I might be reading too much into Church Girl but I feel like it’s more than just a bounce twerk anthem, and actually is Bey breaking free from religious trauma so to speak. Normally the church demonizes and criticizes you for showing your promiscuity and sensuality, but she’s basically saying that you can be a sex god that gets lit every Saturday, but still come to church on Sunday. The only person that can judge me is ME (and god)

No offense girl but that's like the surface level point of the song :deadbanana4:

I just realized that the reason Virgo's Groove is my favourite song is because it's basically a Beyoncé x Tame Impala song. I hope she actually manages to work with Kevin sooner rather than later.

Beyoncé has been OUT of the church. she wont tackle that disease in the black community directly but since she has explored every other traumas faced in the black community, i suspect this is one she decided to do in a subtle manner. Many have been calling her a demon for years simply because they low key wanted her to be explicit with her religion which she never did. She refuses to be pressured by that community who have been low key abusing her name for years. This is her response to them and many are trying to ignore the song, they know why she did that song too.

The average music enjoyer is not gonna boycott a beyonce song the minute they discover that it has 20+ writers, it’s just some ridiculous excuse OBH use to have a reason to drag her since they can’t drag her for anything else. The obsession with songwriting is so tired and especially since we have MULTIPLE producers attesting that Bey is very involved in the creation of these songs and we don’t even need to get into the hard work it takes to layer all her vocals and harmonies.

They want to paint this narrative that Bey is some sort of Milli Vanilli because they simply cannot fathom her being multi-talented. If songwriting on your own is so important you’d think Diane would’ve won an oscar by now and yet…:coffee2:  I’m glad Dream cleared that bitter hag, she wants to throw stones and then play victim give me a break.

I mean, the evidence is in some of these songs being produced by producers that make terrible songs for other artists but their Beyonce records are magical

I can't stand Diane.. she's always been disingenuous to me and I never got her appeal as an songwriter. She can learn a thing or two about artistry in this age...

All true. Plus half of these girls in the industry cant serve such harmonies without HEAVY auto-tunes. The way Beyoncé showed with that album that she CAN sing all these stupid pop songs on the radio if she wanted to, and just decided to experiment more with music instead. She could do what they do in her sleep but THEY cannot do what she does. That's what they cant accept so instead they will attack her on what they THINK is her weakness like songwriting. As if Beyoncé didn't write a song like Survivor from Destiny's child before she hit 25.

To share some added context to "Church Girl" regarding the Clark Sisters' sample.

Their mother, Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, was the longest-serving International Minister of Music for the Church of God in Christ (COGIC). "Her arrangements replaced the unison or two-part textures of earlier gospel music with three-part settings of the music for soprano, alto, and tenor voice ranges—a technique that remains common in gospel choir music til' this day. (Destiny's Child is also known for their three-part harmony / Kelly (Soprano), Beyonce (Alto), Michelle (Tenor))

When her daughters were asked to perform at the Grammy's (Which ended up being the first gospel performance at the Grammy's) - their mother joined them (as she managed/vocal produced the group). (Watch below)

After the performance - the church ridiculed her for "jumping up and down and dancing on stage" with her daughters. In order to keep her position as International Minister of Music - they told her she could not perform with her daughters again. Therefore, she did not perform with them to keep her position. She was a victim of being a 'Church Girl.' What should have been a moment of celebration & joy - became a moment of judgment and hate.

Even the Gospel sample was intentional. So many Church Women will relate to the freedom the song provides - and it will be therapeutic for many women who are constantly judged - even though that judgment is not typically placed on their male Church counterparts.

I wonder what they thought of the sample since I’m sure they had to hear it in order to clear it-:rip:

Best lyrics and part of VG:

So use me (Use me)
Pursue me (Pursue me)
Kiss me where you bruise me (Bruise me)
Ooh-wee, ooh-wee
Taste me (Taste me), that fleshy part
I scream so loud, I curse the stars

When sings, "I curse the stars" it gave me chills. Yesss my witch queen :jonny5:

Do y’all think the VMAs will be our first glimpse of any type of real visual?  Like that’s in 4 weeks and seems like such a great opportunity to capitalize and give the album more legs til the next piece is unveiled. Unless of course it happens in conjunction.

I'm not sure. It's Monday of release week and she hasn't been spotted or posted anything.

I think this era may end up being even more reclusive than her previous. It may just be our new normal.

A mix of Rock and R&B is what i want from her next.  A few country songs could be thrown in to flex on those industry pressed clowns but i would love for her to tackle Rock for sure because this is the one genre some people still think belong to men  and i feel Beyoncé could change that, a modern twist to Tina Turner, i always thought that would be the direction she would go in next.

Eww keep rock. Don’t Hurr Yourself and ThTs why you’re Beautiful :dancehall2:

Keep it dance, pop and R&B. And I know this is gonna be controversial but I want her to bring American R&B back to dominance from Afrobeat and dancehall and reggaeton. R&B ballads took a beating once trap, hip hop, and other genres took over. She needs a new classic love ballad like a I Will Always Love You. Because Halo ain’t it

Yeah I am kinda nervous we will be waiting on the visuals for more than a month or 2 lol that will be excruciating but I’m trying to prepare myself for anything.

someone did point out earlier how the timeline for the Renaissance and Beyoncé hashtag icons might imply more to come in a months time if they were locked in for that long for a reason. I don’t know how long those icons usually last for normally though.
