If you were to ask anyone on the streets they would agree except for diehard stans like the gays on this website. Adele's talent to emote and move people with her voice is the reason she became the biggest artist in the world. It's an innate gift that not everyone has! 5

There's more to being a vocalist than whistle notes Yeah, and only a deluded atrl fan (ironically with an avi of a person whose entire voice was completely inspired by Mariah and is on record saying she's the greatest ever) would think Mariah was limited to whistle notes. and there's plenty of commentary by trained vocal experts online that you can peruse. At that level of greatness it often comes down to subjectivity. Adele, however, is not at that level. Edited August 3 by suburbannature 1

Elusive Chanteuse Posted August 4 Posted August 4 No but she is a great singer. Mariah and Whitney also didn't get as many chances as Adele does. She is often very pitchy and not the best technique.
Mandalay Posted August 4 Posted August 4 The way Mariah knows exactly how to approach a song and really has the ability to back it up even in her worst days. She knows how to sound heartsick (WBT, Without You), joyous (Fantasy, Emotions), funky (Your Girl, Cool on you), sober (Hero, When you believe) and I can go on and on. She knows exactly what to do with each written syllable and melody. The same with Whitney. Question for OP: Can Adele sing 'Fantasy' or 'My name is not Susan' as good as the two, and I'm not talking about the range which she obviously doesn't have. I'm directly talking about the ability to interpret the lyrics as they are written. 2
Alldeezy Posted August 4 Posted August 4 uh ... no .. def not. Adele could never hit those Mariah notes
Baegalme Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Emotional connection is subjective. Tbh Whitney's voice moves me more than Adele ever will. adele is quite overrated as a vocalist btw 2
lonnie Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Nowhere near, and that's okay. She's a good singer, but she doesn't come close to what Whitney and Mariah could do with their voices in their respective primes.
Rv1709 Posted August 4 Posted August 4 I think Kelly Clarkson is better than all - emotive with range and gymnastics
50thStateofMind Posted August 6 Posted August 6 (edited) not even close to either one...seriously... that doesn't make her a bad singer by ANY means, but she does not compare whatsoever. not even in the most subjective category of all...emoting...Whitney was a far superior emoter imo. Støned Posted August 6 Posted August 6 C'mon, I love Adele too, but don't get her dragged like this Adele is one of the mainstream singers nowadays with great vocals (alongside Ariana, Gaga, Bey) but they cannot compare to the vocal trinity. Mariah, Whitney, and even Celine were on a different level vocal-wise.
LikeATattoo Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Objectively, Adele doesn't even occupy the same planet as Whitney or Mariah. If you subjectively feel more emotion from her singing than either Whitney's or Mariah's then that's another thing.

And LOL @ you saying this with an avi of someone whose career wouldn't exist without Mariah. Edited August 6 by LikeATattoo
GraceRandolph Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Is this topic for real? Adele isn't even a better vocalist than Azealia Banks.
LikeATattoo Posted August 6 Posted August 6 My goodness. This thread is really trying to make me get homophobic. Geez.
LikeATattoo Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Adele isn't a Mount Rushmore female vocalist for her own generation LOL. She isn't even the best British female vocalist of her time lmao 2
MoonRage Posted August 6 Posted August 6 I don't think she is a better vocalist than Mariah or Whitney. They are all great singers to me, especially Whitney. This is my favorite video analysis that explains her vocals. 1

You listen to Janet who is from the 80s and hasn't been popular for many decades, so I understand you're not used to modern day opinions. If I feel nothing from Mariah's voice it means I feel nothing! Period. Mariah cannot emote well but she has an impressive voice from a technical standpoint (or used to before her voice declined) and I have never denied that. Adele not only has a great emotive voice she also writes heartfelt songs that people resonate with. Not everyone has that! Certainly not Whitney who had songs written for her. So you literally guessed from thin air I'm not a "modern day music listener" because I have a Janet Jackson pfp, hm, okay. Why do you feel you're superior when you literally listen to that Céline Dion-wannabe "Let It Go" singer? 1

Not sure listening to Katy Perry and Adele, who both peaked more than a decade ago counts as modern day music listener, sweetie. Also, you brought up Mariah and Whitney who are both from the 80s and early 90s so you are exposing your own ignorance, "modern day music listener". 1
