rl231 Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 Contestants Song Adr Chris Brown - Undecided DripDrip Tove Lo - Cool Girl EriKills Emilio Rojas - Did It Again Gateau Vi Finesse - Don't Get Too Attached Golden Avril Lavigne - What the Hell kiiwii Alex Porat - Only Hanging Out Cause I’m Lonely Marvin Toby Keith - I'm Just Talkin About Tonight Chris Brown - Undecided Astro - 6.5 - Because Chris is so wishy-washy here, I’m gonna have to handle this roughly the same. I get what you were going for, but because he’s so undecided, it’s missing the defining factor that really determines whether he wants a fling or not. It’s missing that. Also, **** fist. Clue - 6.5 - I wish he wasn’t… undecided… I wish he was certain that he just wanted a fling. The elements for perfection are there, but that’s kinda a big part that’s missing. Dylan - 7.5 - This works. It’s more so that he’s unsure than insistent on things being temporary, but it gets the job done. Supaspaz - 7.5 - **** Chris Brown! Okay, now that I got that out of the way: They may not be on the same page about this relationship right now, but they could get there eventually, which undercuts the potency of this pick.. Remmy - 7 - Well the fact that he's so undecided definitely doesn't help you, but it's still a decent entry. Especially since "And she want me to wife it" proved that his partner isn't feeling the same way. I wonder if there were better choices from the other 29 (or 42 with the deluxe) tracks nobody listened to Tove Lo - Cool Girl Astro - 8.5 - I adore this song, it’s one of my favorites by her, however, the bridge makes her point of being the cool girl who wants no relationship falter since she kinda owns up to wanting love. Aside from that brief moment, this is perfect. Clue - 9.5 - Almost perfect, I wish it was made more clear that the boy wanted something more for the relationship. Dylan - 9 - Didn’t even think of this! But, it works very well. She’s pretending to be that cool girl the entire song and finally admits in the bridge that she’s not actually that girl. Supaspaz - 7 - It’s apparent that the narrator is not that invested in the relationship, but it’s not clear to me that her partner is any more committed. Maybe he’s fine with keeping it casual. Remmy - 7.5 - There's a few lyrics that make me think her partner also isn't super interested. Like at the start, she's specifying YOU, YOU. YOU and drops "never wanted a future". Aside from that, it's a good choice. Avril Lavigne - What the Hell Astro - 8 - While I do see the point you’re trying to make, some of the lyrics imply it’s a failing relationship rather than it being a small fling. However, this works pretty well for the narrative of her knowing it probably won’t last that long, but it still hits like a break-up song. Clue - 5.5 - This feels more like someone who’s trapped in a relationship and they’re tired of being the good one and playing along. Not really the narrative we were asking for. Some of the elements were there (like the guy begging her to stay), but it didn’t come together for me. Dylan - 8 - This works a lot better than I expected. There’s one lyric that’s very off putting about how the boyfriend never listened to her anyway, but besides that… I like this. She’s having fun, he’s begging her to be with him. Interesting take. Supaspaz - 8 - I want to give you credit, because I can see where you’re coming from with this selection. It maps onto the theme rather well. There’s some ambiguity to the story, however. It ultimately strikes me as a breakup anthem. Remmy - 6 - The message is there but it's not completely clear to me. Avril is obviously not committed but it seems like she already has one foot out the door, like there was barely a relationship in the first place. Her boyfriend is begging for her to stay so that definitely fits the theme, although all the other details we get from his side aren't convincing enough. Emilio Rojas - Did It Again Astro - 10 - Yup, this is it. Clue - 10 - Perfect. Dylan - 10 - Yeah, lyrically totally on point. Congrats. Supaspaz - 10 - Britney her impact! Remmy - 9.5 - These lyrics have a major STENCH to them but luckily they’re very fitting! Vi Finesse - Don’t Get Too Attached Astro - 9 - This was an interesting entry; I think some lyrics are a bit… Off, but for the most part, it’s very on theme. Clue - 9.5 - Almost perfect. Dylan - 9 - I assume you struggled this round? But the struggle was worth it. This is perfect besides the first verse being completely random. Supaspaz - 8.5 - Did you write this yourself for this challenge? I had to track the song down on SoundCloud and it sounds so cheap. Anyway, not sure what that first verse has to do with anything, but the rest of it is on point. Remmy - 9 - Wow I was the 111th listener on Soundcloud, proud to be here before this blows up ♥ The first verse doesn’t provide any information but after that, it goes great with this round. Alex Porat - Only Hanging Out Cause I’m Lonely Astro - 9.5 - This was actually really nice to listen to. Her voice is very pretty. I think this is pretty on the nose, but the “sad if this ended” line can be a bit ambiguous. But at the same time, saying goodbye can be sad whether it’s a short fling or not. Clue - 8 - She mentions that she would be sad if the relationship ended, that kinda took a chunk out of the 9.5 I was going to give this song. Dylan - 8.5- I think I’ve seen her recommended to me on Apple Music. This works really well for me. Supaspaz - 10 - Cute song! Thank you for bringing it to my attention. Remmy - 8 - Well her feelings are definitely established, but “I think you're seeing me as more than just a friend” is basically all we get from the other side (and that she’s sleeping at their place.) Still a solid entry. Toby Keith - I’m Just Talking About Tonight Astro - 9 - Aside from the fact this is an awful genre, this is a relatively solid entry. A few lines could are a bit off-putting, but it’s fine. Clue - 10 - Yup yup yup. Dylan - 8.5 - I’m not sure if he’s saying let’s take this day by day rather than everything is temporary but in the end this still works out pretty well for you. Supaspaz - 9 - I don’t think he got the girl. Remmy - 8.5 - For the most part this is a solid pick despite a few lines that have me slightly conflicted, mainly revolving around the 2nd verse. Nomadis is up next...

