I wonder how many of these pop girls songs outsold COTH btw (which would be selling as much as Malibu, The Cure and Bad Liar if discounted and same streaming points if it was TTH and major playlists) didn't KEWK flop? I guess that makes Miley, Selena and some others nobodies. Not to mention that Alessia Cara always had terrible iTunes and Spotify performance with her solo singles despite 6-months long Spotify spamming and etc. but it didn't bother radio stations. Radio stations are biased af, Idk why is it so hard to accept? And pretty sure Ed Sheeran doesn't need TTH to send his song on top of Spotify US? Where are people from those 101m AI, what are they doing instead of purchasing and streaming COTH?
alexanderao Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 @Starkboy is right. It's pretty clear that programmers are diverting their attention towards streaming. The follow-up to a smash single always has momentum & an advantage on radio, but like @One Nation said that's not a guarantee of another smash. If we want to talk about Alessia, who radio is apparently biased towards, Wild Things followed Here (a pop radio #1) by peaking at #13 on pop and dropping out of the top 100 two months later. The reason that COTH is doing terribly on Spotify is because it was streamed so much out of the gate (like many 2nd and 3rd singles nowadays from big albums, LOYALTY. and I Feel It Coming are other good examples) that by the time it was pushed to radio and promoted as a single it had already fallen far down on streaming charts.

Alessia is a new artist tho She also slayed the callouts scores with both STYB and Stay (I think Here too) US Spotify streams Castle on the Hill : 75M streams Malibu : 35M streams The Cure : 30M streams Bad Liar : 27M streams US Sales Castle on the Hill : 550k copies Malibu : 303k copies The Cure : 278k copies Bad Liar : 169k copies COTH never discounted unlike the rest ;) COTH not being a lead single/standalone single unlike the rest ;)
sunbleach Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 19 minutes ago, Starkboy said: and people still don't like Bad Liar/like Shawn's song more And that's bull****. Because if they were whoring out the song regardless of the initial metrics on streaming or iTunes (like they do with a select few artists), then the story would be "the GP loves it". Top 40 doesn't make sense, but that's not new. Bad Liar sounds like the kind of song that would solidify Gomez into the pop industry but bland acoustic pop is the "better example".

Thickorita Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I just find it weird how the GP/Radio support a pop girl when there's a DJ attached to the song, but when it's a solo song, they get no support (as seen in the It Ain't Me/Bad Liar situation)
JGibson Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 So glad to see the Mediabase charts on AllAccess back up again.

Sinister Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Bad Liar annoys me and sounds even more annoying on the radio The entire "im trying im trying im trying" is agonizing Some songs just dont translate well on radio

Isaiah Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 How much farther can despacito go? Like is it gonna get to 200m AI? I can't imagine a Spanish song getting that high but radio is obsessed with Bieber so you never know
Communion Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 (edited) Bad Liar's callouts aren't surprising. Its radio performance is weak for any act, but very weak for Selena who radio has always pushed even when her other metrics were weak. I think a more R&B single will bring radio back on board for her. I'm curious if Bad Liar's scores are worse than Pretty Girls and Focus. Those were some shockingly bad callout scores. Edit - I got bored and looked up most of the lowest net positives in the last 3 years: Net Positives: 22.5 - Bad Liar 20.7 - Dear Future Husband 20.0 - Hotline Bling 19.9 - Too Good 19.4 - This Is How We Do 19.1 - I Know What You Did Last Summer 18.8 - Trap Queen 18.5 - Truffle Butter 18.3 - My Way [Fetty Wap] 18.2 - White Iverson 18.0 - Lips Are Movin 16.8 - New Americana 16.4 - Work From Home 15.7 - Anaconda 15.2 - Green Light 14.7 - Fight Song 14.6 - LA Love 13.7 - Don’t Mind 11.3 - Kill Em With Kidness 7.4 - Me Too 7.1 - Wiggle 7.0 - Work ft. Drake 6.3 - I Really Like You 4.7 - Get Ugly 2.5 - I Don’t **** With You 1.3 - Panda 0.0 - Focus-1.4 - Watch Me -3.4 - Rude -3.7 - All About That Bass -5.7 - Pretty Girls The bold. Radio was so rude to them. I think Pretty Girls was the only negative not nearing peak-heavy burn. Edited June 30, 2017 by Communion

EDM doesn't do well, as far as I know. Pop radio call outs still have a super Hot AC lean. The people they interview are probably more middle America types. Into You, for example, did kinda poorly, while Dangerous Woman was super high. Urban-leaning songs are also a no-go. If anything, the whole coffee house acoustic sound to Bad Liar means it should be way higher on pop call outs than it is.
