Most of Brat's understated moments were culled pretty early on, but we really had to give credit to the best of the bunch. What a beautiful track this is. Even from the opening beats, it just feels so luxe. Like a track you could just... sink into~ The lyrics here are so simple and evocative. The picture of a romantic and sometimes even tacky vacation is painted in the finest strokes. The softer side of Charli. I love the change up from verbose sentences to simple sentiment: the song spends so much time describing every little detail of the scene before it finally climaxes and devolves into the repeated "fall in love again and again" chant, as if we too were falling with her. Just bliss. Adore.

Meloetta Carey: "I kind of need Brat: an Electropopera now."

Curaga: "I would feel dumb not giving this a 10 since it seems kinda like a big accomplishment in sound design in her catalog even if I don't consider it one of my absolute favs from brat.."

Invisibility: "The most ambitious and intriging Charli song in forever (and, probably, since forever [2020])."

Moonlight Nation: "The production work is sublime. Such a gorgeous song perfectly encapsulating the different intensities of passion and romance."

My girl. :penguin: Just like in real life, Tinashe falls short of the heights that the other women reached... but we know she still reigns supreme in our hearts. Nasty was not a hit out of the gate at all, this is what we call a slow burn. Released in early 2024, Nasty was decently received by the Nashe fans but made no big waves. But all it took was one nerdy twink gyrating his hips to this song to make Tik Tok erupt in Tinashe stanning, the likes of which we had not seen in a decade!

stantwt-tinashe-nasty.gif

Fun fact: that was a fan edit, he wasn't originally dancing to Nasty. We'll take the viral hit tho!

Regardless, hit or not, Nasty is a good old sex bop. Something that even Janet would be grinding her Republican puss to these days. One of those songs that is just laden with hooks. Each verse, pre-chorus, post-chorus etc. just seems to bop more than the last part of the song. It was so satisfying to see Tinashe get even a modicum of GP love after all this time, and despite what some bitter fans might say... this was a track well-deserving of the praise!

Meloetta Carey: "I kind of wish it just started with the hook but that might make the reptitive and monotonous allegations even worse."

Rev8: "As a Tinashe fan, it's sad to see that an Okay T song is getting viral when there are so many amazing songs in her discography... many."

Ewan Chaos: "So deserving that this ended up being a decent hit for her, even if it deserved to be even bigger!"

Moonlight Nation: "Guaranteed to become a 2020s R&B classic in my view. 'is somebody gonna match my freak?' made for one of the best trends of 2024, and the whole song is beyond catchy."

What does one say about the ubiquity of Hot To Go? I heard the chorus of this song on Instagram reels long before I even knew what a Chappell Roan was. The simple choreography and chanting chorus was engineered in a lab to be a hit, and hit it did. This was a song that even the kids were singing along to, doing their little Britney arm-ography. Work little divas.

Despite that, it is actually outside of the chorus where the song truly shines. Yes, the chorus is what makes it a hit... but the verses are what makes it such a great song. That underrated tension bubbling throughout... the sexual desire on the tip of Chappell's tongue. The whole thing has a hot yearning to it, frustration and passion intertwined. It's brilliant. And a little bit adult for the kiddies! Oh well, somebody get Kidz Bop on the case here.

Ewan Chaos: "I initially didn't care for this song, but after a few listens it just CLICKED and makes sense why it's the biggest from the album. Also I know the vid director lmaooooooo."

Invisibility: "The lesbian YMCA, how can I not stan?"

Moonlight Nation: "Nothing but the utmost respect for the 21st century "YMCA". Love the ABBA influences here and Chappell's belting her heart out."

The jutting synths that open this track have to be one of the best openings to any track in this rate. So callous and cold, a perfect fit for a song dealing with such insecurity and doubt. Yes, not a Taylor diss track as many of the (ironically) illiterate swifties seemed to claim. If anything, it's a self-diss by Charli. I gues we should be thankful for the extra streams by those sleuthing Taylor fans though. Either way, what a triumph of a song. The way she's repeating events in her head, letting her intrusive thoughts just spill out so plainly... and that the entire song kind of sounds like an alarm going off? Genius work. No notes.

Rev8: "Can't believe Ariana made it worse."

Curaga: "The exaggerated clap sounds... That thumping synth... Welcome to the Hall of XCX Stone-Cold Classics, among the ranks of party 4 u, Gone, Backseat, etc."

Ewan Chaos: "Why. I. Wanna buy a cum. Why. I. Wanna shoot myself."

Invisibility: "Every tongue that rises against Taylor shall prosper. Let me live in a fantasy world where Ratty Healy was colateral from this song instead of appearing on the remix album."

