Katy was only bigger from 2012-4, I say this as a die hard of both. Even during the height of TD when Katy was getting better numbers, Gaga's grip on the culture was at the level of Taylor Swift's in 2024.

lol katy is flopping

In 2018 it was pretty clear for anyone versed in pop culture that Gaga's career was going to end up bigger than Katy's in every sense. 2020 sealed the deal. 2024 is the year were even Gaga's biggest haters and Katy's biggest supporters alike have no choice but to admit it.

Not to mention Gaga's downfall made headlines. No one cares or knows about Katy's downfall in the GP. They just forgot about her. Gaga's made noise.

Probably ASIB and Witness

In 2008 when she released Just Dance

and Katy was never bigger than Gaga.

Even katy's first 3 albums combined failed to outsell TFM back in the day.

People just used katy for couple songs and then let her go.

Gaga was always ahead of Katy.

Gaga was never behind. Katy was just bigger than her for a few years (mainly the 'PRISM' years), but that was never enough for Katy to be bigger than Gaga overall at any point.

Rise was the end of an era of Katy Perry hits let's be real. So 2016. Ironically the song Rise became her fall down.

Another Katy vs Gaga thread

Objectively the "bigger" (who was dominating charts/radio at the moment) artist was

Before December 2008 - Katy Perry

Between December 2009 and May 2010 - Lady Gaga

Between May 2010 and February 2011 - Katy Perry*

Between February 2011 and May 2011 - Lady Gaga

Between June 2011 and February 2015 - Katy Perry

2015 Suber Bowl - 2017 Super Bowl Lady Gaga

Parts of 2017: Katy Perry

After Feels dies off: Mostly Lady Gaga **

*Before anyone comes for me, I am talking about who was dominating the charts and radio at the time. Yes, they both had breaks in between these moments, which gave space for the other.

** After 2017, they both took breaks, but LG was much more active and bigger on charts/radio. KP's depression and large gaps hit her hard (her mental health and career.) She's had some moments in the sun post-2017. We can't ignore NRO and HIW going viral. Even if her music is not nearly as successful, you cannot deny her star power. Hell, she went viral for a fake AI image at the Met Gala she didn't attend. :rip: Any time she says something remotely unbefitting, it also go virals. If she was truly a "has been" we would not care she tweeted about a cyber truck. We wouldn't be see the 1,000 threads a day about her. No one would even think to ask "Who had the bigger music career Ashlee Simpson or Adele?"

It's not 2009 or 2013 anymore. Let's grow up a little bit. I am pretty sure both hate the constant comparisons.

Gaga was always the more talented, acclaimed and versatile of the two and the only advantage that Katy had was her streak of big hits during TD and Prism, which I suspect had more to do with her songwriters and producers being more talented in that department than her. :marshmallow:

Artistically? Akways. Commercially? When Katy's comeback single Rise barely managed to outpeak Gaga's flop comeback Perfect Illusion
