There’s lots of hits with that word in the title like Fleetwood Mac, Crystal Waters, Shakira. I know it’s Gaga who would generate more controversy, but the song is such a bop people wouldn’t care that much

This would be awesome. I would love a vinyl box set like she did with BTW and all the different images. There were so many good photos from this shoot. And it would be like the light to BTW's dark.

Applause was the perfect lead single for ARTPOP, and it was a highly creative move to make the first song released the final track on the album (alluding to the applause of a performance). I'm somewhat an ARTPOP detractor, but that was one of my favorite career moves by her ever.

 

Aura would have been a polarizing bomb with racist accusations of burqa appropriation. Gypsy felt more suited as a second or third single to sustain the era, not launch the era. Venus and G.U.Y. are maybe the only other songs that would have smashed and served Applause's longevity.

Definitely top 3 on ARTPOP, probably my personal favourite on the album, too bad they scrapped some of the harmonies in the demo version (as usual)
