.

She needs multiple signature “slower” non-performance songs.

She gotta go more SZA than Tate McRae for a bit on this rollout (not the song genres, cause I still think she could do more of a crossover sound similar to Doja Cat Streets or Need to Know).

The minute Normani pushes a song like Candy Paint, it’s going to overshadow so much similar to how Motivation did.

I hope she announces tomorrow :duca:. Next week is going to be busy

Dang some of y’all are annoying.

The girl finally got her album announcement and her team together & that’s still not enough for y’all. If you are a pop girlie, Normani isn’t gonna be the artist for you lmao. She’s always done alternative/contemporary R&B with a dash of pop. She has the voice for R&B and there’s longevity in R&B.

What separates her from other artists is that she can actually perform & move like a pop star, while the mic is on. The other R&B girlies (her age) can’t really do that. Hell the top pop girlies can’t even do that.

she’ll be fine.

I think now I’m just wondering how long they’re gonna tease this single for ?

If that end of April date is correct I feel like they should come in hot now

I like the song, and I like both pop and r&b. But I feel like some of the complaints are valid, as we have been promised an uptempo single since late 2021. On the other side, we know that there is going to be uptempos on the album (and probably as singles eventually), she is literally an incredible entertainer who loves to do full out 8-counts on stage.
