Why do you think Swift is outright underperforming on radio this era @DELE2125 @One Nation?

It's all so... strange, especially when compared to her previous eras, and it's not as if it's because the musical climates shift toward Urban/Heavier Rhythmic sounds have affected her because (unlike throughout the early to mid 2000's) Pop radio is barely touching it.

I genuinely wonder. :foxaylove3:

I think it's the subject matter. LWYMMD was off-putting to even her stans I think. I'm a casual fan but I never had the urge to go back to it until after the video release.

I loved Ready For It but the release was a botched mess and End Game is a bop and much more accessible than the first two singles. I'm legit shocked it's struggling so much. :doc:

I genuinely believe LWYMMD hurt her more than it benefited her, and pushing it hard on radio past the point where everyone was already fed up with the song was just a really bad strategy, it might have killed her Radio performance for the whole era (and she's getting close to 30 years old, and as we all know Radio is ageist when it comes to women, so it's not like she has more eras to redeem herself Radio-wise).

And RFI is just really a bad song, I don't even want to know how it sounded on radio (they never played it here, as far as I know) because it's just too noisy.

Finally, End Game just feels like trying to get on trend (Future and Sheeran for streaming aid and Sheeran for that extra Radio appeal) and the song just doesn't flow natural. It feels way too manufactured, and at least to me, the "big reputation" being repeated to infinity and beyond is just irksome.

She had a great run on Radio, tho. There's no denying that.

No reason to speak as if Taylor's "run" on radio is over. She's stumbled a bit do to some questionable decisions, but she's still very much "in" to the pop audience: See: album sales and touring.

They just NEED to release Delicate next.

hope that Tay and Riri won’t have ageism problems. They look still young and fresh.

Maybe they can have the same longevity as P!nk. Who knows? But Radio is ageist towards women over 30 and that's the way it's been for a long time. Pretty f*cked up if you ask me.

Mariah had her biggest pop radio hit at 35 :cm:

Madonna and JLo also had success at radio well into their 30s.

Yeah... 12 years ago... And so did Gwen Stefani (and I think Fergie as well). But that doesn't make it the norm, does it? :cm:

You made a blanket statement about females and ageism against them in their 30s which is inaccurate. You adding additional artists further proves my point :cm:

Mention at least 10 female artists over 30 with a top 10 on Radio in the last two years. I'll wait :cm:

What 10 female pop artists have actually attempted to promote their songs on Pop radio within the past two years? :rip:

And now you're just saying "radio" when the entire discussion began in regards to POP radio? You're moving the marks like before when your statements are debunked. Let's not do this again :lmao:

Can you name them in Pop Radio then? :cm: As far as I know Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, JLo (Ain't Your Mama), Fergie, Gwen Stefani (Make Me Like You, Misery), Shakira, etc have sent songs to Pop Radio in the last two years, but neither have had a top 10 there. :cm:

Beyonce has not promoted a song on Pop radio since 2014.

You asked me to name 10 female pop artists that have went Top 10 on Pop radio who are over 30 when there haven't even been 10 who have ATTEMPTED to do so. Your argument is making zero sense and the generalized blanket statement you made about ageism in the 30s for female pop artists is just wrong :lmao:

Ageism in their 40s? Yes. But several female artists have had success at Pop radio well into their 30s.

There have been more than 10 that have attempted to, look it up. I'm not doing the homework for you. :foxaylove3:

IMO Taylor declined compared to the massive 1989 era but it's a bit extreme to say she's over on radio :doc:  she still got 2 top 10s (included a #1) on Pop and Hot AC this era (probably End Game will be her third in the latter).

Cher had her biggest radio hit, Believe, at 52-53, but she's probably the biggest exception to the rule of anyone -- maybe even as far as a once in the modern music era phenomenon. Madonna had Music and Don't Tell Me at 42. Sia didn't have any hits until after she turned 40. Elton John's CITW 97, hit #1 when he was 50, but only the B-Side, Something About The Way You Look Tonight (outside of CITW 97 at AC for a month or so), had any radio support, and that was at HAC and AC . John obviously spent 14 weeks at #1 for his unprecedented (and still unmatched, with 2 M + in sales at non SS outlets) 11 M in single's sales.

Taylor is getting horrible call out scores in all big markets. New York, LA, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, DC, Philadelphia, Miami, Seattle. Especially among minorities.

With Trump president the mood of pop radio's target audience has completely changed. People want to have fun or listen to songs that have some kind of deeper meaning. Not songs that remind them of Trump's twitter account.

Her whole album is basically like Trump's twitter. Haters, dramas, lies, self centered, aggressive, rude, insensitive.

Yahoo actually had an article on Wednesday about what has ruined Swift's "Reputation," and not referencing only the title's drop in album sales. I'm not sure if I can find the link again, as Yahoo's introduction was actually an intro to another website's full article. Included among them was her refusal to bury the hatchet with Katy Perry. I truly think that doing so would help both of their careers. Perry wants to put it in the past, and has publicly said she is sorry and asked for Swift's forgiveness. So I don't see how Swift can find any advantage now from not forgiving and forgetting. This actually makes Swift look like the bad person now, not Katy. Even worse, Swift's attempt to throw a bone back to Country radio with New Year's Day has flopped. Swift can still make another run at it, but she can't wait a full two years prior to releasing her next album to do so. She needs to cut the gap down to 18 months at most, and give a far greater variety of genre hits -- Pop, HAC/AC, Dance, Rhythmic, Country, and Alternative (yes, she had an actual Rock, not just a pop-rock song, on Red).

Even Pink gets her greatest support at HAC and AC now. Also, she has some streaming issues, meaning her fans are older than the age of the typical streamers. Pink doesn't deserve this increasingly cold shoulder from T 40, but nonetheless that's what the format has begun giving her.
