Compared to FN, yes. It hasn't done that bad all things considered but the GP has not been here for this album like they were in the past.

It did well across Europe and still managed to hit #2 in the US, plus Houdini is a hit. In what world would that be considered a flop? It may have been a bit of an underperformance (but after an era as massive as Future Nostalgia, pretty much anything would've been), but certainly nothing more or less than that.

You should add 'Megathread' to your thread title OP.

They were wrong to think she's established enough not to need all of that.

They didn't. They fired the managment and thought her dad could do the work. This is not the same as when artists think they are established.

Ot: a deserved flop

Well, I would guess they fired her team and hired the dad because they assumed she didn't need all that promo for this album as that "phase" was done for her.

Not after she adds Dance The Night, Cold Heart, Sweetest Pie, Flowers, Cruel Summer, and Shallow

Christina Aguilera was brought up in the discussion, therefore it's a flop

No. It's a BOMB.

Posted (edited)

Nope. It didn't live up to its hype, but it still spawned successful singles and caused a lot of conversation.

@halcyonday,  second downvote over not thinking Radical Optimism is some major bomb? Are you following me from thread to thread? :deadbanana2:

It's successful for an experimental psychedelic album

I expected it to flop a LITTLE but not be a Witness-level failure in the US.

I remember speculating about her next album with friends back when she was still touring FN, and they all thought I was nuts for suggesting that she had a lot of work cut out for herself moving forward - Dua is physically flawless, has a great voice, has great stage presence (now lol)... but she has ZERO relatability both on the outside and in her music as well.

Gorgeous European supermodel popstar on endless summer vacation abroad, talking art and literature over spritzes with friends? To the average american that's beyond relatable lmao :deadbanana2:

Radical Optimism wishes it was on Witness level.

It's not.

Free streams garnered from an obviously paid residency on TTH does not make a song a hit.

She literally said in an interview that she was at a point where if she didn't feel like doing something she wasn't going to LOL.

Poor Dua !!

It is as for now but she's one of the few artists who really works on longevity, with promo, singles, tour ,etc so maybe it's not done yet.
