Yeah this year was... weird to say the least. Hope to discover new things that I like through this section since I devoted even less time for new music than I did last year :rip:

Hope so too, brethren. I spent a lot of time with older music too, meaning I didn't get to spend as much with all of my newer releases. But I think I did ok about keeping up w/ a fair number of projects.

A lot of this year's big 'alt' releases... didn't do all that much for me. Not that they were bad, but in the sense that they didn't resonate on a personal level. So we'll see where they end up. With electronic and hip hop, there was a little more that I enjoyed.

Thanks guys <3. Anyway my lists are coming but still not ready. In the meantime I think I'll recap 2019 (I never published a songs list for this year so that'll be new) and then highlight some of the older music that spoke to me in 2020 as well.

is this updated or what you had originally last year?  100 gecs deserves more!

I think our slayyyter and Magdalene positions are exactly the same

Solange talent and excellency :clap3:

100 gecs deserves less! Their dj mix from the same year is slightly more entertaining however. Besides that, 2019 had some great moments from this list. And When I Get Home is def solange's best album.

And we're live!! With my:

Top 10 songs of 2019.

-

10. Holly Herndon - "Frontier"

It's technological, but it's very emotional. The choral elements are a complementary foil to the normal artificiality of Holly's experiments. This is absolutely a mind-bending song for me.

Posted

9. City Girls - "Act Up"

Pretty much every bar dropped in this song is straight gas. I think JT, Miami and Lil Yachty's ("secret") contributions here are all quite endearing in different ways. Really nice beat that just hits a good tone for me. An obvious party-starter that we can already see influencing the new scene (on songs produced by Juicy J and Skrillex, both featuring the vocal talents of Ty Dolla $ign). Definitely one of the highest-energy big chart hits of that year.

8. Clairo - "Bags"

This has clicked with me a good bit harder than the rest of her songs have so far. But Clairo and Rostam kicked up a really tender, cute, and PRETTY mixture here. Think this does an excellent job of bridging the gap between her 'bedroom pop' stylings and something more classic-sounding.

7. Lil Uzi Vert - "Sanguine Paradise"

A big bop from Sir Uzi, who's been impressing me lately after I'd had him boxed in as the "XO tour life guy." Don't have too much to say here other than that this one is very triumphant sounding. I've started to treasure my memories of walking around the city with this in my headphones before the world shut down.
