Virgos Groove Posted May 3 Posted May 3 (edited) The 1975. WHY does Pitchfork keep putting them on the same level as Frank Ocean or Jamie xx? Also, most of those B-tier pop girls this place stans for (Sabrina, Ava, Kim Petras, etc.). EDIT: And Bruno Mars! Ultra talented performer, but his music is just Xeroxes of different eras of music (70s funk, 90s NJS, 80s Police-style rock). He got his start as a hotel entertainer and it shows. He'll never be on MJ and Prince-level since these two actually innovated and had distinctive soundscapes. Hell, even Abel, though not as good of a performer, has a far more interesting discography. Khal Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Rosalia, just sounded like tuneless, unpleasant noise. And I have no issues listening to non-English songs, so it wasn't that. 8 1 3

Maleficent Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Bjork (post-90s) and Animal Collective. I really have tried to see what other people do, but it's just noise to me.

She sings like she has a congested nose, her choreo is TERRIBLE and her music is beyond generic. I'll concede there is something captivating about her, but it is buried under a lot of mediocrity. 2
thatsmydemi Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Sabrina Carpenter. Pop Taylor. This doesn't mean I don't enjoy their stuff. I just don't get what's there that people love so much.
Cruel Summer Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I've never been able to get into Kate Bush despite multiple attempts. And I love me some art pop girlies, like Björk (legend, mother, goddess, ancestress) is my second favorite and second most played artist ever and I consider her material more "difficult" on the surface on account of her vocal style and approach to melodies - so it's really just that something isn't clicking. I can at least get really into some songs (Cloudbusting, This Woman's Work, a couple others), but the bulk of the material I've tried doesn't stick with me or draw me in. 3
AdrianNicki Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Billie and Olivia. I wanted to say Taylor but I do like some of her albums. She's just too hit or miss for me for how big she is.

Have you listened to El Mal Querer? It's much easier to digest than Motomami. Her work is amazing because she blends tradition and innovation. 2
