I mean, there's a lot of things that make CC a viable AOTY winner, even a Jon Batiste credit and a Beatles cover. It just lacks Beyoncé trying to do something to win it.

But tbh, she seemed at peace with losing back in 2023 so I don't think she really cares anymore.

Remember when you lot tried to convince me she wouldn't submit CC as a Country album and told me I was mad for being adamant that she would:gayoncecat3:

Apparently she already knew she wasnt winning. Insiders told Ira III that she was planning a Cuff It live performance but wouldn't go ahead with it unless she won AOTY. Thats why they switched to the pre-recorded rap medley instead. Ira III spoke about this on the patreon of the Pop Pantheon podcast last year. And it makes sense tbh.

I believe that maybe she was planning to perform, but I think the reason not to do it might just be that she expected her injury to be healed by that time and it really wasn't. :michael:

I highly doubt she gave the ultimatum she had to win, if only for the fact it would be an asterisk on her AOTY the rest of her life if it'd leaked.  It's one thing to demand the VOTY VMA if you're going to show up and perform, it's another entirely for the most prestigious award in music.

I will be honest. I don't fully grasp Bey's psyche or logic with the Grammys and even CC to an extent.

Bey is aware that the bias and racism at the Grammys is not only obvious, blatant and prestige stripping (for the grammys) but also not just limited to her.

ST was a major snub. I understand trying once more, but after Lemonade (which was that years most acclaimed, impactful and commercially successful project nominated), how is she still playing ball with the grammys. Despite how vocal she's been about race and gender issues. What's stopping her from helping make the awards more irrelevant by not showing up or caring. I thought we cared about making our own table with seats for all. But it's alright, I see some fleeting logic in doing it for her collaborators and fighting for change etc.

Also with CC. On one hand, large parts of the album are explicitly genre bending and go across so many sounds. And the second half is a far departure from country. Bey also said the album is a Beyoncé album not a country one. Then why really submit it for country grammy? To me that narrative kinda downplays CC's true potential and brilliance. The album is an adventure into how country could've evolved into different sounds if it's black voices had recognition and space.

But at the same time it's conceptually a rebel against the idea of genres and how they can be limiting. It feels a little inconsistent to me. But again, this is just thoughts and maybe there is no better genre category it can fit within anyway.

Ugh. Such a brilliant album.

Beyonce and this AOTY Grammy is pure hilarious at this point. Ngl, if CC does wind up winning AOTY I'll be upset because that title should've went to RENAISSANCE.

I don't have any hope for her but I respect the fact that they kept spitting in her face and she keeps showing up.

BIK is definitely her best visual project to date but the editing in My Power is nothing short of horrible and embarrassing for an artist of her caliber :biblionana:

BIK will never touch ST, even though its basically an anthology of Music Videos it stomps on Lem and BIK any day of the week.

Lemonade wasn't the most commercially successful album nominated that night, 25 was.

I'm sure she and Jay know that the Grammys are too big to fail. They're still the most prestigious award in the industry and, looking at the viewership and internet discourse every year, as relevant as ever. If overnight all heavyweights and beloved newcomer's would agree to boycott the show, sure then their relevance would decline, but that's never going to happen. That's why Jay went on stage this year, basically begging for a change in the voting process.

I've long been of the stance that IF she ever wins AOTY it will be for her most random, least Beyonce-sounding project. Life, the industry, and specifically the Grammys are random/odd/unfair like that.

(I briefly suspended logic come Rennie because of how monumental the moment was, but got humbled real quick).

So, by that logic, CC actually tick-boxes all the criteria. At the same time, between the staunch naysayers, the Country industry/voters' lack of embrace, and the tough competition, it giving another snub.

Still, never say never. I don't particularly care "that" much at this point, but she keeps submitting so it's going to keep being a "thing".

Also, I am 2000% here for Bey's whole "I'm only performing if I know I'm winning" approach. She is the preeminent performer (and artist) of her time and they continue to play in her face. It's simple brand management on her part. Their snub antics are already sending the message that she supposedly pales in comparison to her peers, so why reward the broadcast with a performance?

All stanism aside, she's slightly playing herself every year going and losing in 4K. Imagine going, slaying a performance everyone is talking about, and some random act goes home with the top awards. Nope.

Bey is a brand and has to uphold a certain premium. She should only scratch their back if they scratch hers.

Again, taking my stan hat off, the Grammy's continue to cut their nose to spite their own face. Because who forgoes a surefire legendary "Beyonce performance" to uphold the old guard? Especially when the survival of award shows in general boils down to...ratings?

Harry, Billie, Taylor, and all these basic girls may be big on paper but are not the ratings magnets from a performance perspective and are not the "type" of acts to build a broadcast around in terms of the long-term viability of such shows.

In many ways, Bey's snubs don't even bother me "as" much from a stan, biased perspective. It's moreso how dumb, dizzy, and dense it is from a business and TV ratings standpoint. But then again, racism, sexism, and all the BS in between has never been rooted in logic and those entrenched in it will fight to uphold it...even when it has negative implications for them (see: dwindling ratings, dwindling relevance, and questionable expertise).

Find Your Way Back is better than every video you just listed. The 'Already' choreography and fashion > all of ST. Giselle showed her ass during Black Is King and the fact that yall don't give it credit is the reason why we are in the drought we're in now.:gaycat5:
