Agreed. He has some nice songs but I feel like we're supposed to think of him as some revolutionary artist instead of a Shawn Mendes kind of radio fodder pop boy. Even before he won AOTY he was seen as the heir of Mick Jagger (lmao) simply bc he kinda looks like him.

I agree with you I love his music but he needs something more than just a 70s/80s artist throwback cover artist aesthetic. It just feels like he is imitating  Elton John, David Bowie, and mick  jagger for the 2020s.

He does have an artistic narrative around a very cool, modern persona, but maybe it's just not for you. :michael:

Describe it.

Examples: Taylor- (white)Woman/girlhood. Beyoncé- Blackness/ Black Womanhood. Bruno Mars - Motown era Showman/Musicianship. Post Malone - low selfworth and Destructive tendencies.

He's got a handful of good songs. But most of his ballads and songs outside hits hits are awful and cringe. He is a weak songwriter.

I really don't get the Bowie comparisons to his music, I mean maybe Sign of the Times vaguely sounds like Bowie a bit but overall his music is way more pop. He has some good songs though and has clearly found his niche that works for him.

Queerbaiting since no other relevant main pop boy will do it

Although I can see Abel and Benito encroaching on that territory more and more

His biggest hurdle will be if an actual gay/bi man with artistic merit and accessible music emerges. That sliver of intrigue will evaporate.
