Is LA the worst place on EARTH?

Recommended Posts

I'm a New Yorker so I kinda like whacking LA a little but it's far from the worst place on Earth. :rip:

Cities like LA get a lot of **** but there's a reason these big U.S. cities have a high standard of living and continuously attract people decade after decade. The socieconomic and sociopolitical upsides of big cities alone make things like rents, homelessness, tourism, transportation, etc. tolerable for residents.

It's totally valid if LA isn't your scene but people who go straight to the "sh*thole" or "hellscape" angle for major cities they personally don't like are so corny.

I grew up there and it's changed a lot. Places that used to be cool and interesting are now overrun by influencers/Youtubers and by default aren't as cool anymore. Old buildings/restaurants/homes were bought out or died because of insane pricing and were replaced by soulless hospital building looking apartment complexes. Homelessness out of control (Santa Monica in particular is unrecognizable), terrible traffic, and a downtown nobody goes to. I'll probably only move back to certain areas if a job was worth it enough. I prefer the OC now.

But because it's so spread out there's still a lot of fun areas. Pasadena, Burbank, Silver

Lake, Melrose, Griffith, Runyon Canyon, Malibu, Hollywood Reservoir, Westwood, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, etc. are all places where the vibe hasn't completely died. When I visit I just stick to those places, and sometimes go to the valley. The only "fake" part of LA is West Hollywood, but at least Santa Monica Blvd still has charm unlike Sunset.

As an LA native I can tell you with certainty that the transplants that complain about people being, narcissistic and fake are almost always talking about themselves. Like attracts like. They say the city is full of fake people but I literally grew up there and practically never had to deal with them so what is the truth.gif

Clock it.

It's really all about who you surround yourself with.

Honestly, it's been my dream all my life to live in LA or somewhere in California even if i have to work in menial jobs. I don't know why, but there's been something drawing me to that place ever since I was a kid, even before I knew about the world of celebrities and all that frenzy. :siptea: I remember hearing California and gettin Goosebumps! What if my life partner is on there LMFAO.

I also love to visit places in the city on Google Street View all the time. My latest "trip" was to Mulholland Drive. Cute mediterranean landscapes :gaycat4:
Randomly surfing that huge Megalopolis-Metropolis.

In fact, I have a blog with all the places I'd like to visit there, like filming locations of shows, movies, or music videos. Nature places.  Historical. Thousands of them.
I'm also in love with California's beaches—places like Malibu-The Pacific Coast Highway are insane.
They're the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. All of them :loki:

The neighborhoods too—I love the architectural style of many businesses in Los Angeles. They're so lush and sophisticated.
The palm trees or beautiful diverse flora-gardens of the city.
I wanna eat in In-N-Out Burguer and if one day i get rich-millionarie im goin to NOBU :gaycat5:

I've never been out of my country, and I want my first vacation spot to be LA. It's something I'm planning as soon as I start working. I've even thought about paying for a trip to study English for 1-2 months. :gaycat2:  Everyone here in my country is dying to visit Europe but im honestly more in love with the States. California is Expensive AF. So i need some good savings :gayliecat1:

The only thing I don't like is the traffic. LA really needs a good public transportation system. That's probably the one thing I dislike about the U.S.—there aren't many buses or easy ways to get around. Thats annoying.  I dont like driving :emofish: :chick3:  Also, the gangs scare me a bit.  I know the place is sketchy in many ways, but I still want to go. After all, I live in a third-world country, so I'm already used to being in dangerous criminal places all the time. :gaycat6:

So Cal/Hermosa California :gaycat3:

Aw, do not let me discourage you. I will say, LA is absolutely gorgeous rough neighborhoods and all. If you like the openness, daily beautiful weather, this will be for you! I've gone to Malibu recently and it was very serene and peaceful and driving along PCH, the view was to die for. It really is once in a lifetime kind of views and my friend who visited me despite having travelled far much more than me even said the view could not be beat. Find a neighborhood for you and you will have a nice stay. I didn't know much of the neighborhoods prior to moving but if I were to move here again I'd definitely move to Silver Lake or Los Feliz. If you are used to 'danger' I think you'll be alright, just have a sense of awareness.

In N Out is also worth the hype, lol.

My brother is livin-settled in Arkansas right now (Legally) so there's a chance it will be easier to visit some American Cities in the future.
Need some self-character-development first in the next 2-3 years :zsgaymuscat:

And dont worry. Im aware LA is not a paradise. I get your complains
It can be hell sometimes.....
is honestly crazy how the richest country in the planet has so many bad situations :gaycat6:
Yll should be thriving

But yes......im ready to sanitize the place and help to erase all the bad things :gaycat2:

These are beautiful for sure, especially passed Topanga Canyon (another great place) and more towards Malibu Country Mart area but if you want truly gorgeous beaches I'd head down south to Laguna Beach or Corona Del Mar. Or up north to Santa Barbara, Carmel by the Sea, Santa Cruz. LA beaches can't compete. That's the one thing I miss most about where I live now is the weather and constant access to the beach :rip:

I live here and will always love it with all my heart, but I also fully understand why people don't. It's really a "if you get it you get it" kind of thing

I know a lot of great ppl in LA but I can't live somewhere where you have to drive everywhere. That's why I stay here in Vancouver and fly down there when I have to.

I do like going to LA, and I usually have fun. But I also enjoy leaving it.

I loveeee Vancouver. I was in Seattle last weekend, and I enjoyed it more than I usually do, but I always love going further north.

It seems like you don't know much about the world if you think LA is the worst place on Earth :coffee:

But I agree. It seems like a very artificial and self absorbed place to live.

The weather is amazing. I've only been to Santa Monica (multiple times) and Venice Beach and it isn't terrible.

But i'm not a local so maybe there's stuff Idk about (very likely).

LA is terrifying. As someone who has lived in Canada and the UK (both of which have their own problems), visiting LA is a reminder of how safe I feel walking down the street in both Toronto and London. I've been followed, screamed at, and genuinely felt incredibly uneasy several times in LA. No functional public transport infrastructure, abject poverty and homelessness (and subsequent drug use), seeing people urinating and defecating on the streets, neighbourhoods being separated by highways making it unwalkable... Don't get me wrong, West Hollywood is great and I love the weather and the beach, but it feels like it's all smoke and mirrors there and I'm always so relieved to get out!

I visited LA years ago and it wasn't that bad. The worst part was the traffic. I loved being there. It's not the worst city place. The Middle East is the WORST!
