Vilppu Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 rly like a lot of these! mitski and young fathers (janelle above them eek) in particular and i'm interested in the stoner metal album, the song on your list was very very great
volition Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Aviary feels like a 10 minute listen x Most of these (minus DC) are really good and Mitski deserves to be this low x George, Paak, Skee Mask, Haru, King Tim, KKB, Clarence, Young Fathers, Anna, PQ, Sleep Caretaker album was... long

I have something to say for each of them though ? The impact and the shade MALAMENTE, One Thing Left to Try, Honey, Blue Rose and Peanut Top 10 is perfect! Haven't caught up with The Field yet, still haven't heard his last two or three records. Thought the same the first time I heard Livin' Loose, it has this early-Washed Out vibe I'm so mad at myself I didn't check out the album back in August when it came out, it would have been a perfect late summer album for me. Let the Lioness is literally insane, definitely top 3 on the abum. I had a feeling Carti would top at least one of your list, but didn't expect to see Lean 4 Real as your #1 here Without a doubt his best song, I regret putting not putting it on my main list. Slide, Aviary, Care for Me, Compro (!!!), Working Class Woman, Cocoa Sugar, Be the Cowboy, Dead Magic, El mal querer, Time 'n' Place, Konoyo and Haru To Shura, oh yes, we stan!
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 31, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 31, 2018 UGH, yes, Bye Bye Teens Lullabye. It's so ****ing good. Platonic Planet is a little better but also has a little less variety so it depends on what you want I guess. I am glad I uploaded it as local files on my spotify bc I listen a lot. Haru's album seemd long on first listen but on 2-5 mroe listens I realized it's actually pretty short, and I don't have to listen to the remixes at the end cuz who does that?

Only thing you need from the last The Field album is Pink Sun. I wish more George's album was as strong as Livin Loose, would've stannned more. True @ Carti. I didn't expect it either earlier in the year but it won at the end.
Eeveelution Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 The Mitski position is highway robbery *throws stone*
potent Posted December 31, 2018 Posted December 31, 2018 Yeah I haven't really been able to get into Mitski, I can still appreciate her music though. Dirty Computer a solid album, but I agree that Crazy Classic Life is a dud.

Tom Vercetti Posted January 1, 2019 Author Posted January 1, 2019 25. Infernal Coil - Within A World Forgotten (War Metal/Deathgrind) This definitely sounds like a soundtrack to a deadly forest filled with vengeful spirits lurking. As "deathgrind" implies, it's a mixture of oldschool grindscore styles and the aggressive sound of black metal. It's short and chaotic throughout. Key Tracks: Wounds Never Close, Crusher Of The Seed, In Silent Vengeance Spoiler 24. JONGHYUN - Poet | Artist (K-Pop/Contemporary R&B) Great for a posthumous album and showed further potential as a solo artist. Key Tracks: Rewind, #hashtag, Shinin, Spoiler 23. Eli Keszler - Stadium (Electroacoustic) For a modern electrocaustic album, this had enough jazzy touches to keep me interested. It's a very comfy work. Key Tracks: Measurements Don't Change The System, We Live In Pathetic Temporal Urgency, Flying Floor For U.S Airways Spoiler 22. JPEGAMAFIA - Veteran (Experimental Hip Hop/Industrial Hip Hop) Flashy glitch hop production w some funny culture-oriented song titles. Key Tracks: Baby I'm Bleeding, Real Nega, 1539 N. Calvert, I Cannot F**king Wait Til Morrisey Dies Spoiler 21. Bladee - Red Light (Cloud Rap/Alternative R&B) Misunderstood by "busiest internet music nerds". The autotone is the reason why any of his stuff are good. Key Tracks: Obedient, Decay, Steve Jobs Spoiler 20. Amen Dunes - Freedom (Neo-Psycheledia/Singer-Songwriter) This is one of those records that's not entirely amazing but has potential on being underrated in the future if that makes sense. Key Tracks: Blue Rose, Believe, Skipping School, Mika Dora, L.A Spoiler 19. Serpentwithfeet - Soil (Alternative R&B/Art Pop) First discovered him from his blisters ep. The "overdramatic" vocals from him is his thing and he owns it. I don't mind it very much since his voice sounds great to me. Definitely underappreciated, especially in the state of R&B in 2018. Key Tracks: Cheribum, blessurheart, Fragnant, Whisper Spoiler 18. MGMT - Little Dark Age (Synthpop/Neo-Psychedelia) Held up well for me. The boys repeaked and found their spark back after that 2013 flop. Title track is still peak. Key Tracks: Little Dark Age, Me & Michael, One Thing Left To Try Spoiler 17. U.S Girls - In A Poem Unlimited (Art Pop/Neo-Psychedlia) Her best album and most consistent one too. Key Tracks: Rosebud, Incidental Boogie, Pearly Gates, Velvet 4 Sale Spoiler 16. Beach House - 7 (Dream Pop/Neo-Psychedelia) Bloom and Teen Dream are still above this but it's a top 3 for them. The singles