I think you'll like the rest of the tracks better than all of these, minus maybe that's right

Why? Genuinely curious :heart2:

To me it’s giving me Go high teas- I haven’t heard it though… she keeps calling it sassy?

Tbh, it would make more sense. Upbeat song and power ballad

i had a dream is one of the worst songs she‘s ever recorded

but this one is really good!

wish the chorus wouldn’t just repeat ‚i hate love‘ but her voice sounds amazing in it and the way the words flow is quite catchy

EXCUSE, just because the song calls some of us out, doesn't make it any less of a bop. :gaycat2:

I just skimmed through the IHL thread and I've gotta say I'm amazed by how small-minded some people are when it comes to people releasing new music.  If you want someone to release more of the same of what they've already done, that's your thing, but it's pretty boring to be expecting 41 year old KC to be repeating songs she released 20 years ago.  Every single thing she's released so far this era (minus me, I'd say) has ventured into new territory for her sonically AND has been self or co-self penned.  This is KC the ARTIST.  I know not everyone vibes with every song but I'm kinda grossed out by people hoping for rehashes of what we have already gotten in the past.

Also, by the sounds of it, the real hard-hitters on this album are Rock Hudson, Lighthouse, and Down To You, which we HAVEN'T EVEN HEARD YET.

To quote Alexa from FJ2K - can we all just unclench a bit?

RFC should be the last one, right? I don’t think we’re getting another one on the 16th, which I don’t mind.

in the words of the great philosopher Plato, you can't win - wash rinse and repeat

if she made SUBG 5.0 everyone would drag her for not evolving and rehashing, but when she tries new things people say why cant she make another SUBG bop.

this is why other peoples opinions shouldn't matter to you, there's always gonna be someone complaining!

personally I think Mine is one of the most interesting songs she's made in a while and it's gonna have great longevity and replay value, songs like Favorite Kind of High which follow the 'hit formula' tend to burn out quicker. Chemistry has a lot of interesting moments, it's not gonna be for everyone

Some interesting Spotify updates from today's update:

IHL partial day: 5,420

From these numbers we should be looking around a 200k opening day tomorrow, although based on playlisting, I imagine it might be higher as Aus/NZ didn't have it high on the NMF but UK did (after partial day cut off), so maybe we'll be looking at 300k opening tomorrow

FKOH - the Guetta Remix playlistingspots has really done wonders...

album version: 2,388,574 (+151,022)

DG reimx: 603,766 (+141,118) [more than double the day before]

total: 2,992,340 (+292,140)

mine album version: 7,321,803 (+88,354)

mine remix: 630,708 (+24,803)

total: 7,952,5111 (+113,157)

me: 3,342,991 (+33,422)

total chemistry era (incl. remixes): 14,293,262 (+444,139)

Oh just saying that because it has a similar sound to 'I hate love' if I remember correctly, but more with an island vibe (I think haha)

I enjoyed 'me' mostly because it highlights her gospel roots and I don't like gospel to begin with.

I mostly have tuned those kind of people out because nostalgia is sort of a common theme these days and pop-rock Kelly came at a price. Not really sure if I see her doing it even post-divorce and I like this eclectic Kelly more than pop-rock Kely.

Alexa play "You Can't Win".

Kelly's always going to draw critics of every thing she does. The problem isn't so much her but people wanting nostalgic music.

I'm probably the only one who's gonna say it but I actually enjoyed everything she's done so far over MoL and that album is a 10/10.  I don't enjoy 'i hate love' as much as the others (my favorite kind of high is something I'll never stop listening when I need to cheer up; mine is not only lyrically great but I prefer it sonically over IHL).  Side note: I actually had to google the "Steve Martin" is the same one I watched growing up... The man is talented.

Sonically, i hate love & that’s right are the odd-balls of the album. Likely why they’re at the end of the tracklist.

One thing I have noticed is while one or two of the singles are sonically divisive, they're lyrically some of her best work.

It's been so freaking long since she wrote majority of the songs, I'm so spoiled tbh. :jonny2:

Haha she answered 2 of my questions on the fb chat, but someone asked her about lighthouse before the album and she alluded that it would be out before then :)

Kelly hinted that lighthouse will be released early too... and that there will be a deluxe album of chemistry! :duca:

I hope there’s a deluxe. There’s a song called roses that deserves to get released.

The way everyone was asking her about unreleased songs and she was like "how do y'all know these" lmao please

She didn't remember 'Call Me' though, sad - it's one of her best!

I love that she said Maybe was her favorite song that she's written.  Taste.