rl231 Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 Contestants Song Bey_Rihstan Destiny's Child - Temptation dussymob Supertramp - Goodbye Stranger Lucky#17 Willow Smith - Summerfling Staryu Jennifer Paige - Crush thecptz Taylor Swift - Blank Space Yvess Bulow - Not a Love Song Destiny’s Child - Temptation Astro - 1 - Clue - 1 - This is one of them entries that you send 8 seconds before the deadline. We’ve all been there. Dylan - 2 - If this round was songs about being in a relationship but wanting someone else, you’d win. But, it’s not. Supaspaz - 1 - This is, frankly, a bizarre choice for this round. While Beyoncé is feening for this new man, we barely get an indication that he wants her in return, let alone something more than eye-****ing across the bar. “Bug a Boo” was right there! Remmy - 1 - Hope you get the help you need! https://www.fondationalphabetisation.org/en/causes-of-illiteracy/ Supertramp - Goodbye Stranger Astro - 4.5 - Clue - 4 - It’s a song about someone leaving their flings behind. So at least there’s something about the theme in here. Dylan - 7 - He’s non committal but we don’t get much of any impression any of his lovers wanted something more with him. That lands you in the middle of the pack this round. Supaspaz - 7 - Fantastic song, but there’s only the slightest hint that any of his one-night stands might have expected something more from him. Remmy - 4.5 - There’s not that much here. We get a LOT of lyrics from the singer’s perspective, but even those could’ve been more descriptive. Willow Smith - Summerfling Astro - 6 - So… they’re both aware it’s a fling? There was an attempt, I guess. Clue - 5.5 - Exactly what supa said. Without that one line, it’s completely off base. Dylan - 6 - There’s one lyric in the first verse that is spot-on, but besides that this is Summer Nights from grease. Supaspaz - 6 - Other than the line “You tell me that I'm the one/I tell you it's just for fun,” they both seem to be on the same page that they’re just cool for the summer. Remmy - 5 - I had higher expectations after seeing the title but aside from some of the chorus and a few undertones in the verses, it’s not the best entry. There’s even a few lines that make it sound like she’s interested in this situation lasting longer than just the Summer. Jennifer Paige - Crush Astro - 10 - Somewhere, in the background, you can faintly hear Element breaking glass and throwing chairs because he wanted to send this in VL and isn’t judging this round. Clue - 10 - Yup. Exactly what was asked for. Dylan - 10 - Spot-on though I’ve never been able to get into this song?! Mandy Moore’s Crush outsold. Supaspaz - 10 - That was a classic! That was a classic! Remmy - 10 - And that’s that! (Also I totally forgot that Mandy’s version isn’t the original) Taylor Swift - Blank Space Astro - 2 - This is pure satire and absolutely no indication if the man even wants anything. She’s listing off the things the media says she does and is just running with the joke. That’s it. Clue - 2 - I get why you picked this because she’s talking about how the media portrays her moving from relationship to relationship quickly, but it’s off base for what we asked for. Dylan - 5 - It’s a reach for sure though it very very minimally works. She’s not necessarily against commitment, it just never works out for her. Supaspaz - 5 - It’s a brilliant satire of her tabloid persona as a serial dater...which means there’s no real exploration of this week’s theme happening here. Remmy - 3 - Even if I completely ignored what the main message of this song is, there’s not enough proof that her partner wants this to last. You’ve got a weak entry baAaAby *pen click* and it gets a 3. Bulow - Not a Love Song Astro - 10 - Ah, I love Bulow. She’s so honest. Yes, this is great. Clue - 10 - Absolutely. Dylan - 9.5 - Harsh but totally on point! Supaspaz - 10 - It is a great pick for this week, though. Remmy - 10 - The first few lyrics ALONE explain everything and luckily it keeps that consistency all throughout. Archon next...

