I think she would've done really well either going down a ballad route or a pop rock one (I'm thinking of her X-Factor audition when she sang You Oughta Know by Alanis). Based on what she's said so far and what we've heard, it's all feeling a bit...generic. Like how can you have been in the industry for 10+ years and your attempt at "finding your sound" is writers camp demos. I know she claims she enjoys writing but her first song was an Ed Sheeran pen, and her team bought Tears off another artist. The decisions Perrie is making currently will be pushed by her management. FAU underperformed, there's no other way around it. They're doing the right thing in releasing quickly and this sound suits a summer release. She out of all the girls would have had so much pressure on her, let's just see what the albums like if we get it. (I'm hopeful we will) Let's hope we can get a few weeks in the top 20 with this. 1 1

I know she claims she enjoys writing but her first song was an Ed Sheeran pen, and her team bought Tears off another artist. The generic writer-camp songs don't really bother me. At the end of the day, Little Mix were a "generic pop group" and most of their songs were "generic pop songs" - as long as the music is good and enjoyable I'm not really bothered, but I can understand the criticisms around her music because I'd say it's best described as "serviceable" pop music. Nothing offensively bad, but nothing overly captivating or standout either.. and pop music is very saturated right now. It does seem like most people wanted more ballads and more pop rock from her, though. Maybe she'd get a better reception if she'd have gone further down that route. Tears sounds very cute and enjoyable from the snippet but it feels almost like a waste of her voice. She has such a deep, rich tone that is perfect for belting and pop/rock and this is just….not that dddd. I personally like the dreamy smooth bops but I can see why some people aren't feeling it, it's not what you expect when you think of Perrie's vocal capabilities.
tbhmatt Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Obviously I will wait for the full thing before passing judgement but for what it's worth I like the snippet and it sounds like a smoother, more enjoyable listen to me than Forget About Us was. I'm not sure this sound is her "lane" but as long as the full thing is a bop, I don't really care ddd.
qwerty123123 Posted June 8 Posted June 8 (edited) Not sure if it's been posted but Selena snippet of this song. Could be AI but don't think the bit leading up to the chorus is out yet? Edited June 8 by qwerty123123

I think it's more the case that Selena doesn't care about her music career at the moment so didn't want to release *anything* rather than she dislikes this song specifically. I haven't seen the credits but I hope Julia Michaels is nowhere near it... 1

I know that pop/rock will feel really "outdated" in the current mainstream landscape, but I'm sucker for Perrie going for Kelly Clarkson's 2000s pop/rock route for her solos, knowing that her vocals are kind of similar to Kelly's (I mean, Forget About Us feels like something current Kelly would sing anyway) Imagine something fun like these songs for her solo 1
WERKER Posted June 9 Posted June 9 All the comments on tiktok are commenting on the lengthy tease but she will only tease for 2 weeks nnn The FAU tease did kill the success I think looking back though. If she'd had released a week before she'd have had a higher peak and a slightly lower drop.
tbhmatt Posted June 9 Posted June 9 She looks gorgeous but I already know she's going to be giving us absolutely nothing in the video ddddd 1

She shouldn't do something if she doesn't want to, But… youve gotta give *something* ddd
The Slayer Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Dear god, I cannot cope with another boring video I kinda want her to calm down with showing too many looks when there is still basically 2 weeks.
Joyride Posted June 9 Posted June 9 the snippet doesn't really sound as bad as I thought it'd be based on what I read.
Galah Posted June 10 Posted June 10 I hate to say it, but all of these girls' solo projects have been immensely disappointing. I was genuinely rooting for all of them except Jesy but some people are just destined to be in a group and have no discernible identity outside of one, I guess. Picking up Selena Gomez scraps for your second single as a solo artist is not a good look. 2

They're mothers with busy lives and are doing music as soloists for the first time. I love the choreo heavy, bubblegum pop and dance leaning side of little mix but it was always obvious to me they'd not want to release that solo - especially Perrie (although I'd be dying for a full pop girl dance moment from her). I think the song sounds fine, she isn't looking for a worldwide hit evidently - it would be lovely to get even a local hit first. As long as she enjoys the music that she's releasing I think that's all that matters.

WERKER Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Perrie saw us post in here and thought "you want choreo? I will give you minimal choreo" when posting the choreo tiktok
tbhmatt Posted June 15 Posted June 15 I feel like sadly the hype for Perrie's music has now completely evaporated and although this sounds like a cute little bop, it doesn't sound very inspired or "standout" so I don't know how well this will be received dddd. Hopefully she still manages to get her album out. I would love to hear a proper power ballad from her.
liquiddiamonds Posted June 15 Posted June 15 You can only coast on being generic for a time. One of the most faceless chorus I've heard recently. It's like people are dying to be played at department stores these days but those get you no fans
kayliah Posted June 15 Posted June 15 where's the 80's themed song that sounded like pat benatar and midnight sky.... that should have been the lead...

To answer your question before, I was expecting massive power ballads from Perrie when I initially thought of her going solo. I love Perrie but my god this campaign teasing the song is just so boring. Aren't her team supposed to be creative? The rollout is rubbish and it seems quiet hype wise, hopefully tomorrow at Capital will be a boost. I want Perrie to have a long successful solo career, as I wish for the other three girls.