Moonlight Nation: "So powerful and raw lyrically, perfectly complemented by the aggressive production. It was a great introduction to the more vulnerable elements of the album, which are explored further on the following track."

Sabrina has been through a lot in this rate, but despite it all she still managed to scrape on through and claim a top five placement. Well done, queen. I admit that I initially didn't think much of Espresso, just seeing it as yet another Say So soundalike. But I think it's charms become more apparent on repeat listens, and if 2024 was good at one thing it was making you listen to Espresso :rip: Whether on radio, Spotify autoplays or what have you. I'm not mad at it. They wanted to make her a STAR with this single, and looking at how the rest of the year went they clearly succeeded.

It's that awesome combination of a genuinely good and catchy pop tune and enough personality in the lyrics to make it stand out of the crowd. To make the singer have something of an identifiable personality to the listening audience. It really took over my brain over the summer. The way I would be doing random things and "i'm working late, cus i'm a singer" would pop into my brain. or the ex line. or even just "...now he's~". They put some crack into this song, I swear.

Curaga: "Not a personal 10, but I fully understand why this became a hit! So catchy and funky!"

Ewan Chaos: "So mad this didn't hit #1 (or even #2!) here in the States. I'm so glad she & her team were able to craft this incredible song after 5 albums of trash. She deserves the massive year she's had for this song alone."

Ken Lee: "Perhaps the worst big hit of recent memory. Annoying, unoriginal, nonsensical. Truly no redeeming qualities."

Invisibility: "It feels right to be the biggest song in the world this year."

Moonlight Nation: "While I don't think it's best-of-the-decade material - even among mainstream hits - it's an undeniably well-crafted pop tune. Sabrina and her team did what had to be done here, making for an iconic summer hit."

Very easy to dismiss this as another hedonistic party girl anthem, but what raises 365 above basic bop is the utterly demonic turn the song takes in the latter half. When the party takes an unfortunate turn. When this night out goes down a bleak rabbit hole and you can't remember where your friends are... or your way home... or your name. Mmm, I love a demented Charli album closer! Taking what could be a really simple "hehe, we're doing coke ;)" song and then turning that into a bad trip? Oooh, her mind. The way the album closer is a dark reprise of the album opener... the theater kid teas. The production on this song might be the best across all of Brat, really. I think so!

So glad two of you queens could join me in the hot girl 11 club.

Rev8: "I feel like this is another Vroom Vroom moment for her..the change, it's so evil, she killed it."

Curaga: "Using a new vocal first over the 360 instrumental and then making it work over that Benny Benassi tribute instrumental too... Her fuckiing mind :jonny4: "

Ewan Chaos: "I think I may consider this her best song now? Everything about this is perfect to me- the tie to 360, the lyrics, the fact that it comes right after I Think... In the tracklist, the two drops (especially the last one), it's just everything to me!"

Invisibility: "Instantly joining the pantheon of perfect 3-day bender style closers by Charli, where visions and Track 10 also sit."

Moonlight Nation: "The way it revisits "360" until it gradually shifts into the 365 party girl intensity was absolute genius. An excellent closer for an excellent album."

The opening track to Brat, and what might be Charli's signature song going forward? It certainly feels that way! It's so Juliaher. This brilliant pop song that just exists over a rather simple, yet infectiously catchy, SNES-sounding melody. Like the older, more mature sister to Von dutch... while that song was more angry and ****-talking, this one is more self-assured and comfortable. It's a strutting song for sure. Put it on as you leave home and watch as your pace picks up and you start giving Top Model walk teas. I don't know if it's possible to listen to this song and not get a confidence boost. Work angles indeed.

Though it was overshadowed by Apple and Guess during the era itself, I think 360 is the one that's really going to stand the test of time. Bookmark me, little Gabriettes!

Curaga: "Her branding here is craaaaazy. She absolutely killed it making this not only the intro to the album but kinda the embodiment of BRAT altogether."

Ewan Chaos: "While not my favorite on the album, it will always hold a special place in my heart for helping propel the era to the great heights it reached."

Invisibility: "The beat is way too infectious, that I really can't stream just once when I put it on. She's bragging all the way throughout, but the playful synth grounds her to make a perfectly balanced track."

Moonlight Nation: "Despite the strong competition, this is my favourite album opener of the rate. I adore Charli's effortless confidence here. There couldn't be a better introduction to "BRAT" sonically or lyrically."

I don't get the raves for Nasty, she has so many better songs. Thirsty & When I Get You Alone for example.

Would have panned it as well if I participated. :fan:
