I just mentioned on the Solar Power tour thread, that 'The Man With The Axe' is the only Solar Power song from the standard album release, that she hasn't performed on tour so far. However 'Leader of a New Regime' has been performed live more than 15 times.

https://www.setlist.fm/stats/lorde-6bdc4632.html

There is also the bonus track 'Helen Of Troy' which she hasn't performed either, although I think she might do that one soon.

Sure did mention in an interview that the song was very personal for her to write and she feels awkward thinking about other people hearing it. I do wish she’d perform it though :emofish:

Loved seeing her live last week. I preferred the vibes from the Melodrama tour, but she was still great. I like how she took care of her setlist to really respect her entire discography. I'm looking forward to seeing her again next month at Primavera. She's just so precious and genuine. :clap3:

I just read that, she has a cat called Dudley - haven't seen anything on social media from Sonja mentioning Dudley.

Also, maybe she still hasn't got her drivers license, but might be close.

But the real shock was the one about Royals:

Quote

But her cup overfloweth; Royals was the eighth song she wrote. “I couldn’t have known when I released the song that it would do that. My brain had to stretch to accommodate the size of my world and the success. I didn’t have language for it.”

She started working with Joel Little towards the end of 2011 and from my understanding didn't record anything that could be called a song, until "Million Dollar Bills" in early 2012 and "Royals" came maybe mid 2012 at the latest, when they also wrote and recorded "Bravado" and "Biting Down" in the same week, but now we learn "Royals" was her eighth song.

The Love Club EP has 5 tracks, "Bravado", "Royals", "Million Dollar Bills", "The Love Club" and "Biting Down"

Even if all of those tracks on the EP were from the eight first songs, there are at least three mystery tracks that either:

- were updated and ended up on Pure Heroine at least a year later, or

- never released.

But if even 1-2 of those Love Club EP tracks came after "Royals", then that means 4-5 tracks from early 2012 that might not have been released. Of course we know about "Hospital Song/Lost Boys" and "Good Fights" so maybe those two could have been from early 2012.

From some interviews, it seems that by the time she came to finish Pure Heroine she was ready to disown everything from The Love Club EP.

Royals was written in a week during the school holidays, along with two other songs on her EP. She says she is now is sick of listening to songs from the Love Club EP, though. "When you're my age, a year ago, you're a completely different person to the one you are now ... so I listen to the EP and think it's so terrible and I'm so embarrassed about everything that's on here. It's that part of me that makes me want to move on and make better stuff."

That interview was from May 2013, so maybe none of those 3+ songs made it into Pure Heroine.

It's been a long time but iirc, Lost Boys, No Better and Loom (which we know nothing of) were all registered together pre-Pure Heroine (or very early in that era, idr for sure)

So I'm sure those 3 songs fit in there somewhere. Good Fights was performed with tracks that ended up on the album so I guess it would make sense if that song came a little later.. although I can't remember if it was also registered alongside the aforementioned songs.

I find this stuff so interesting tho :celestial5:

Direct Sonos SOLARSYSTYM mixcloud link here:

https://www.mixcloud.com/sonos/solarsystym-curated-by-lorde-exclusively-on-sonos-radio/

J Dilla, Irma Thomas, Cocteau Twins, Amanaz, Radiohead and more.

If you play the stream on the actual mixcloud page link above, instead of the embedded player, it tells you who performed each song, e.g. "Time Is on My Side" appears to be from the early 1964 Irma Thomas version. Hopefully if you invest in an expensive Sonos audio system you get the same information, because it would kinda bug me not knowing.

This can also be streamed on the Mixcloud app for Android and iOS devices and this also shows the song and artist info.

@nooniebao I ended up threading the Sonos radio channel news here:

https://atrl.net/forums/topic/399949-sonos-solarsystym-by-lorde-channel-includes-kate-bush-joni-mitchell-and-lady-gaga/

There are quite a lot of other artists on the Sonos channel on Mixcloud, so might spend few hours listening in the weekend.

There is going to be a follow up to her Sono radio channel content, where she does a special Radio Hour show, including conversation with Elia Einhorn. I'm not seeing anything from @eliaeinhorn on twitter, but it's mentioned on americansongwriter.com (link below).

Worth checking on May 18, on the Sonos channel on the Mixcloud site or Mixcloud mobile app, as it might be available there too.

Update on the new Sonos Radio Hour with Lorde, this is now available on the Mixcloud site or Mixcloud mobile app.

Here is the direct link to the Sonos Radio Hour on the Mixcloud site, released earlier today, which includes tracks from artists such as Kesha, Talking Heads, Radiohead, Kanye, Jai Paul, James Blake and Kate Bush.*

For today’s show, Host Elia Einhorn caught up with Ella to go deep on the music that’s inspired her throughout her life; the importance of stargazing; the special Sonos giveaway she cooked up for her fans; and the vision that informed the creation of SOLARSYSTYM.

* not the same Radiohead, James Blake and Kate Bush songs as her earlier SOLARSYSTYM (preview) above.

Thanks @Billionaire for updating. I'm not sure what to make of the Elle interview, but I get the impression that she wants to come back with a new album in less than four years this time, but fans always have such unrealistic ideas on how long writing and production take, especially the vinyl pressing phase, which was 6+ months for many artists during the pandemic and might not have come down much since.

She once talked about making 10 albums in her life and I think she realises that she needs to release more often, unless she wants to be releasing her 10th album in her 50s. I imagine at 25, she might at want to release album #4 and #5 before she turns 30, which doesn't give her a lot of time.

In other news, Melodrama has passed 2B spotify streams - thread here:

When do we think she will bless us with another MV? I hope the last one is Oceanic Feeling

Also, Solar Power is truly my favourite album of all time and I regret not getting tix for the tour :!ohno:

In theory we should get one more music video, but I'm not sure when.

June solstice coming perhaps.

Oceanic Feeling would certainly fit into the beach/island/nature theme with all the other videos.

What do we make of the interaction on Instagram between Lorde and Matty Healy.
https://www.stereogum.com/2188506/posters-tease-the-1975s-return-for-next-month/news/

She posted a comment “My txts aren’t going thru”, maybe a song lyric or perhaps it doesn't mean anything? She did cover "Somebody else" on tour a few years ago, so there could be a possible collaboration coming or perhaps a guest appearance on her Glastonbury performance or something like that.

I don't think it means anything :gaycat6: The 1975 historically have announced things on June 1 and they were late on announcing their new era that day. So she was probably telling Matty to hurry up and post something.

Absolutely amazing performance at Primavera. Much like her tour setlist, but accelerated for the sake of time, and I much preferred that quick flow of songs, one after another. She’s so spectacular. :clap3:

@badvibez perhaps I'm just hoping we get something new before the next era in 2023 2024 2025 maybe slightly earlier than 2025

Her outfit for Primavera Sound show also seemed less Solar Power/back to nature girl and more new pop era girl, although I'm probably reading too much into her choice of outfit for one show.

The black outfit kinda looks beachy to me :michael: it looks like a wetsuit and w/ the wet hair she kinda looks like a surfer.

I'll be waiting patiently for 2025. The Lorde Schedule™ is set in stone now. When these girls say "I don't wanna take so long this time!" they usually do anyway. I've seen it.

Did anyone thread this? I've been kinda busy with work stuff, but 5 years of Melodrama might have been worth a mention:

The Kiwi artist's groundbreaking second album cemented her status as a flag-bearer for a wave of young, emotive pop songwriters.

“Lorde’s ability to get to the ‘nerve’ of a song inspired me to really go there and find the heart in my songwriting,” BRIT Award-winning singer-songwriter Holly Humberstone tells NME. She’s not alone: a bevvy of newcomers writing emotionally-charged pop have grown up with ‘Melodrama’ as a key, life-changing reference for their own music. They tell us, in their own words, what the album means to them.
