Unapologetic was her first #1 album, after 6 other albums, and the units were also subpar. Anti is her only release in the streaming era so I can't make a direct comparison but I remember its Spotify debut wasn't all that either. She's just always had insane longevity FN being Dua's Good Girl Gone Bad and RO being her RR still makes sense for the most part. Rated R had the MASSIVE Rude Boy and even pre-LOUD Rihanna was scoring major collaborations that still made her feel like the GGGB-era girl (Live your Life, Run this Town, Love the Way you Lie). Dua's trajectory has zero to do with Rihanna's. Dozens of other girls have underwhelming debuts and are not Rihanna-like. This album had zero major hits leading to it (Houdini was already fading away), something Rihanna never did until ANTI and Work smashed alongside it. Edited May 4 by liquiddiamonds
Machete Posted May 4 Posted May 4 Most obvious downfall ever. Oh European gays who tried to convince us she is anything besides faceless, you will never be famous 5

Dua has far more hits in the album than Doja, at least scarlet pulled similar streams as PH 1
Ivan_brit Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I was expecting this numbers for the tracks but a little higher for the singles Numbers are fine not huge but it did well, SNL better help Also weird that Dua got both biggest debut of the day at the US & Global Anyway keep streaming

Blue Rose Posted May 4 Posted May 4 playlists and autoplay have painted a very inaccurate image of who is a streaming giant and who isn't. The lesson here is stans should take streaming numbers a little less seriously

Her career trajectory really reminds me of a Carly Rae Jepsen. Let's not Carly only has two legitimate hits (one of them being a feature) and no successful albums 1 1

All my Brazilian friends were going wild when FN dropped, and now not a peep from them about Dua. They're all talking about some Madonna performance instead 1
ZacXCX Posted May 4 Posted May 4 This is the most dramatic thread I've seen in a while. That one user having an entire manic episode is crazy. I think the root of the problem was the overselling of the album before it even came out. Referencing Lemonade and Massive Attack just to end up releasing an Eurovision sounding album is the recipe for disaster. We've seen in the past that Dua takes criticism quite well and is able to adjust, so hopefully she goes all-in for whatever her next direction is and doesn't dial it down.
G.U.Y_Del_Rey Posted May 4 Posted May 4 (edited) She should've just released the album in February, e.g., the Friday before the Grammys performance She just let whatever hype she had die by waiting so many months, and the worst part is that she barely did anything during all those months. She's not at a point in her career where she can just disappear a la Beyonce and succeed, she needs tons of promo and playlisting. Edited May 4 by G.U.Y_Del_Rey 2

Peak Now Posted May 4 Posted May 4 Upsetting. But I won't give up. My career was built on failures and not following the mold. I won't stop. I never have and never will. I still believe in this album. And I still will push. No matter what. 1 10
