JAWS, bitch.

So..yeah lol. I'm giving you humanoid-shark couture. The whole basis for this look is simple: I'm a shark. Skin crystallized to symbolize shark skin, scales, whatever idk wtf they have, I ain't an oceanographer. Since i'm a humanoid shark, I take my prey and rip their hearts out with my razor sharp nails and CRUSH it, slowly twisting it out until they bleed out :heart2:

I wanted to go for bones because to me, doing a shark look (much like my turkey runway last season) can borderline camp, or can be flat out camp. However, your bitch ain't here for tacky so I decided to make it more sleek, more edgy, more editorial rather than Katy Perry.

ARTHAUS

365oBPe.pngeMk0CnO.png

Ok this one was definitely a process, and it left me stumped for a few days. Arthouse wasn't as easy as I thought, and when I read on it I wanted to switch but I figured i'd just got for a risk rather than pick something safe, because at this point I have nothing to lose. I did my research, arthouse or art films is a serious genre that touches upon subjects that most major film companies won't go near. I still wanted a touch of quirky, something to add into the unconventionality of arthouse, so I chose that jumpsuit to reflect that.

An Arthouse/Art film defined by my dear sis Wikipedia:

"Typically a serious, independent film, aimed at a niche market rather than a mass market audience. An art film is "intended to be a serious, artistic work, often experimental and not designed for mass appeal", "made primarily for aesthetic reasons rather than commercial profit", and containing "unconventional or highly symbolic content."

They also tend to touch on Social Realism, which if you're curious is defined in the link. So kind of taking both definitions, I wanted to create a runway that's symbolic and touches a pretty serious topic: abuse. This is actually a true story, and something that has happened to many other women across the world. One of my coworkers mother was abused for years by her ex-husband, and one day they got into an altercation and the police were called. Instead of arresting the husband, who clearly had hurt his wife (she had cuts and bruises on her face & body) they detained her. They did not believe her, and the officer didn't care. This was probably around 30+ years ago, and it shows how much of a mans world we really live in.

Onto the runway description; I walk out in handcuffs, escorted by two officers wearing a couture prison jumpsuit (it gotta be couture lol!) They uncuff me and rip my jumpsuit off, revealing a look of revenge. On my face i'm wearing a half crystal mask- one side crystal, and the other side bruises. Right after my suit is ripped off, I look up and at the judges, and rip off the crystal. Revealing an edgy makeup look (next to the bruised look makeup.) This signifies that what you see on the outside, no matter how damaged you may be or appear, that on the inside you're stronger than this man or any obstacle that may be in your way. This whole look showcases toughness, something I believe we all have in us.

Look: First row: Crystal face mask, half bruised face, half makeup.

Second: Gloves/top, shoes/tights, hair.

Third: Gun, red straps where the gun was placed, skirt.

BLOODY SUNDAY

WTr9ZSF.png

The film, Bloody Sunday depicted the events of "Bloody Sunday" in Northern Ireland in 1972, where 14 people died and many more injured. My look is sort-of like a nod to the era, showcasing a 70s style with British fashion in full display. Of course, Bloody Sunday had religious undertones involved so I felt it was appropriate to include a cross choker and rosary beads in my hands. I chose this mainly because it seemed interesting, but once again, I had a hard time going about this. I was debating whether I should be a person in the army, or a victim.

I walk out onto the runway, in a trench coat hands inside the pockets. As i'm walking, you can hear a bang and immediately hold onto my chest. I rip the jacket off to reveal a chest full of blood dripping down my body. I was "shot" by the British Army, after attending to an injured protester lying on the road.

Look: Top row: Bloody clear top, trench coat, Cross choker, 70s style boots.

Second row: Classic British hat, hair, mesh gloves

Third: Pants, makeup and rosary beads.

Gladys Lux Maure

This week was probably one of the toughest weeks I've had all season, if not both of the seasons I've been on. Among many other things in my life, I was hit with fatigue and exhaustion from these challenges, frustration at coming up short, and a general loss of a creative spark. After a long week, I managed to do what I always do, dig myself out of the hole I made for myself and keep it pumping. And with that, I've managed to shock myself with what I believe to be three stellar looks.

Blockbuster Beauties: Star Wars

UgVY8Ey.jpg

The only movie I have seen in the Top 10 list provided was The Sound of Music. I chose Star Wars because I felt the material, from what I knew, had limitless potential and references to draw from. This ended up being the category that stumped me the most. In my research, I've realized that Star Wars is a lot less sci-fi as it is a fantasy with a sci-fi flare. The environments were varied and plentiful, and the fashion within the movies was very different than what I expected. Flowy, thin garments akin to the Yeezy collection seemed to be the norm, with the occasional character that had the most ornate, ridiculous wardrobe imaginable. The one sticking point in my research when it came to fashion was color. Colors were very obvious with characters: good and just characters wore white while evil characters wore black.

