I think Reputation was brilliant, Lover was pretty good (too many songs), Folklore and Evermore was a peak. Midnights was pretty good but TTPD was a boring and overrated album.
Storm653 Posted September 2 Posted September 2 (edited) Hot take but I DO think TTPD was an artistic risk for Taylor. Maybe not sonically but definitely lyrically. She's never been as openly vulnerable in an album before. It's ironically one of her most mature albums to date outside the "Folkmore" duo which is why it's funny when people claim that "teenage girls" are responsible for its success. To answer the question, Taylor much like Beyonce is here to stay for a while. She might have her highs and lows and she already had her "low point" in 2016-2019 where she was a "snake" and dropped Rep and Lover which were just as polarizing as Midnights and TTPD today. But she's very calculated and knows how to bounce back. Taylor's not going to have a "Bionic/Smile" level flop anytime soon. And even her so-called "bad" albums have tons of great songs in them that are able to keep people interested in her. You gotta remember too that pop fans on social media don't reflect casual music fans. Even the Swifty snark sub on Reddit, TravisandTaylor, is scrambling around trying to find things to drag Taylor for while losing its own hype just like SwiftlyNeutral did. Taylor's doing fine and Rep(TV)'s gonna smash. Edited September 2 by Storm653 4
theREALslimSHADY Posted September 3 Posted September 3 (edited) I think she is in complete control of her career. She clearly has the kind of musical talent and instinct that doesnt fizzle out after a few years and has the mind of a mastermind when it comes to business decisions. As long as she continues to push herself and go the extra mile every few albums to deliver quality (ala 1989, folklore), i think she can do this forever. My prediction is that TS12 will be another polarising album and then TS13 (which will most likely get released towards the end of this decade) will be her next 1989/Folklore. Storm653 Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Also, what's with this trend of attributing Taylor's success solely to Swifties? Do you guys not realize that streaming in general is fanbase driven regardless of the artist? You think soccer moms and grandmas who don't listen to new pop are lining up to buy albums from Sabrina Carpenter and Billie Eilish just because they heard Expresso on the radio while shopping at Trader Joe's? That's always a weird criticism towards Taylor. Obviously, we're in a post-monoculture music world which means that most of our faves have fanbase driven sales and streams. I don't know a soul in my parents' country(Panama) who are aware of Cowboy Carter's existence because they primarily listen to Latin music. Does that mean Beyonce's success should be discredited? Honestly, it feels like a Hail Mary to use against Taylor since her sales are objectively stronger than everyone else's. People can bring up variants but practically everyone is dropping variants these days. In fact, Travis Scott is currently being more desperate with his push to go number 1 than Taylor.
Don Posted September 4 Posted September 4 she can fall down by 50% and still be the biggest popstar by miles
chiliam Posted September 4 Posted September 4 a mini downfall lead to the tickets for next tour a bit easier would be the goal. But she has been through like 50 different backlashes, like even the GP is getting tired of lashing her and just give in and admit oh this girl is a harmless celeb and make some cute songs.
