does anyone whose heard this album know if it has a narrative? or if it is cohesive in any way?

does it more so sound like a collection of songs / a playlist rather than a fully-fledged put together album?

that was my main issue with high road and i am scared it will happen again 🥲

the problem with High Road is that whatever direction she was initially going in was scrapped in favour of adding several Rainbow outtakes.

  • Honey
  • Birthday Suit (we had a leaked demo for years before HR was announced)
  • Potato Song (i believe was Rainbow as well)
  • Chasing Thunder (we have three demo versions, a worktape and two early versions with one from 2016)
  • Big Bad Wolf (the japanese bonus track)

i think theres at least one or two more that im leaving out but these are what i can remember.

and according to a friend of mine, both Rainbow and High Road tracks were written during her period of not releasing songs after Warrior and Kinky was written for High Road but wasnt initially considered for release .

Listening to the three singles so far back-to-back will give you an answer

even if you take away those tracks, high road does not really have a through line. i'm not saying it has to be entirely cohesive subject matter wise, or even sonically, but the project does not mesh well and doesn't feel like an "album" to me. it's almost like i put a "this is kesha" playlist on spotify on shuffle.

apparently, the album just leaked in full... not sure how true it is, because i am going to wait, but what the... no words.

this is what they're saying on the kesha discord server.

We got 3 singles, 2 leaks and 1 snippet and all 6 songs sound pretty different from each other . . . So . . . I think it's kinda easy to tell the direction this album has, or rather the lack of it :gaycat7:

true, i was in denial and hoping there was a through line in the record, but i guess not.

i'm not a fan of the cover art or album title, and the only single i love is joyride. maybe this era just isn't for me. i loveddd gag order tho!

still pre-ordered a signed vinyl to support my girl tho!

I hate when albums just have a bunch of songs that sound the same. Leave that **** to Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpets and post NFR Lana Del Rey.

People with a refined pallet can appreciate an album with diversity like Mayhem, The Loneliest Time, and Kesha's upcoming album because sonically it's interesting and serves a variety of moods and sounds.

I couldn't agree more.

The people who keep saying that they wanted "more songs like Joyride" are honestly missing the fact that Kesha has never been that kind of an artist.

She is never gonna stay in one lane even if it's well-received. The Kesha brain is messy and chaotic and it is also many things at the same time. It's one of the reasons why she has so much personality.

She kinda has a pattern…

Animal - very thought out album

Warrior - rushed collection of songs

Rainbow - very thought out album

High Road - random collection of songs

Gag Order - very thought out album

Period - :sabrina:

I'm really scared after our trusted insiders are soft launching the news that Period is going to be a mess

The review from the German music site I shared wrote: "The songs? Totally different, sometimes loud, sometimes quiet, sometimes sad, sometimes totally crazy" and gave it 7/8 points :coffee2:.

The cover would be a SERVE without the pink dot imo.

Nah, I think the random pink dot gives it a nice touch :gaymuscat:

Excited! I hope there are more Joyrides on the album :duca:

I would've preferred it to be titled "period" rather than just a literal period but whatever I don't mind it too much

I like it as "." because it is symbolic for Kesha. It's kinda like a continuation of the whole "Gag Order" thing that she started.

Plus, it can be taken as "let the music speak for itself" or something :gaycat1:

I agree.

Initially, I thought the dot looks like an outlier on the mouth and doesn't fit.

Then someone posted the mouth without the dot and it looked totally generic, something was missing.

I think it's a serve when you have the pink vinyl and it looks just like the dot on the cover.

What I love about "." as opposed to "Period" is that it looks different from all her other album titles because it's not a word.

It fits to this era being different from all her previous ones since she is free now.

I think they are trying to do something what brat did.

Basically having the whole marketing campaign based on color (pink) and this case also a symbol "dot"

Right? I really don't get it. The whole thing that sets Kesha apart is how diverse her talents are and how varied her music is. I don't know why people are acting brand new as if this hasn't always been the case with her music. She's forever done different sounds and I can't imagine her not, it's something she has always signified artistically.

I'm sorry, but her new songs just make me listen to "Animal" and cry. And it's not like I don't wanna support her, I really do, I love her.

Okay, I just listened to "Joyride", "Yippee-ki-yay" and "Delusional" and I changed my mind, I'm a stan.

The fandom also has a pattern...

*very personal and introspective album* = we want old ke$ha party girl glitter keshussy back

*attempt at ke$ha throwback sound* = wait... but it's not very genuine :rainy:
