NoMythologies Posted August 27, 2017 Posted August 27, 2017 I usually agree with the hardcore chart watchers on this site. But I've always disagreed regarding callouts. It's all about familiarity. People start to like songs that feel familiar to them. Obviously there's no way to prove this, but I would bet that the majority of songs that started out low on callouts and were immediately dropped would have raised a significant amount had they gotten the chance to reach a certain audience threshold. And with that said, I highly doubt that radio stations would be actively losing listeners if a song like Bad Liar had the same AI as a song like Attention. I've seen users I almost always agree with vehemently deny that payola exists and I've never understood that. Maybe it's not what people think but labels do still essentially buy airplay. I mean... what exactly is a radio deal if not some acceptable form of payola? Why can certain labels not afford to service their songs to radio? Big names get big airplay. And those songs are, by extension, given more of a chance to raise their familiarity and convince the GP that it's something they do in fact like.
