The song is unlistenable & her worst lead single. I listened to it twice and can't remember the melody or any lyrics

Thanks for sharing your opinion but it is clearly an unpopular one among most of us and reviewers ❤️

Yeah this is a pretty bad performance. I think she's just had too many flops post flowers to drive much interest in new songs from her. Her other ESV singles underperformed but at least they showed more stability. The low debut is one thing but dropping this much on the second day shows a lack of interest in new Miley singles.

I feel like Miley will always have star power, maybe she doesn't have the immediate pull of a regular A lister but I still would consider her to be one. People would have said she was over before Flowers as well. I wouldn't put her in the same category as Ed for example who feels like a hasbeen just trying to create radio hits. I just don't think this song is strong enough for a lead, the song needs to be undeniable and its not. Also the video is boring, shes been doing the same thing for a while now, it looks exactly like her GRAMMYs performance really. Honestly mostly any of the big stars could bag a hit nowadays if the song, video, narrative all align

ESV outdoing RO

As you can see, it was all smoke and mirrors. :lakitu:  Of course, Flowers was a smash hit (thanks to all the tricks) but ESV is a BOMB. All its certifications, total streams, and chart "longevity" are due to a single song.

The whole album can't even reach 1B without Flowers. None of its other singles even come close to Illusion's performance. But oh ok sis, it seems you'll have to keep riding Flowers' success, because this is doing worse than a RO track.

OP: no autoplay, no ads on youtube, no payola on radio, no fake narratives = this performance. I know Columbia is mad. :sabrina:

Anyway, watch this drop off the charts tomorrow and magically return to the top 80 on Tuesday.

We know how Columbia works

I feel like this is a typical ATRL post which overthinks/overanalyzes a certain situation and wrongly draws conclusions, correlations between a string of underperformances. The GP does not 'lack interest' in new Miley singles - the sound is just off. And this happens with a majority of other artists as well. They don't reject the artist, they reject the single because it is mostly uninteresting. Y'all have to understand that the GP does not have this 'agenda' and they especially don't keep track of underperformances, not even subconciously. (Well, I guess the exception is Katy Perry, the hatred for her new material broke through the standom world.)

Mind you Adele's singles besides Easy on Me tanked and Beyonces besides Texas Hold 'Em. Literally only Harry has benefited from their radio and playlisting bc he literally makes music for the gp unlike these women

How can they reject something they haven't even heard about 😭

That's why I said that, Columbia always drops the bag for the lead singles (+ albums). Even Harry's singles after AIW made no noise and were carried by playlisting and payola.

Yeah but he still benefited with his post lead singles staying on the charts for more than a few weeks lmao

She has never had continuous success if we're being serious so this is not shocking.

She's had several FLOP singles before getting to Flowers. This is casual to her, she'll be fine...

I really do think it comes down mostly to her not touring and making public appearances. Literally none of her peers have gone a decade without touring…

that is so true, unless you pull janet super bowl thing or you age out gp likes you when they like your music and doesn't care when they don't but it's atrl, overreaction is a classic move lol

This is not bad, this is horrendous, holy sh*t. :deadbanana:

Miley's entire career is a chaotic rollercoaster between smashes and flops and one more song added to the latter category means nothing. The album will still do ok and she will remain A-list.

The songs she put out are not single material, necessarily, but they're both better than most of Vacation Forever or whatever the Flowers album was called so that's great. I could tell based on the album trailer she dropped that this won't be a hit-oriented rollout anyway. Maybe something will take off when she drops the album.

this happens when you don't tour and you don't care to create a bond with your fans. In general, not only for the tour part, she gives vibes like she care about her music career even less than Selena Gomez. When you aren't new or fresh anymore is important for people to see you as someone passionate

when was that sis? :skull:

I don't know but the way how Miley introduced this project, it being so high budget and accompanied by a visual album, probably lead me to higher expectations.

Craziest part of all of this is her falling OUT of the UK Spotify chart like that has always been one of her biggest markets. They made her best song ever aka Midnight Sky a top 5 hit and Flowers one of the longest running #1s in the chart's history. Besides that Nothing Breaks Like a Heart and Prisoner were also hits there so this is just insane to me

Miley better call Mark Ronson and Dua Lipa immediately, even if Dua decides to steal from Miley's album again, a hit is still a hit
