brianc33710 Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Country went to 20/20 when the chart was reduced to 60 positions in 2001. 15/20 didn't come around until 2003. I can't edit what I wrote again, so I'm clearing that up here. Also, I wonder if, or more likely when, BB starts using the AC and HAC 3 tiered RC policy on Alternative, AAA, and Active/Mainstream Rock.
dangerousbutera Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Sorry to be off topic but, how high will The Cure get on Spotify? Gaga isn't a big force on Spotify but the song is already #1 in like 50 countries on iTunes so surely it will do quite well on Spotify?

This would split apart the "reals" from the "fakes," allowing songs like Let It Go, which was promoted and getting airplay at AC and HAC (but performed poorly overall at radio), from the album cuts played just a few times during a tracking week. And if a non-promoted track does barely break that threshold for one week, but not the next, it wouldn't rechart until it received the minimum requirements for airplay. And I have no idea why those sentences are highlighted, since I am writing these rules on my phone where I can't copy/paste anything. so again, when track is streamed 3m daily, but has not reached 5M AI, so then shouldn't be charted? even throug 3m daily would be record number streaming, but still no charting? I don't thnk there should be any "you can chart IF" no ifs at all. we have ifs in history and that messed a lot - first example: no doubt's don't speak which reached 16 weeks at #1 radio, but didn't chart at hot 100 because no physical release of single. you idea with airplay AI would work like that - song with record breaking streaming or sales but without airplay would be charting, and that would be mess.
Rico Shameless v2 Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 I think if an album cut amasses something like 15-20m in a week and can chart should. Plus cuts would rarely if ever hit any kind of AI, let alone 5m, after the first couple days. So would be kind of pointless to implement that, skewing the idea the H100 is a popular songs chart, when unsolicited airplay is rare if you aren't Drake/Bey.
Thickorita Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 It's the 100 most popular songs in the country, not the 100 most popular singles If most of them tend to be by one artist, then let them be

If it's not a promoted song radio is giving any airplay, then it's an album cut, not a single. What will start happening, is that they will start releasing these albums with downloads and streaming, on an increasingly regular basis, but the labels Will only promote one or two songs to radio. So, once or twice a month one artist will take over 20% of the Hot 100. Then this will annoy everyone else as much as it does me now, especially when its by artists you don't like. Requiring a minimal amount/threshold of airplay for a song to chart isn't asking for much. As for Don't Speak, physical single sales were very strong in 1996-7. Macarena sold over 4 M copies; OSD, The Crossroads, and California Love/How Do You Want It (double sided single) all sold 2-2.5 M. Many others sold over one million singles. Don't Speak would've probably just barely cracked the Top Ten. I said DS would've reached a little higher than that yesterday before remembering how many big selling singles, 1.5+ M, were on the Hot 100 1995-7. Hootie & The Blowfish had a 15XP selling album that produced four very airplay-heavy hit songs (Top Two on HRS). The band released singles, but because they couldn't get any one single close to Gold, their highest charting hit only hit #6. So, without any sales at all, Don't Speak would've been borderline for just the Top Ten. The one song from Tragic Kingdom that was released as a single, either Just A Girl or Spiderwebs (I've forgotten which after 20+ years) stalled out in the 20s.