here are really good and makes up some of their best songs. Key Tracks: Dark Spring, Lemon Glow, Black Car, Girl Of The Year Spoiler 15. Deepchord - Immersions (Dub Techno/Ambient Techno) Never fails to immerse me in a watery world. Key Tracks: Part 1 and Part 2 Spoiler 14. Mika Vaino + Ryoji Ikeda + Alva Noto - Live 2002 (Glitch/Minimal Techno) This is a trip with good headphones. Key Tracks: All of them Spoiler 13. Yves Tumor - Safe In The Hands Of Love (Neo-Psychedelia/Post Industrial) Amazing production throughout. This is like Dean Blunt + Lil Peep mixed into one. Key Tracks: The singles + Let The Lioness In You Flow Freely Spoiler 12. Kali Uchis - Isolation (Neo-Soul/Contemporary R&B) An impressive debut offering a multitude of diverse songs that flow in together. It's a good sign when people have a bunch of different favorite songs from one album. Key Tracks: Just A Stranger, Tomorrow, Dead To Me, Your Teeth In My Neck, Coming Home (Interlude), After The Storm Spoiler 11. Robyn - Honey (Electropop/Dance Pop) I'd say this was a satisfying followup to an 8 year old album. It's not as sparkling in the production as Body Talk but instead more of a tranquil'd mood. The 2nd half > first. Key Tracks: Send To Robyn Immediately, Honey, Between The Lines Spoiler 10. Obliteration - Cenotaph Obscure (Death Metal/Black Metal) Metal album of the year. Fits more of my crushing appetite. Key Tracks: Eldritch Summoning, Detestation Rite, Charnel Plains Spoiler 9. Cv313 - analogue oceans (Ambient Techno/Dub Techno) A grand and immersive listen from start to finish. Key Track: All of them? But Analogue Ocean (covalent) specifically https://echospacedetroit.bandcamp.com/album/analogue-oceans 8. Autechre - NTS Sessions 1-4 (IDM) Autechre are my favorite duo and they've remained the most consistent in releasing music compared to some of their other IDM contemporaries (Aphex, BoC, Squarepusher). Their last release was around 4 hours of music and this time they felt the need to double that. The release for these sessions were weekly as no normal human being can properly digest straight 8 hours of current autechre noise all at once. I liked each of the sessions, some more than others, but each have their own quirk to them. Key Tracks: Four Of Seven, xflood, clustro casual, all end Spoiler each session are on spotify x 7. Pusha T - Daytona (Hardcore Hip Hop) Euggh! Excluding Grouper's uneventful album this year, Daytona was the true setter for the sub 24 minute albums. All Killer No Filler is a much needed concept in the modern streaming age where countless artists nowadays are just beefing their albums with unnecessary baggage just for streams. Before this year Pusha was on the underrated/underdog side as his other solo releases have never gotten as much attention as Daytona. Kanye did help of course, but it was also his victory against Drake in the rap beef department that helped his rise of respect. Even though this album doesn't necessarily have "filler" it's not all the way strong. There are a couple of ehs but the most important thing is that Daytona had a strong start and a strong finish. Key Tracks: If You Know You Know, Come Back Baby, Infrared Spoiler 6. Kids See Ghosts - Kids See Ghosts (Pop Rap/Experimental Hip Hop) After their previous track records together (Welcome To Heartbreak/Guilt Trip/Father Stretch My Hands part 1) I was very on board with a Kanye/Cudi album. Compared to Watch The Throne, I believe this gonna have more longevity, even if the production on this isn't as groundbreaking or fresh as blind stans may claim. I view this as a concept album and the length here works out fine for all it has to offer. Key Tracks: Reborn, Kids Sees Ghosts, Cudi Montage Spoiler 5. Various Artists - Welcome to Paradise Vol. III: Italian Dream House 90-94 (Deep House/Italo House) It's a compilation of old never-released tunes but it works so well in a modern format. It offers a variety of warm and tropical house tunes that make it the house record of the year for me. Key Tracks: Universal, Childeren Trip, Deep Blue, Dance to the House Spoiler 4. Korridor - End Of Cycle (Industrial Techno/Dark Ambient) Techno album of the year with extremely tasteful dark sound palettes. Key Tracks: The Fall, Fundamental, Accident I'm On The Ground, Now Or Never Spoiler 3. Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs (Abstract Hip Hop/Experimental Hip Hop) The peak of 23-25 minute albums in 2018. He was one of my more anticipated releases and with his 20 second verse in Vince's EP. giving us a sneak peek of what was to come, led to even more hype He stated how nowhere2go was his most single friendly song, so by that this album was bound to be crazy. This album has some of his darkest and most personal moments and it's a good thing that they don't overstay its welcome. Each track leads to a new temporary zone within his mental state, building up excitement of what was going to happen next. I like how the album closes off with a slightly cheerful jazz instrumental. Also has there ever been a more appropriate album title? Glory to Sadvillainy. Key Tracks: Red Water, Nowhere2go, December 24, The Mint, Veins, Peanut Spoiler 2. SOPHIE - OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES (Bubblegum Bass/Deconstructed Club) I officially like Sophie now. After years of dragging her music it took me a while for my ear to get accustomed to her PC material. This flows way better than her product compilation. The sound design is also impressive. She incorporated a dark ambient track amidst the upbeat tracks much better than The Knife could do. There's three sections I divide this into, the first 1/3 being the commercial singles, the second 2/3 being the more ingenious and subdued side (this section is the biggest grower) and the last 3 being a combination of the first two sections. Definitely one of the most unique albums of the decade. Key Tracks: Ponyboy, Is It Cold In The Water, Infatuation, Immaterial, Whole New World/Pretend World Spoiler 1. Playboi Carti - Die Lit (Trap Rap/Cloud Rap) First time an artist had both of my song and album of the year but heh. At first listen I was turned off by the length and didn't think there was much to offer from Die Lit but upon the couple more listens it started to make sense. Compared to his self title mixtape, this definitely has more commercial factor with its collaborations (travis, thugger, chun li, keef, skepta) but aesthetically resembles a punkier style. Pi'erre Bourne also deserves more credit as he was responsibility for a lot of replayable factor with the 'atmospheric' productions. Within two years Carti has made himself a staple name in the trap rap genre. It's also my most played so it's placement is justified. Key Tracks: Long Time, R.I.P, Lean4real, Lovehurts, Shoota, Right Now, Poke It Out, Mileage, Choppa Won't Miss Spoiler

I'm just not attached to a bunch of these songs. This is completely fair though. It's nice music but that's kinda it. Great albums list, especially #1-#3 Another great countdown in the books!
Tom Vercetti Posted January 1, 2019 Author Posted January 1, 2019 Forgot to post an hms list. Here's some albums that I was either underwhelmed by or liked a bit but not enough for top 50.
volition Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 thought die lit might b the 1 after ur songs #1. it's a fun album and a great choice when i first heard earl's album, i was very disappointed, but then i did a complete 180 after a couple more listens and now i think it's incredible glad to see korridor here too, thought it was very good overall a really great albums list and best of overall
volition Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 & daughters deserved to be on the main list even though it is exceedingly overrated in Certain Places
thirdward Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 carti #1? your taste is giving me serious ktt teas this years
Lazuli Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Freedom, IAPU, 7, Isolation, Honey Sad that Sweetener, Chris, Golden Hour and TFATP didn't make it
Price of Fame Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Man, what a weak year for music. Hope 2019 is better
Blue Rose Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Kanye slaying the top10 while Robyn missed it. A choice was made. Damon top20 I like our explanation of Sophie’s album. I just dismissed it as not cohesive after week 1
Invisibility Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 GODPHIE getting that runner-up spot KKB almost scrapping top 30, whew Mitski and Janelle FLOPPING. They deserved better but I get ur reasons for those
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted January 1, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted January 1, 2019 Honey is SO amazing ugh her mind
Vilppu Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Quote 24. JONGHYUN - Poet | Artist (K-Pop/Contemporary R&B) i will have to come back to die lit and the earl album, i don't feel like i gave them enough attention but they definitely earned their spot here. unfamiliar with any of the techno albums and idc for robyn that much but everything else here is also really good and i liked a couple of the HMs too but HM seems fair since they all have some flaws too significant to warrant a place on main list or just aren't anything really that impressive great countdown as always, will try to check some more things i haven't heard ^-^
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted January 1, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted January 1, 2019 Wow, good #1! The last time I had the same artist at #1 for songs and albums was m.i.a. in 2013 lmao. Some of your HMs deserved the real list I don't remember you ever hating SOPHIE but I'm glad you saw the light. The album's pacing really shouldn't work but like it does.
Dom Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 robyn honey is such a strong comeback, shame not much success, but we love it anyway sophie is so weird, but so good at the same time ? ariana deserved to make it tho, for breathin alone >>>>>>
