All in all she's only 21, I just don't find the age excuse all that relevant. Bruno Mars was born in 1985 but still regularly draws influences from artists like Michael Jackson, Earth Wind & Fire and Kool & The Gang, all who peaked before he was alive. Beyoncé's two biggest female influences are Diana Ross and Tina Turner, both of whom also peaked before she was born, yet somehow growing up in the 80s and 90s they were still able to learn and be influenced.

i'm a year older than her so i understand why she's trying to say, when she was a pre-teen/teenager pop girls like ariana and selena were becoming really popular and they were very active. not to mention she knew them already when they were on disney/nickelodeon

The sounded promising on the paper, but ended up being rather uneventful (like pretty much everything Ariana ever did live (and I am saying this as a huge fan)).

 

It really is somewhat sad how pop culture pretty much died in the early 10s.

She didn't say she didn't know them, but mentioned stuff that happened in real time as moments she remembers. She was not going to cite Slumber Party and Accelerate as core memories.
