Mr. Duff Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 Bob Dylan Such a legend. Bruno Mars also almost making it!
Ash12345 Posted January 4, 2020 Author Posted January 4, 2020 59. Dwayne Carter Jr. (Lil Wayne) Points: 23,679 Lil Wayne started rapping when he was eight, and met Birdman, owner of Cash Money Records a year later, who began mentoring him. He got his first songwriter hit with B.G., a fellow member of hip hop group Hot Boys, as a featured artist on "Bling Bling" (#36) in 1999, and got his second songwriter hit with "Tha Block Is Hot" (#72) later that year from his debut album. After a few more minor hits, he gained wider recognition with his appearance on Destiny's Child's "Soldier" (#3) in 2004. In 2008, he released his most successful album, "Tha Carter III" with his first #1 hit, "Lollipop", turning him into one of the most popular rappers of the time. In 2009, he signed new artists Nicki Minaj and Drake to his label, Young Money Entertainment, which he founded a few years earlier, and would go on to have several hits collaborating with them. His success slowed down when issues with Birdman and Cash Money prevented him from releasing Tha Carter V in 2014 as he had planned, and he was only able to release it after getting out of his contract with Cash Money in 2018, earning him four more top 10 hits. lipes Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 I thought Sia had way more entries as a songwriter she's so famous for her songwriting
trainsskyscrapers Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 So happy for Wayne. Samples aside, he really birthed a dynasty. Nicki, Drake, Tyga. It would've been GAME OVER for Rap if Lil Twist, Gudda Gudda, Chanel West Coast, and Shanell made it big too. Essentially a Marvel Cinematic Universe without Ant Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, and the TV component.

For a super diverse songwriter who found success with hip-hop (late 90s), pop (00s), EDM pop (early 2010s). I'm surprised he hasn't been able to keep his name afloat in credits towards the end of the 2010s like, say, Pharrell. All those hits though

Mariah Carey Points: 22,899 One of the most successful artists of all time, Mariah Carey learned to master her voice from her mother, who was also a singer. She started writing songs in high school, and got more serious about that in her senior year after meeting co-writers Ben Margulies and Gavin Christopher. She struggled to get a record deal until she met singer Brenda K. Starr who showed her demos to Tommy Mottola, head Columbia Records (who she would marry a few years later). Mottola felt Mariah had great potential and invested in top producers and a major promotional campaign, and her self-titled debut album turned into a block-buster success with four #1 singles in 1990-1991. She released six more highly successful albums in the 90s, all with several major hits, with the later of those albums taking on more R&B and hip-hop influences. Following her break-up with Mottola, she left Columbia and signed Virgin Records America in 2001. However, she began going through some personal struggles, which negatively affected her public image, and her first album with Virgin, the soundtrack album for the movie "Glitter" struggled to achieve commercial success, leading to her getting dropped by her new label. After "Charmbracelet" also struggled, she surprised everyone with her big come-back album "The Emancipation of Mimi" in 2005, which revived her career with several major hits, most notably "We Belong Together", and she was able to get additional hits with the albums that followed. Just as she again began to struggle to get new hits in the 2010s, streaming made it possible for her 1994 Christmas classic "All I Want For Christmas Is You" to chart more easily, reaching #1 for the first time in 2019, and it should allow her to continue to have significant chart success in the fourth decade of her career. Because the only people credited for the actual musical arrangement are her and Affanesieff, B2M are only included as lyrical credits in the album liner. Did you differentiate on music v. lyrics in terms of songwriting?

Ash12345 Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 58. Daryl Hall Points: 24,086 The son of a singer father and vocal coach mother, Daryl Hall majored in music at Temple University, where he joined vocal group The Temptones. Around that time, he also began working with soul legends Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff as an artist and session musician. In 1967 he met John Oates after getting into a fight with him during a dance, which led to them playing music together and getting a record deal in 1972. Daryl Hall was the lead vocalist while John Oates played guitar and had back-up vocals, and their mix of r&b and pop-rock enjoyed a great deal of success in the mid 70s to late 80s, making them one of the top selling duos of all time. Ash12345 Posted January 6, 2020 Author Posted January 6, 2020 (edited) 57. Mick Jagger Points: 24,258 The lead singer of The Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger started singing in church when he was a kid, and enjoyed singing whenever he could. In contrast to the members of The Beatles, the other super star British group of his era, he had a much more rebellious and sexual image, and mannerisms and outfits that often didn't conform to the masculine norms of the time. After failing to convince Keith Richards to agree to take the Stones in a more dance-pop direction, he ended up going that route with his solo career, releasing his first album in 1985, and fell out with Keith Richards for a few years. He got back together with the Stones in the late 80s after he failed to achieve the level of success he was hoping for with his solo career, although he still continued to release solo music. Mick Jagger also made an album as part of a group SuperHeavy in 2011, with Joss Stone, Bob Marley's son Damian, Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart, and Indian musician A.R. Rahman (most famous for Slumdog Millionaire's song "Jai Ho").
