Well, this is in the Netherlands. Zara has had several huge smashes in Europe, and listeners there really seem to like her. So it makes sense for Spotify to put her high on regional playlists there, and also for her label to aggressively pursue further exposure.

True, but the same song on a playlist twice? And it's not just Europe, she is on the cover of TTH, Symphony is at #4 on it and she even has an album track on it. She is getting a lot of Spotify push.

I mean, her label pushed Lush Life so hard that it cracked the U.S. top 30. :deadbanana: Spotify is definitely where their focus has been

But yeah, this is definitely excessive. :skull:

Sorry, but you do realise it happened the other way around? The Spotify payola came FIRST, the hit songs afterwards.

Zara having the same song twice at the top of a playlist doesn't surprise me to be quite honest. This is what her entire career has been.

Even in the US she gets significant payola. Don't you remember Lush Life being top 50 on US Spotify for about 6 months because it was on SO MANY playlists? People thought it was a sign that it would be a huge hit, but really it was just that it was on so many playlists that there'd obviously be a few hundred thousand people who wouldn't manage/bother to skip it in time even if they didn't want to listen to it.

She's not a pop star who millions of people in Europe independently discovered and grew to love, the real story is that her songs get ENORMOUS promotion and it's pretty difficult to avoid. And really she might get chart hits, but I can't see how they're possibley making money off her because this amount of promotion must cost a lot.

I'm also genuinely worrying how long this is going to last. Is she going to get huge Spotify payola FOREVER (and therefore possibly having a pop career that lasts as long as Spotify remains successful, which could be a long time). Or will her record company at one point chill out a bit and treat her like a normal artist?

Clearly, I came off as a representative from Zara's record label desperately trying to defend the playlist promo that was being discussed. I didn't mean to come across that way.

All I was trying to say was that because she's big in Europe now (I never talked about how she got big), big promo on Spotify for her is justified–though not to the extent of having carbon copies of a song on the same playlist.

Of course I remember the massive promo Lush Life got on Spotify here, and I even mentioned it several posts back. I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I knew that her promo here wouldn't make a difference with regards to its hit potential.

I'm not trying to assign a degree of morality to the screenshot that was posted...

Couldn't it just be a mistake? Does the 'you already have this song on your playlist' box pop up if the song is added from both single and album version? Lush life and Never forget you have wayyyy too many streams considering their hit size

Nnnnn i saw this too,

Symphony needs it to finish Boef, Lil Kleine and Broederliefde (coming tomorrow)

Ugh The Netherlands is getting flooded by both inernational and national rap acts :weeps:

havent really been around lately, but WOW at Kendrick´s much deserved streaming power!!

literally CRUSHING the old daily record on spotify in US with 4 mill for HUMBLE., is the biggest thing since Hello did 2,75 million in october 2015 (regarding how much spotify has grown ever since).

with the massive stats for both J Cole and Kendrick (who´ll surely hold up better tho) i have great hopes for rap :clap3:

This is so sad. I'll pray for her career tbh

sad ? LOL it's not her fault if your fave's manager/label can't afford this. They're doing what needs to establish her as a streaming force. Her album is flopping in pure sales but at the end of the day streams are giving her life on the charts. Her album will be GOLD in the US real soon and platinum in the long run... there's no shame on it. i smell some jealousy as some fave can't even enter or stay more than 2 weeks on TTH.. :cm:

-ELEMENT did more streams than passionfruit did in it's first week. It could debut top ten if this week wasn't so competitive.

- I thought HUMBLE would have slightly more streams.
