but I should say err on the side of caution with his first 2-3 albums lol the actual music is well produced considering how young he was, if rather dark, and the lyrical skill is there but he was an "edgy" teenager when those albums were written and the lyrics can be quite immature at best and disturbing at worst.... he doesn't really start to come of age until Wolf-Cherry Bomb. And then Flower Boy was a full maturation and so on and so forth.

That was what kind of turned me off of him lowkey :deadbanana: back in the day when ODD FUTURE was a thing there was a certain group of people who listened to him and I lowkey hated all of them sdjdjdjdj they were annoying and the music was just trash so :dies:I listened to bits and pieces of Flower Boy though! Teezo's next album about to crush buildings. I need Tyler to have a beat placement on it.

Hey Jane blew me away. Tylers pen has improved to the point he's clearly one of the best out.

He's low-key been one of the best out lyrically for a while now imo but he doesn't get his flowers in this area. Part of that is because he himself downplays his lyrical skill so much to the point people forget to rank him as an emcee. I think he downplays so much because he was always afraid of being seen as "just a rapper" when he was younger when he does virtually everything. Prolly the closest thing to a true blue auteur in hip-hop.

It's because while lyrics may be good, a lot of it wasn't rapping, really. Igor ain't even a Rap album. He had to make an album with him rapping on to get noticed like that and I think he knows it too since this album voices some frustration with him not being looked at the same way.

I'm still spinning this ****, help lol. It's already in my top 10 albums of the year.

I wonder how he's gonna perform certain songs like Hey Jane, Tomorrow, Take Your Mask Off and especially Tell Him. I guess with the St. Chroma mask?

He's rapping in 80% of his music tho. FB was the first album where the rapping became sort of sparse and then it was little to none on Igor. He got back to spitting on CMIYGL.

True I didn't explain what I mean well. His performance on this album specifically songs like Thought I Was Dead and Sticky etc,. Basically a more traditional rap performance was kinda needed. That doesn't effect me personally but some people legit forgot Tyler is nice as a rapper :rip: CMIYGL is fire too. Hopefully this album aids in opening up the narrative about him.

People have a tendency to disregard "alt hip hop" rappers as emcees because of their rap style and I wish it didn't happen. Tyler held his own on a track with Griselda, Joey Badass and even Earl...dude is nice lol. He's had a good pen even since "She" days but Hey Jane is just crazy to me.

I liked CMIYGL but this definitely feels like it's completing a trilogy with Flower Boy and Igor in terms of its sonic and narrative approach. It's so raw and untethered, I'm so fascinated by the lyricism and his approach, there's so much more to dig into. It feels like another instant classic for him :jonny:

Yea, they do. It wasn't until recent times that rappers were allowed to be artsy and still be mainstream. Before Kanye and even during the early days of Kanye, a rapper that was deemed too artsy or non-trendy in their approach were relegated to the alternative fringes of hip-hop.

And yes, his pen is nice and he even nice without it. Lettuce not forget that he's prolly one of the very few in his gen. that can actually freestyle off the dome. NO previously written bars. Said he wrote his first rap at the age of 7 and start battling kids on the playground at 12 and that amount of experience definitely shows.

I reckon if T acted more serious in OF days, would he be seen in the same light as Dot and Cole by this point? Shid for my money, Tyler the real 3rd in the Big 3, not Drake goober ass lol

Tyler has always been far better than Drake to me.

Honestly at this point, the big 3 narrative needed to die because it's been 10+ years and when we start looking at catalogs... Too many rappers been putting out quality work to continue being ignored because of some made up blog era "big 3" narrative. Rappers like Tyler, Big Krit, Vince Staples, etc,. Dudes who got multiple fire albums, really spitting, giving sonic and thematic diversity for us to keep boosting mediocrity lol. I don't think you should have to present your work a certain way to be held in certain convos, I wish more people didn't.

Lemme order the Chromakopia CD box set. I gotta support people not giving me McDonalds raps.
