James Brown Points: 26,827 Nicknamed the God-father of Soul, and Hardest Working Man In Show Business, James Brown was a key figure in popularizing soul music among the mainstream in the late 50s to mid 60s. Growing up in poverty during the Great Depression, he learned to sing, play piano, guitar and harmonica. During WWII, he danced for spare change for soldiers stationed at the local army base. While in juvenile detention for robbery, James Brown met Bobby Byrd and after being released, he eventually began performing as a member of his R&B group "The Famous Flames", where he alternated between singing and playing various instruments. James Brown soon took over the management of the group, and began getting more involved in production, and got his first hit with "Try Me" in 1958 under "James Brown and The Famous Flames". As the 60s progressed, he became famous for his energetic performances and toured relentlessly, while still finding time to make music. During this time, he also began developing his own unique groove, which was eventually described as funk music. He also began singing with a greater emphasis on rhythm than melody, an approach that would late influence hip hop and rap music and he also emphasized rhythm with his guitar work. With the rise of hip-hop music, James Brown became the most sampled artist of all time, often without getting formally credited on the songs. James Brown's performance style and music influenced many successful acts such as Sly & The Family Stone, Michael Jackson, Prince and M.C. Hammer. Madonna Ciccone Points: 27,255 Although her father enrolled her in piano lessons, Madonna's main interest as a teenage was dancing, and she got a dance scholarship from the University of Michigan, before dropping out and moving to New York where she lived as a struggling artist for a few years. First she performed as a dancer in theater groups, then on disco artist Patrick Hernandez's concert tour, for which she was also a back-up singer. Then she formed a couple bands with boyfriends of hers, first the Breakfast Club, then Emmy, before getting a record deal as a solo artist in 1982, and she got to work making disco songs. At first, her success was limited to the dance charts, but the later singles from her self-titled debut album such as "Lucky Star" and "Borderline" also had significant success on the Hot 100. In addition to the tremendous success of her follow up 80s albums and their singles, "Like A Virgin", "True Blue" and "Like A Prayer", which earned her the title Queen of Pop, Madonna also became a fashion icon, and helped make conservative social norms a thing of the past by challenging them in her music videos and live performances. Following backlash to her increasingly sexually provocative image and behaviour in the early 90s, she release "Bedtime Stories" in 1994, and after previous struggles with her acting career, she received critical acclaim for her role in the 1996 musical "Evita". In 1998, she released one of her most acclaimed albums, "Ray of Light", the result of collaboration with electronica producer William Orbit. She continued to have success in the 20th century, with albums such as "Music" and "Confessions on a Dance Floor", record breaking stadium tour, and the 2012 Superbowl Half Time Show. Johan Schuster (Shellback) Points: 27,545 Swedish producer and songwriter Johan Schuster (Shellback) started playing music as a drummer in local bands, and later also performed as a vocalist in the hardcore metal scene, including for the melodic death metal band "Death Colony" and sent many demos to Max Martin through a mutual friend. However, Max Martin was more interested in seeing how Shellback could contribute to make pop songs with him and signed him to his production company in 2007. His first hit was on his collaboration with P!nk and Max Martin for "So What" which went #1 in 2008. At that point, Dr. Luke was Max Martin's most popular collaborator, but Shellback began to rival Dr. Luke in the early 10s thanks to the success of his collaborations with Maroon 5 and Taylor Swift. It was also with Maroon 5 that he had his first major hit without Max Martin, 2011's #1 hit "Moves Like Jagger", and he worked on many more songs without Max Martin since then, such as "Run Away With Me", "Payphone", "Animals", "Want U Back" and "Still Falling For You". It just makes me see how much bigger Max will be on this chart because most of Britney/Katy, and all of NSYNC, The Backstreet Boys, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, and The Weeknd are absent here. (I'm guessing the rest of the big players in the MXM production camp will be coming shortly - Luke, Ilya, Savan, Benny Blanco)

Dr Luke - Kesha, Katy Shellback - Maroon 5, Taylor Swift Savan Kotecha - Ariana, The Weeknd Ilya - Ariana Savan and Benny have already been revealed though, check the original post.

BnPac Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 Nice thread, nice work. It's sad I didn't follow this thread from the get go. I wonder where Paul McCartney will land? I was surprised to see Bob Dylan so low. Idk if Joni Mitchell made it ? I didn't follow the thread since the beginning, a pity, now reading the whole thing seems a lot. Will Prince make it ? If he makes it, can you please tag me ? Thanks. Btw how come Fallin' is a perfect 100% when it heavily samples J. Brown ? I'm also very surprised that Like You'll Never See Me Again is 50% with such a strong Prince's sample. Very nice thread, so happy to see so many women making it. Funny how some men have a lot of 10%, sometimes on songs 1% or 0% and no one bat an eye but it's a problem for women.
