rl231 Posted June 9, 2020 Author Posted June 9, 2020 Contestants Song Adr Good Charlotte - The Anthem DripDrip The Runaways - Cherry Bomb EriKills Muse - Uprising Gateau Public Enemy - Fight the Power Golden 2Pac - Rebel of the Underground kiiwii Janet Jackson - Control Marvin Beyoncé - Freedom (feat. Kendrick Lamar) Good Charlotte - The Anthem Astro - 7 - It’s definitely giving me the theme we’re looking for, but this is too 2000s Myspace page song with Hot Topic wristbands Clue - 10 - This definitely had the elements of a rebel, the rager rock production and the lyrics (which talk about not wanting to be “just like you”). Dylan - 8 - This is classic “you don’t understand me!!! *slams door*” pop rock. And I kind of love it. Who wasn’t a rebel in 2003? Supaspaz - 7 - Serving me tween girl buys her first necktie at Hot Topic after seeing the “Complicated” video on TRL. The Runaways - Cherry Bombry Bomb Astro - 9.5 - WHEW, this classic okay. Suddenly I’m feeling like a lesbian in the 70s; Joan Jett teas. You really did that tho btw x Clue - 9.5 - This fits pretty well for me. She’s talking about doing whatever she wants to do and being wild. It kinda feels like a bit more of a personal liberation song than it does a song about rebelling, but I think you nailed it enough nonetheless. Dylan - 9 - This hits the spot. The cherry bomb metaphor plays out well and the references to mom/dad are paint by numbers rebellion. Supaspaz - 8.5 - When you want to throw off the chains of the patriarchy—and your clothes, too. Muse - Uprising Astro - 9.5 - Muse made many points here, me thinks. Clue - 10 - Oh yes. The song’s completely about rebelling and not allowing yourself to be controlled. I couldn’t ask for more. Dylan - 9.5 - This fares well when I think of the game of Survivor. The goal is to outlast and we’ve seen a lot of players surprise throughout the years. So, this is fun to compare with the game itself. Brownie points. Supaspaz - 8 - The way this got co-opted into a jock jam sort of diminishes its power for me. Public Enemy - Fight the Power Astro - 10 - YUP. we going to fight the power bitch, let’s go!! Clue - 10 - Really great entry. I particularly liked the part where they call out Elvis, which goes against what everyone else generally thinks (which is exactly what a rebel does). Dylan - 8.5 - A bit repetitive but the attitude is there which helps you out a lot. Supaspaz - 10 - Forget rebellion. This is revolution. 2Pac - Rebel of the Underground Astro - 10 - period, this is it. Clue - 10 - 100% on the nose. Dylan - 9.5 - Duh. Supaspaz - 7.5 - Show, don’t tell. The edge and dangerous streak that defined Tupac’s rebellious spirit is missing here. Janet Jackson - Control Astro - 9.5 - This is literally her rebellion song and a giant middle finger to her father by taking control of her career jsdfkg. Yep, this is it. Clue - 8 - I see where you were going, but this definitely fits the “ruler” description more than it fits the rebel. Nonetheless, she does mention not doing what her family wants her to do, which is her rebelling, in a sense. It’s still not all the way there for me. Dylan - 9.5 - Honestly, the entries are so boring so far that I gotta give it to you for throwing a line in a different direction. Supaspaz - 9.5 - One of the all-time great moments of an artist announcing her arrival. She said, “Bye bye, Joe!” Beyoncé - Freedom (feat. Kendrick Lamar) Astro - 10 - Yes. That’s it. That’s the critique. Clue - 10 - This song is all about rebelling against the system that is set up against black women (and black people, period). Yes. Dylan - 9 - Different take on the round without venturing too far off. Nice! Supaspaz - 9 - Beyoncé delivers this one with such a righteous fury that you believe she could do anything. ARCHON NEXT...

rl231 Posted June 9, 2020 Author Posted June 9, 2020 Contestants Song Buddy! ZAYDE WOLF - KING kipperskipper Sizzor & Weekday - Power Is Power Not Like the Movies Unsecret x Vo Williams - Born to Rule prézli Empire Cast - Throne Tom Vercetti Eric B. & Rakim - Follow The Leader Touch It Kanye West - Power URBAN Jay-Z - Run This Town (feat. Kanye West & Rihanna) ZAYDE WOLF - KING Astro - 8.5 - I thought the production at the beginning was going to lead to something interesting but it kinda falls flat for me. Clue - 10 - This song is horrible, just had to say that. But you nailed it completely. He’s talking about ruling and being king. Yup. Dylan - 9 - The production on this is stronger than the lyrics (in a pleasant way) but it’s a pretty clear fit. Supaspaz - 8 - Hits the theme in the most boring and superficial way. Sizzor & Weekday - Power Is Power Astro - 6 - I can kinda see how you get the ruler vibe, but with what Abel says in the chorus, it feels like a rebellion song, especially the “watch me burn it down” line. Clue - 6.5 - They don’t really mention being a leader or a ruler? They’re just kind of talking about power as a concept. I hope I don’t need to be a GOT viewer to understand this one. When they say “now watch me burn it down,” are they talking about giving up power? That kinda also doesn’t help your case. Dylan - 6.5 - Good song! Not sure it’s the best fit this round though. It’s a little more general than some of these other entries and it sounds like this power arose from more of a rebellion. This sounds like more of a mix between your tribe and the rebel tribe. Supaspaz - 6 - Almost comes across as more of a self-empowerment anthem. Unsecret x Vo Williams - Born to Rule Astro - 10 - Yup, this is it. Clue - 10 - He’s staking his claim as a ruler. Good job. Dylan - 10 - This gets me hyped and I think that’s the general feeling all of your tribe members should have gone for this round. Supaspaz - 10 - What is this Madden NFL 19 soundtrack mess? Empire Cast - Throne Astro - 8 - Not really feeling it that much, but I can kind of see the perspective. It doesn’t really do much for me, but at least it’s… on theme, I suppose. Clue - 9 - This is interesting, it’s from the standpoint of the people who are being led. Was that the challenge, though? Dylan - 8 - I actually really like the idea of taking BACK the throne because this is All Stars and we have a lot of key players in the game. You guys really are taking back the throne this season. However, the point of view is a little meh for me. Would work better in first-person. Supaspaz - 5 - Is this about...worshipping Jesus? Eric B. & Rakim - Follow The Leader Astro - 6 - I don’t really get the whole ruler vibe that you probably got from this, it isn’t really apparent like Born To Rule, for instance. It sets up a vague leader concept, but it falls pretty flat. Clue - 4.5 - I’m really struggling with this one. Aside from the “follow the leader” hook, where does it mention anything about being a leader? He’s kinda loosely using the idea of a “leader” just meaning to listen to what he’s telling you in the rap, right? This didn’t hit the mark for me. Dylan - 6 - Something about this falls flat. I don’t get a “ruler” vibe from the production and while it’s lyrically a fit, it’s not the strongest of the bunch. It doesn’t fare so well within your tribe. Supaspaz - 8 - A braggadocio rap classic that brims with the ego and energy of domination, even if it’s lyrics aren’t as direct as some of the other submissions. Kanye West - Power Astro - 10 - Power… A SONG. Literally, this is ****ing it. This is it. I love this song, this is the epitome of a ruler. No one man should have all that power. Clue - 10 - The instrumental ALONE just feels like someone who’s running at the head of a race, leading the pack and the lyrics are the icing on the cake. Really solid pick. Dylan - 9.5 - I mean… I’m not shocked but the instrumental on this is the epitome of your tribe’s theme. Supaspaz - 10 - No modern pop star has ever been more full of themselves, but when he backed it up with stuff like this, you believed him. Jay-Z - Run This Town (feat. Kanye West & Rihanna) Astro - 7 - I’ve always gotten rebel vibes more than anything from this song; it ventures beyond the border between ruler and rebel and stays a bit too long in the rebel area. Clue - 8 - The lyrics paint a picture of a group of underdogs that are trying to start an uproar and in turn lead everyone to victory (making them the leaders of the uproar). I think this is almost there for me. It definitely does dance on the line between a leadership song and a song about rebellion. Dylan - 7 - There’s a thin line between your tribe and the rebel tribe this round and I think you ventured a little too far into the rebel side of things. Supaspaz - 7 - Are they planning to rule the town or burn it all down? This could just as easily fit the rebel theme. NOMADIS NEXT...

rl231 Posted June 9, 2020 Author Posted June 9, 2020 Contestants Song Bey_Rihstan Metallica - Where I May Roam dussymob Jhené Aiko - Spotless Mind Lucky#17 Little Big Town - Rollin Medo Tinashe - Wanderer Staryu Jimmy Eat World - The Middle thecptz Nelly Furtado - I'm Like a Bird Yvess Taylor Swift - A Place in This World Metallica - Wherever I May Roam Astro - 10 - You are roaming, a nomad wanders wherever they choose and have no set rules and are bound to no code. This is perfect for your tribe. Clue - 9.5 - This was so dramatic, but I loved it for the task that you were given. As a roamer in this game, you made it far (or maybe not so far) by bending and shifting with the tide. And I think this song perfectly captures that. Dylan - 7 - This is a TAD (very) harsh for your tribe’s theme in my opinion. The roaming aspect is there obviously and I think you touch on taking over the unknown well. But, in doing so, you start to venture off into other tribe’s themes. Supaspaz - 10 - Putting the devil in devil-may-care attitude. Jhené Aiko - Spotless Mind Astro - 9 - I think is a great choice for this round, it’s very go with the flow, which is what nomads opt to do - especially when they’re concerned about themselves. They go where the tide takes them. Clue - 7.5 - The roamer aspect is there, but I don’t love how much this song is about a relationship, it’s kinda taking me out of the fantasy. Dylan - 9 - Oh my god, I love this song. I was thinking of this song for your tribe though it’s not PERFECT. Your tribe is meant to represent the more level-headed castaways of the bunch that are willing to jump ship and change things up. You guys were less stubborn in your gameplay and saw both sides of things and that probably pissed people off sometimes. Supaspaz - 9 - “Change is inevitable” is a good guiding philosophy for a game that can change on a dime. Little Big Town - Rollin Astro - 10 - I think this works flawlessly for your tribe; you keep rolling, you keep moving forward, you keep GOING. Wanderers do that and you captured that essence perfectly. Clue - 10 - This is like Metallica, but it PERFECTLY nails the theme without being dramatic. It’s also about rolling with the tide just like a Survivor roamer would do. Dylan - 10 - This works very well and it even mentions strategy and winning from a more subtle perspective. Which I think was the point of your tribe’s theme. Playing the game a little less on the radar than your competition. This tribe had a harder task and I think with that in mind, you have my favorite entry this round. Supaspaz - 10 - An absolutely perfect pick, with the added bonus that the central dice metaphor of the chorus even slips in a mention of strategy. Tinashe - Wanderer Astro - 6.5 - I get what you were going for, I do. However, judging from what she says, Tinashe seems like she is discussing the moment before she reaches the conclusion she must wander, even though she insists she is a wanderer. When she says “the road is calling,” it seems like she is about to go wander instead of already being one; she seems lost and not yet found. Clue - 5.5 - This was way too out there for me. Past the “wanderer” hook, it doesn’t really nail the idea of what a wanderer/roamer does, in my view. Dylan - 8.5 - Tinashe’s lyrics are a little ambiguous but I think you overall understood the theme of your tribe. There’s some questionable lyrics but I like it overall. Supaspaz - 5 - Very alluring, but Tinashe seems more lost than liberated here. Jimmy Eat World - The Middle Astro - 1 - This… Is about adolescence, completely. I’ve always understood this song to mean that. I see what you were trying to do, but you’re trying to force a concept that isn’t within this song whatsoever. Clue - 8 - This kinda takes on a different side of the roamer, it’s almost like the roamer is second guessing themself and thinking that they SHOULD be more of a leader/be more visible. But then the chorus is just saying that they’re in the middle of the game, in a sense, and they should ride it out. I wish the roamer aspect was more at the forefront, but I definitely liked where this seemed to be going. Dylan - 5 - I get the whole “middle” thing, but this screams more standard self-empowerment than it does strategy. The verses don’t help with lyrics like “don’t write yourself off yet”. I didn’t take this tribe theme to mean you guys are hopeful floaters, but more so level-headed strategizers. Supaspaz - 1 - I absolutely adore this song (like any self-respecting millennial), but it completely misses the mark of the theme. The “middle” referenced here is adolescence, not some sense of splitting the difference between your options. Nelly Furtado - I'm Like a Bird Astro - 7.5 - This song has always seemed to be about wandering and flying away (pun intended), but I can’t help but feel there might have been other options. I do see your point though. Clue - 7.5 - Again, the message gets muddled here by the relationship talk in the verses/pre chorus. Nevertheless, it nearly hits the nail on the head with the chorus, so I’m gonna give you points for that. Dylan - 8 - The bridge is a little yikes, but the chorus can be applied to the idea of you guys being in cahoots with both sides and playing the game from less of a team perspective and more of an individual one. Supaspaz - 7.5 - You could say Nelly is more flaky than free, but either way, she doesn’t get tied down. Taylor Swift - A Place in This World Astro - 5.5 - Not seeing the whole roamer concept, I’m seeing it more of a confused reason of why they’re alone, but in this game, you’re alone because you chose to be. It’s more confusion than flat out being a roamer. I see what you tried to do, but it falls pretty flat. Clue - 5.5 - I’m missing the roamer aspect almost completely here. I see where it could’ve worked with the whole trying to find a spot where you fit in, but the idea isn’t fleshed out in the lyrics. Dylan - 5.5 - I don’t really think your tribe represents players that were alone per se. It’s more so that they didn’t play the two party game that a majority of players do play. They were a little more aloof. Your guys’ theme is clearly harder than the other two but I’m not sure that you did the best with it regardless. Supaspaz - 6 - “I don’t know what I want, so don’t ask me”? You’ve still got to have a strategy if you want to win this game! FINAL RESULTS UP NEXT...
