Normani - 'DOPAMINE'

I'm really enjoying the album overall. it's an enjoyable contemporary ciara-esque r&b ride, but take my time and distance are pretty mid. it's hard to believe that she doesn't have other two better tracks at the vault... lol

tomorrow I'll give it a proper second listen.

Those that have heard it in full, would any of Normani's droplet's fit on this album like Love Lies, Dancing With A Stranger, Motivation, Checklist, Waves etc.

not really tbh, but mainly because the production of this album sounds so current and fresh vs that 2018/19 sound. Love Lies would be the easiest fit of the list. Fair would work too

of the leaks, I could hear Ocean Club working with some more intense production and vocal ad libs as well as some of the other random/unnamed snippets we've heard over the years

I liked Take My Time, at least way more than Distance and Grip, those two are the only tracks I'm not in aww with

Just finished listening to the album. Initial first listen I would rate it 5-6/10. It could've been better.

The stand outs were:

All Yours - this track should've opened up the album as it better represents the overall vibe of Dopamine

Lights On

Take My Time

I feel like her best tracks were mainly the dark moody rnb songs than the hard hitting upbeat ones, plus it showed she has potential to do some disco dance type of music with Take My Time. The first two opening tracks are very wtf to me.

Are there any songs like Sledgehammer / That's My Girl / Worth It on this? :giraffe:

Lmao how many times does she have to tell yall she's not interested in that type of music? 😂

the answer is (thankfully) NO

I'm so shocked at Little Secrets, the name and placing on the tracklist made me think it would be a cute guitar driven acoustic R&B filler, I wasn't expecting to get into the ring to fight over ****, WORK! a ******* BAWPP

The run from All Yours - Insomnia + Wild Side tacked on at the end would work as a perfect EP.

Oh wow, the album came!

I was half-expecting her to go Sky Ferreira based on all the posts/jokes about her delays :dies:

Big congrats to her though! :clap3: I'll check this out when it's out for me!

Has anyone noticed that the album mix of Candy Paint is so much better now? It doesn't sound like a leaked mp3 file anymore

after a few listening i am so in love with this album

its so hard hitting and cohesive, so much so that wild side fits perfectly in it and doesnt feel like it was tackled on the tracklist at all

If the world was fair, this album would be launching Normani directly into the SZA, Summer Walker, main r&b girl debates + grammys talk.

Dopamine is like opening a new box/lane neither SZA or Summer are covering in r&b. There's probably some unknown artists doing music like this but Normani is a more famous/trendy name making this high quality of output. Especially, someone more known for performances than individual songs. Her sound rebrand is so real here.

Um…. this album is GOOD. I'm only on track 5 and sis ain't missed yet. Such a shame that this album wasn't set up for success. I hope something catches on and it eventually blows up.

It's so different wtf...extra harmonies all over as well

Grip, Little Secrets, Lights On, Candy Paint and Wild Side are the highlights for me. Solid debut album from Normani. I'd give it a 7/10.

I just hope a follow-up album doesn't take another 5 years.

Yeah, I wonder why they released that messy mix as a single?

Okay, I'm on track 6, WTF. All bops so far.  What kind of emergency do we need for people to gravitate to sis. She did her thang!

Wait. I was too harsh on Take My Time.

This is very Kaytranada-lite.

I love Wild Side and I'm glad it's on the album. But something about that transition from Little Secrets into Wild Side feels so off. Like it feels like it got tacked on the end.

I would have put Wild Side before after 1:59. My only criticism of the album other than the fact I absolutely do not like Candy Paint.

Give Normani her 10's!