rl231 Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 Contestants Song Buddy! Ed Sheeran - Don't kipperskipper Britney Spears - Oops!...I Did It Again Not Like the Movies Demi Lovato - Something That We're Not prézli No submission Tom Vercetti The Weeknd - The Birds Part 1 Touch It Verse Simmonds - Situationships Ed Sheeran - Don’t Astro - 3 - No. This song is literally about Ed catching feelings for Ellie Goulding because she wanted to **** him, and he wanted more, and he got even more mad when she banged Niall Horan because this wasn’t anything other than a fling to her. Literally, the better entry would have been On My Mind because she’s stating that she was with him cus she liked his tattoos meanwhile Eddie boy is in his feelings. Yeah. Clue - 5 - Still a massive bop. This is a mess of an entry, though. It sounds like he’s the one who wants to have more of a relationship, and then again he sounds like he just wants a quick fling? It’s all too unclear for me. Dylan - 5.5 - There’s a LOT going on here. The first few lines fit the theme but then it just gets progressively worse from there. I don’t know if his ego is bruised or if he really wanted something with her? Supaspaz - 3 - The connection here is tenuous at best. This girl may have jerked him around, but as he admits, he was never looking for a promise or commitment, so it’s not even a role reversal of the theme. Remmy - 5 - Simply doesn’t completely fit the theme. Britney Spears - Oops!... I Did It Again Astro - 8.5 - Almost perfect. The bridge kinda kills it though. Clue - 6 - It’s almost there, but there’s no substance to sell the song in the verses. The verses are so… nothing. Dylan - 8 - This isn’t as strong as expected and that iconic bridge doesn’t do you any favors. But, overall I think most find this to be a song about having “harmless” but not so harmless fun. Supaspaz - 10 - To every thing there is a season, and a Britney song to every purpose under the heaven. Amen. Remmy - 9 - The bridge complicates Britney’s side a tiiiny bit (while also strengthening her partner’s POV, obviously someone diving into the ocean to get a gift has to be pretty damn committed) but this definitely works. Demi Lovato - Something That We’re Not Astro - 10 - Oh I’m bringing Niall up again because this is about him. Hate Demi, hate this song, and hate this album, but this is perfect for the theme. Clue - 10 - Perfect. Dylan - 10 - This is what I would have submitted this round so it’s clearly a 10. Supaspaz - 10 - Did I just...enjoy a Demi Lovato song? Remmy - 10 - The lyrics show both sides CLEAR AS DAY. Nothing to critique here. The Weeknd - The Birds (Part 1) Astro - 8.5 - I mean, he’s letting her know in a warning, but there’s no indication this girl wants anything other than what he wants. He’s just assuming. Clue - 7.5 - Whew, that cheap ass drum machine chile. Anyway, it’s pretty much there. Dylan - 9 - Thankfully I already know this song and don’t have to listen again. Yup, it’s good (for the theme)! Supaspaz - 8.5 - Abel fires a warning shot of the romantic pain to come for the woman he’s seducing, though there’s no evidence other than his own ego that she’s actually head over heels for him. Remmy - 7 - Could’ve used some more, and it kinda sounds to me like the relationship hasn’t actually started. Verse Simmonds - Situationships Astro - 1 - Lol, no. Clue - 1 - I see maybe one of the elements that we asked for if I close one eye and squint while looking at the lyrics. Dylan - 3.5 - The third verse hits the theme for a line or two but besides that this is pretty much an affirmation of love. Not really what we were going for. Supaspaz - 1 - What am I missing? Because this sounds like a love song for his ride-or-die **** buddy. Remmy - 1.5 - It was fitting just a little bit early on, and then after that it went completely off track. Sorry, ma! prezli - no submission Astro - Score - b*tch [2] Clue - Score - Comment Dylan - Score - Comment Supaspaz - Score - Comment Remmy - Score - b*tch Nomadis, you're the last one!
