What's the point of having a thread about anything Beyoncé if it's always full of swifties? That Visuals thread is already not about Beyoncé. :rip:

They seriously ruin everything smh.

The tour would do infinitely better at the box office (just straight-up the show, no documentary shenanigans). Which is why I'm expecting that for now.

I dunno.

In one regard, a pure tour film would be a good way of squeezing more $$$ out of the soon-to-be-ended run. But I just don't see how this is much of a "sell" for anyone other than super stans, those who couldn't go to the tour in person, and markets she skipped like LATAM. Add to that the idea that it won't even have the Homecoming doc element and it just doesn't feel like an "event" nor much bang for ones buck.

For better or worse, the missing "visuals" have become a "thing". Being anchored in narrative and the cinematic literally screams theater release over a tour performance most saw in person or have re-watched over and over on YouTube since May.

Taylor is an anomaly in that she could release a short film shot on her iPhone and her stans would still ensure it hit 100mill gross just because.

IMO, Bey's visual pillars are pretty established and kind of automatically make clear which medium theyre each best suited to:

* Visual Albums: her premium, cinematic, and theatrical leaning output [Cinema]

* Concert Films / BTS Docs: more intimate, humanizing, and insightful. [Home Viewing]

I'm kinda with you in terms of being nervous about gross. Bey's numbers haven't been on front-street for a while. And the last time they were, with Lemonade's TV broadcast, they weren't anything to scream about. Since then, she's been protected by the fact streamers don't publish numbers (Homecoming, BIK).

Like you said, they'll have to go IN with the promo. Even then, assuming there's no topline partner (e.g. a studio like Lionsgate) and it really just a venue deal with AMC, then it really will boil down to how much tangible hype she can generate. Which is hard to assess. There's an appetite for the visuals but they are so late that the ship may have passed.

Even timing-wise, it's not really ideal. Thinking of big vehicles for hype, a Super Bowl commercial would do the trick. But that's after this supposed Nov drop. There aren't any award shows or any other big shows to attach to. If there's no sponsor, TV commercials, billboards, etc will have to come out of pocket. Which is marketing spend that then has to be recouped alongside the cost of producing the visuals.

I may totally be under estimating her power, as she legit sold out a world tour off an IG post. But, I guess we'll just have to see.

You summed it up for me. We all know Beyoncé is a legend and can sell out a live show. She’s been so reclusive the last 10 years that her mainstream appeal has been tamed. Taylor is the it of it girls right now with broad appeal. Just because it works for her, it will not have the same result for Beyoncé. And honestly Halsey isn’t as popular as she thought.

Sigh, I guess I have to prepare for the inevitable drags I will give others for coming at the numbers. At least we are getting content.

Promo isn’t needed but a good first trailer will be, which scares me because the first trailer for BIK was a disaster that led to all those fake theories.
Also no time for cryptic posts. She needs to be clear in her announcement that this is going to theaters only and what it’s about.
Any opening over 10M will be a success. Dont let those miserable people convince you of the opposite.

the thought of a weird but high quality art film to accompany her best album without it being PG friendly Disney nonsense makes me salivate

The film will def be Rated R.

Spoiler

I just know Virgos Groove will be a lesbian scene and Bey finally exposes her sneaky link on screen.

The visuals will be PG13 but the language will be R rated which will make the film R Rated. I don’t think any of the music projects recently released in theaters are R rated. This will be a first, and actually makes me feel like the rumors are false. R rated are just hard to sell.

Movie is a mess, but whew, if she has visuals like this... :jonny5:

i mean worst case she can just use the censored version of the album for the film release and the explicit one for the streaming version if that’s the case

The film potentially being R-rated…and the first of its kind to be released in theaters for a weekend only event is exciting to me. And creates even more distinction from #that family friendly circus show.

This is most likely IMO.

If she was going the Rated R route, she'd be better off accepting whatever the upper limit the streamers were willing to pay for guaranteed visibility and protection from having her numbers on front street.

A Rated R theater release would be almost asking to flop.

Yes I prefer this!

Beyoncé has built her entire brand on exclusivity, why would we want her to water down the release with the edited version of Renaissance?!!

Outfit change: During the concert, she took stripped of the blazer, revealing the matching bodysuit she wore underneath, which had a plunging neckline

I love the pattern on this one.

If this is all about the visuals, they might be delaying the announcement until the SAG strike is over. Unlike Taylor’s concert film, Beyoncé likely has actual actors who can’t promote their involvement, and even if she doesn’t, she herself is in SAG and couldn’t promote without permission.

I mean if Beyoncé isn't working with any of the major studios, I don't think the strike should be a factor in any way.

I really don't see it being the visuals. If it is it would be a very limited US-only thing (which I'd dread as an EU Hive) and it would only make sense if she dropped them on streaming like right the week after.

Watch her pull something like this and have us go through hell for a month:

Netflix announced Thursday that AMC, Regal Cinemas and Cinemark will all carry the “Knives Out” sequel for an exclusive one-week run beginning Nov. 23, one month before it begins streaming on Dec. 23.

Omg it was a literal nightmare trying to plan to see KO2 and missing it cause they only showed for one to meet the Oscar requirements. I didn’t see it till June :rip:
