Dear Reader Posted August 26 Posted August 26 oh I wasn't expecting them to give it such a high score but slay
Sad Beautiful Tragic Posted August 26 Posted August 26 8.0? Was this reviewed by one of her fans? Pitchfork usually hits the mark with their reviews, but it seems like their integrity might be slipping a bit here 1
JoeAg Posted August 26 Posted August 26 it's a very solid pop album, but it's ENTIRELY beyond me how the new Magdalena Bay album has a lower score than this that's just so bewildering, it's two entirely different levels of goodness. this is a good pop album, but it's void of any big risks. Imaginal Disk is an incredible pop album, which stretches the boundaries of what pop in 2024 can be, in a similar vein as Charli's Brat. Short n Sweet is more comparable to something like Fearless, which is very nice but not challenging or progressive (and as a fan of Taylor's music, she indeed does have other more progressive-minded albums) it's bizarre to me, but congrats to Sabrina 7
Delirious Posted August 26 Posted August 26 8....dont get me wrong i LOVE sabrina and i stanned her way way way back but...8? It's max of 7 imo 1
KatyPrismSpirit Posted August 26 Posted August 26 8 oh wow id say she deserves the praise because the album is solid and skipless, but at the same time how is this an 8 when HMHAS was "only" a 6.8 6

Whatever the case, it's a great pop album from beginning to end, so everyone can seethe. We should see this as a positive since so many reviews prior to 2015 were drenched in negativity towards pop itself and at times very misogynistic. 1

Mikeymoonshine Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Yeah it's definitely an inflated score from them. This is a 7 at best I'd actually give it more like a 6.5. That's not a bad score and it's not a bad album but there's nothing amazing about it, it's safe and Pitchfork have given much better albums lower scores.

Well, that's just your subjective opinion. Mine would be that as much as I love Blackout, there are other metrics that I'd use to review an album as a whole. I can listen to Short n' Sweet front to back without skipping, but couldn't say the same about Blackout, despite all of its highlights and it being a strong body of work. But I wouldn't compare either album in the first place because they both convey completely different moods, vocal stylings, and subject matter. 1

brraap Posted August 26 Posted August 26 I'm sorry but there's no way nice to know that generic lyrics and antonoff one note production gets you an 8
KillingYourCareer Posted August 26 Posted August 26 This album is completely empty in contents, it has zero vocal presence, it's completely vanilla... and Sabrina isn't convincing us that there's some artistic statement to it as everyone else has been doing for their mediocre project. This lightness is what makes Short n' Sweet so enjoyable and fresh among many pretentious projects that are no better than this. It deserves the positive reviews. 3
sneakyishere Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Are you kidding me? I guess there's room for literally anyone to get a good PF score nowadays
