Would you go for the legend (Madonna) or the newcomer (Mariah)? The collabo game was different in the (early) 90s. Mariah was either the lead or co-lead in the 90s because she was literally the bigger star or equally as big as her duet partners. Her collabos in the 90s were duets btw... not features. Mariah has had 10 GREAT selling eras (9 of them in a row) and yet they make her seem as if she flopped in year 2 of her career and vanished into oblivion only to be miraculously saved by a Xmas jingle. Mariah was a hit making machine for 20 years out of the 34 years that she's now been actve. However, in the past 6 years she's not released a new album. And the change in the music industry basically shuns artists over 40 now. It's impossible to get any substantial hits. It's the same way for Madonna. The digital era was a little more forgiving and ageism is getting to new heights in the streaming era. But even today, Madonna and Mariah are getting quite decent numbers. That Weekend collabo has amazing numbers. But the main draw was The Weekend, not Madonna - otherwise her solo material would get better numbers. SAME for Mariah ofc. Collabos with hot acts get numbers... their solo material is only used by their respective bases. They shine most via their catalogue which gets good streaming for catalogue music. Madonna has like 4 or 5 songs above 400m streams. Mariah has 3 - about to get 4. Their albums are now getting to 1 billion streams. Mariah is doing a little bit better on that metric. Mariah has 3 albums at 1 billion. Madonna currently 0, but her first one is only a couple of weeks away and her 2nd one will also happen in 2024. I just dislike this huge animosity. As for Janet: Her team / labels hasn't invested in streaming whatsoever so far. It's a disgrace and she deserve to be up there with them. Nobody with a brain would denounce her impact bc label politics prevents her from collecting decent streaming numbers. If people are indeed that gullible and denounce her legacy and artisty, then they are showing their lack of education and bad taste.
