Quick question.

When it comes to certifications, are the streams taken from the US only? So for example. Let's say an artist has 10m spotify streams worldwide but 3m of those streams came from the the US. Would the other 7m be taken into account? Or is that a seperate entity? How is it known where hose streams come from?

Only U.S. streams count towards RIAA certifications.

It is known cause Spotify / Youtube / Apple Music tells the RIAA how many streams are from the US. Some of those numbers are also public. 

 

The Spotify numbers that are posted here are mostly US numbers.

Kygo had never been above #20 before It Ain't Me. And that was mostly due to big playlist exposure anyway because all of his songs up until IAM flopped hard on sales & airplay.

He's had several #1s in Europe. I guess it's because of Selena they are near the top of several charts around the world right now?

I assumed his post was in reference to the update I posted, which shows IAM climbing to #6 on the U.S. Spotify chart.

 

Of course I know that Kygo is massive in Europe. But all of the updates I post are from the U.S. and I think it is pretty clear that my posts are about American charts. Kygo was a complete non-entity here before the song, so I believe it's fair to attribute its success here to Selena.
