That said, beyond the viral praise because the album is that good, I legit think the physical situation is ironically having a positive effect on the streams, which in turn are helping run up the numbers. It's the primary way of listening at this point. I know I've personally held off buying the CD because I a) want the original cover and b) want the full tracklist.
 

Together with the album being longer (which I always knew would bode well for streams compared to Rennie), the streaming performance is well and beyond any predictions. As in, I'm not sure even those who predicted 400k would have imagined the composition of that number would skew more streaming units. All of us were most geared towards preorders of the physical to help run the numbers up. 
 

This is giving bonafide streaming artist. And I'm so here for it! If anything, I think all things considered (heightened streaming profile, physical mess up etc), has helped expedite her transition into a full fledged streaming act, which will bode well for future releases.
 

Everyone keeps saying how amazing it is for her to be doing this 27 years into her career. It is. But IMO, to see this all happening for a 40+ year old Black female artist is just…everything. In an industry that made a point of putting women out to pasture past 30/35 and a streaming led industry that is brutal to older acts in general, this really sets a new precedent of the type of success that is still possible come a certain time in one's career. It's a tough slog for sure, but Bey is proving that it's not…impossible.