For this look, I decided to take inspiration from the main villains: Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers. Inspired by my Club Kid runway earlier this season and the futuristic designs of Gareth Pugh, I constructed a polygonal jacket top, my own armor. I balance out the harsh rigidness of the top with a skirt made of fabric, to represent the robes and flowy garments the characters mainly wear. My shoes are an edited version of actual Pugh shoes, and I wear a tight, slimming bodysuit underneath everything. The only skin showing is my head, where I wear a visor covering my eyes and some earrings that are the symbol of the Rebel federation, which references Darth Vader's anti-hero status. My nails, hair, eyes, and underskirt are all a neon red/pink, which represent the lightsaber. Overall, this was the one outfit in which I took the most liberties from the source material. Inspired by the genre and the iconic villains, I created a dark and mysterious glamazon warrior ready to stomp down a runway far far away.

Critical Acclaim Couture: Spirited Away

XAwZ7VN.jpg

Spirited Away is one of my favorite animated movies ever. I was immediately drawn to it given my aesthetic and inspirations, but I was nervous about doing it justice. When I first thought of ideas, the first thing that came to mind was the train scene. A moment in the film where Chihiro and No-Face ride the train together in silence for to minutes, traveling across the ocean. It's an impactful moment because it's so quiet and beautiful. Water is a very important part of Spirted Away. The male lead Haku is a river god, and Chihiro ends up saving the life of a polluted river spirit midway through the film. Because Spirited Away is so rooted in Japanese culture, I decided to go for a "traditional" kimono look. With sheer see-through sleeves, the kimono would give the illusion of flowing water while in motion. The kimono is a vivid blue that becomes deeper and richer in color the lower you go. The sleeves are also dripping in pieces of gold. Gold is an important part of the movie, depicting the dangers of greed and the potentially blinding evils of money.

The kimono is tied with a blood red sash trimmed with gold, symbolizing the giant red bathhouse Chihiro is trapped in. The bubbly blue shoes are also dipped in a little gold in the soles. On my face, I wear a deep blue veil. This symbolizes the power over words Yababa has and Chihiro and Haku's lost identities. On the top of my head, I wear a traditional Japanese headpiece decorated with gold. I am crowned with pink flowers (the ones that appear when Chihiro follows Haku through a garden) and the fan on my head is painted with what else but a dragon. The branches from the flowers also are reminiscent of Haku's horns. With this look, I was scared to repeat my mistake with my Tim Burton look and go too much into the realm of cosplay and costume again. Spirited Away is a movie I've studied for a long time, and so I hope the love, care, and thought that it took in creating this piece is evident as you see it. Like the movie, I am giving you ethereal and pure beauty.

Film Freak Eleganza: Film Noir

FEKJBHq.jpg

My final look of the evening. Out of all of the categories, Film Noir was the only genre I had heard of previously and the only one I was semi-knowledgeable about. Straight from the 40s, film noirs were dark and sexy, many of which were crime dramas and thrillers. The main thing that popped out to me during research was the idea of the femme fatale. The anti-heroine that uses her sex appeal and smarts to seduce the male lead, where the two soon fall down a dark path together, usually leading to her demise. Film Noir is very much outside of my aesthetic and comfort zone, but I decided to take the opportunity to challenge myself a bit and try to have a Shangela moment by serving some glamour without any added camp.

This look comes straight from Chanel's closet and brain. I took inspiration from many iconic actresses of the time period for this look. The wig is styled after Hedy Lamarr, and the satin dress is inspired by both Lauren Bacall and Veronica Lake. The dress is snatched at the waist and very form fitting, but yet it's bouncy and airy. Wrinkled and stitched in all of the right places, it gives off the air of regality and richness. On my sharp shoulders is the largest, most extravagant fur you've ever seen, added for extra drama. The shoes (hidden behind a dress that touches the floor but drawn for your viewing pleasure) is a simple pump, and my ears and neck are adorned with simple crystals. In one hand, I hold a long cigarette holder, and in the other, I hold my very own mini-pistol, ready to double-cross my man at any moment. Because film noirs were shot in a time where filmed were black and white, I opted to not color this runway and fully shade everything with pencil to give it an old-timey effect. This was the last runway I came up with and surprisingly managed to whip it up in a short amount of time. It's a relatively simple and understated outfit, but I believe I managed to create a sophisticated and grand look and fully encapsulated what you may envision when you think of "film noir".

***

In the Beach Ball, I was still a drag baby and nearly landed in the bottom. In the PokéBall, I nearly won and shockingly secured a coveted spot in the Top 3. In the Past But Not Least Ball, my looks received a mixed reaction from the panel and audience. With this ball, I hope to gain a positive reception with three looks that I am so very proud of, and earn myself another ticket to a season finale. I managed to survive this week and I can't help but feel proud of myself. I hate to get sappy and annoying, but this game is my sole creative outlet currently and so it has earned a small place in my heart. The portfolio that I've managed to acquire from this game is so strange and weird, but also very satisfying. I hope you all enjoy my looks this week and I hope you manage to like at least one of them.

Shoutout to Chanel, Carbön, and Stone for having the patience and kindness to deal with me and for lending me an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on.
