Taylor will debut with 2m+ but it feels like she lost. Why?

This week should've been a triumph for Taylor Swift as her new album has been performing very well commercially.

But the popular discussion around her hasn't been this negative since 2016, and music critics haven't been this unkind to her since Reputation.

Why?

This is her most stable release on streaming

People are talking about her unlike most of your fav who don't even get 1 day to themselves

Sales is just bonus. Don't worry she will be here

Thanks for concern

This is such an extreme exaggeration it's laughable – the discourse this week doesn't come close to even a fraction of 2016. Your Twitter timeline and ATRL are not representative of popular discussion.

Mind you, TTPD just pulled 150M+ on Spotify in its fourth day and continues to occupy streaming charts across the world, even on AM where she's historically performed weaker with previous releases. Many songs are going viral and increasing their chart hold by the day. Clearly the public is tuned in :fan:

OTHs have been attacking her since forever. You are delusional if you think she lost just because ATRL and twitter are hating like you always do :giraffe:

This will only serve as a fuel for her fans to become more attached to her. Let's be honest here... They're already creating conspiracy theories over this whole situation

It's because she's reached that part of fame where she's so oversaturated that it's now cool to not like her. Fame tends to make one into an object in the eyes of people, like a piece of clothing. She's basically skinny jeans circa 2019. I think it doesn't help that tiktok and spotify made her into a pop-up ad, people really reject that sort of thing when they feel they can't be the master of their own domains (like when U2 got their album on everyone's phone).

because now that she can't grow on sales it shows how little she has grown artistically

We will see with the longevity and if there's any legit hit in the album (not fueled by her stans).

But yeah, she needs a break for some months after the huge inevitable first weeks of this album so the GP can miss her again, she's very overexposed right now.

Taylor is currently is in a position where she feels overexposed and now it's becoming "cool" to dislike her all over again just like in 2016-2019.

Of course, Taylor is a much more established artist now so she still has tons of love and support to counter the critics and haters but it's open season on Taylor. In a nutshell, this creates a perfect storm to drop Reputation(TV) this year.

You literally have mainstream news outlets talking about SwiftlyNeutral and comparing Swifties to a cult. People already said these things on ATRL and other online spaces but now mainstream outlets are trying to cash in on the Taylor fatique and has beens like Courtney Love can gain quick clout for bashing her music.

Taylor's winning too much and certain people are sick of it. I feel like, even if TTPD was a better or more cohesive album, it was bound to get panned more than Midnights.

Taylor will still remain successful nonetheless but she's going to have to take a hiatus after Reputation(TV) and make people miss her so that she doesn't become the "Snake Queen" all over again.

It's a fantastic album receiving fantastic success.

That being said, I think she's overexposed and there's Taylor fatigue looming over.

It's just a "feeling" cause she's still smashing.

Regardless, I get what you mean. And it's because she's already reached unprecedented levels of success this generation, she is astronomically above the rest of her peers. She has nothing left to prove success-wise.

However, the question is now: can she produce a record that lives up to this hype? For people outside of her fanbase who will most likely always support her, the answer seems to be no this time around and might lead people to believe the hype was for nothing.

Taylor will always be successful, the only current question is if her musical output can match that of a superstar. She proved it can with Folklore/Evermore but that was before her 3rd massive repeak. We're waiting to see if she can reach those levels with her new success.

The quality of the music. I don't think her fans are even satisfied after getting 31 new songs. Everything felt the same. This is why breaks are important.

I said it hasn't been this negative since 2016 - not that it's the same as 2016. Keep going to those remedial classes sweetie, you can do it! :heart2:

The album has a 77 on metacritic. Everyone talks about that. The albums Is coming for grammys nominees in Major categories. It's ok.

Sometimes Is good to be divisive, all the greatest from madonna to MJ to the US to Whitney have been. It's boring to Always being perfect and serving like olivia an album normal people laughs about when they hear about all the 10s and then sounds like Avril Lavigne meeting the most basic alanix morisette you can have. Infact everyone stop to listened After 2 weeks.

She's literally not been doing much since the last leg of the eras tour in terms of promo E.g.public appearances etc. It's all been social media and I think that was clever but geez people just love to hate successful women.
