OT: Not surprising really but they should've also posted the 70s and the 60s (both decades would've been Barbra though ) Britney is the best selling female artists of records for the 2000s globally. With Billboard, they factor in radio play and other things which is why Alicia Keys who also sold more albums than Beyonce in the 2000s was not listed either. I think it's been clear for awhile that Billboard's formula for US has ranked the 4 ladies for each decade. What's interesting is that Madonna, Mariah, and Taylor sold the most records for females in the US and globally for their decade. When you factor in male artists of the decade each of them also sold the most records for their decade. Congrats to the ladies, though. I feel like Taylor is going to be the first to achieve it twice and as much as people claim she's "local" she will have it two decades in a row. 1

Supremes 2. Brenda Lee 3. Barbra Streisand 4. Aretha Franklin 5. Connie Francis Top Female Artists of the 1970s: 1. Carole King 2. Donna Summer 3. Olivia Newton-John 4. Barbra Streisand 5. Linda Ronstadt **(Surprisingly, Diana Ross is directly under Linda.) Top Female Artists of the 1980s: 1. Madonna 2. Whitney Houston 3. Janet Jackson 4. Pat Benatar 5. Diana Ross **(Ann & Nancy Wilson of Heart would be #3 but their bands include men.) Top Female Artists of the 1990s: 1. Mariah Carey 2. Janet Jackson 3. Whitney Houston 4. Madonna 5. TLC **(Toni Braxton would be #5 if the list is solo artists only) Top Female Artists of the 2000s: 1. Beyonce 2. Alicia Keys 3. Britney Spears 4. Destiny's Child 5. Mariah Carey **(P!nk would be #5 if the lists were solo artists only) Top Female Artists of the 2010s: 1. Taylor Swift 2. Rihanna 3. Adele 4. Katy Perry 5. Lady Gaga Notes: -Madonna, Whitney, Janet, and Mariah were all in the Top 5 for women in multiple decades. -Madonna & Whitney were the only women to in the Top 10 Overall Artists for multiple decades. Unfortunately, Mariah was #11 for the 2000s. -Michael and Madonna were damn near neck-to-neck for the 1980s. Michael had 12,610,000 points & Madonna had 12,530,000 points. This is accurate and Carole and her 14x platinum album had the girls shook. Carole, Madonna, Mariah, and Taylor had the highest sales for females in their respective decade. At one point, I thought Donna but Donna defined the 70s decade in the culture more than Carole but Carole did outsell.

But madonnas like a virgin was the first female album to be certified 5 platinum in history in 1985 back in the day. That was a record. So Carole did not sell more than 4 million in the 70s. She kept selling it afterwards as a great catalogue sale. So Donna can be still big in many ways while Carol's number was not as big as today. Edited April 28 by thequeenofpopmadonna

Punky Rooster Posted April 28 Posted April 28 (edited) 4 hours ago, HardBambi said: Madonna dominated the 80s more than the other 3 dominated their decade Absolutely correct. Every teenage and young adult female (and a lot of boys) were spending all of their pocket money and wages on her singles, albums, clothes to dress like her and dream of being her, but knowing they come nowhere close. Grown men wanted to have relations with her (and a lot of women too). Taylor's female fans these days just need to click play and borrow their mom's jeans and a sensible top and they are Taylor Swift. Edited April 28 by Punky Rooster 1 1 2
chaklux Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Beyoncé has some of the biggest hits of that decade; Crazy in love , Baby boy , Irreplaceable, Halo, Single ladies, and that's without other moderate hits like Deja vu, beautiful liar , naughty girl , If I were a boy check on it, etc. Beyoncé was the female artist of the 2000s, no doubt!

CityPop Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Mimi and Bey. The beauty, talent and relevancy of these two are on another level.

Bey's naughties domination is slept on sometimes. A very specific demographic of gay men annd women are very deluded about the popularity and SUCCESS of Beyonce because all they can manage to focus on is white women. If all you associate with the 2000s is Britney, Christina, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan you are VERY out of touch. It's so clear when people live in their own bubble. 2
Alexz Posted April 28 Posted April 28 8 hours ago, Trent W said: Bey being above Britney is not that surprising since she has more hits in the US as well as being in more formats in radio, which Britney was weak AF, and BOMT was in the late 90s kills her. Still Bey makes sense But Alicia being number 2 and above Britney makes the whole list look stupid I'm sorry but that's absolutely ridiculous. Britney was bigger than those two combined.
byzantium Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Congratulations to Taylor for being the only to achieve it not in the decade she debuted.

HardBambi Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Billboard's list is obviously accurate for the US and Beyonce was bigger than Britney, they have the facts.. but yeah from the outside as a chart lover I would have said Britney was bigger, I remember her albums opening with +1 million in the US alone or more, that was unmatched, but actually so did Bey she was number 1 with Baby boy and Irreplaceable for literally months
Funnyfatty Posted April 28 Posted April 28 Weird. Is this the US? My thought would be Britney 2000s Adele 2010s Katy/Kesha/Gaga and Rihanna has their success split into two decades so. If Rihanna would continue with releasing albums frequently or at least 2 more she could have closed the decade. 1
Dante Posted April 28 Posted April 28 2000s Beyonce? Next to Britney, Gaga and Rihanna... makes sense 1 1
Mydilemma2.0 Posted April 28 Posted April 28 (edited) Taylor should get 2020s, but the 2010s should be Rihanna/Gaga/Katy and 00s should be Brintey, not shade to Beyonce but for real Toxic alone is more remarkable than most of pop stars' careers. Edited April 28 by Mydilemma2.0

jdanton2 Posted April 28 Posted April 28 in the 2000's Britney released and charted with more albums while Beyonce was more successful on the singles charts. Beyonce 5 #1 singles 13 top 10 singles 3 #1 albums Britney 2 #1 singles 6 top 10 singles 4 #1 albums 6 top 10 albums
SuperCiC1 Posted April 28 Posted April 28 (edited) Now can Swifties stop calling them peers? Bey already CONQUERED the 00's (in a much larger and more diverse field of competition at that). The question is if Tay will take the 20s or fade out by 2026. Edited April 28 by SuperCiC1 2
