Damien M Posted April 19 Posted April 19 White women outnumber black women in the USA. That's literally it. 2
Kristie Kuwa Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Shes black, shes unafraid to be political, shes constantly changing her sound, shes an artist that tries to change the musical landscape and trends with each of her releases while the other one just milks her fans recycling herself, Lorde and Lana sounds every time and sells it as peak artistry. 7 1
Bey_Rihstan Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Beyonce is Black and Controversial. Taylor is white safe and palatable there are many more answers but that is the main one 3
Robyn. Posted April 19 Posted April 19 I remember seeing a Tik Tok a while ago of someone explaining that Taylor's success is due to her relatibility in terms of talent. It was something like "Yeah, she can't dance, nor is she a vocalist, and a showgirl, but people relate to her because she made it and proved that everyone can make it without being excentric" Like it's crazy how someone would be praised for being mediocre and ordinary because it's relatable and easy to identify with? 2
Feanor Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Just look at the engagement Taylor creates on this site even with so many haters. There are stars, and then there are superstars. Taylor is in a league of her own in terms of the celebrity she is. 2
Brooklyn Baby Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Went through all the pages and most of the replies aren't even Swifties The obsession actually needs to be studied 3

TayDuaStan Posted April 19 Posted April 19 (edited) She'll sell more when she becomes more relatable. How can someone relate to her when most of her lyrics look like this: "We clappin' We drummin' (Ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya) oh, ya-ya-ya (Oh, ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya) oh, ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya (Oh, ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya-ya) ya-ya-ya B-E-Y-I-N-C-É, ya" or "It's not the diamonds It's not the pearls I'm that girl (I'm that girl), it's just that I'm that girl (I'm that girl) It's not my man (ooh) It's not my stance (ooh) I'm that girl (I'm that girl), it's just that I'm that girl". Plus she needs 20+ co-writers for this A) u know ur trying way to hard when there are several songs that have profound lyrics on Cowboy Carter and Renaissance B) when many writers come together and create a masterpiece like American Requiem vs 2 creating those songs on that new Taylor album, I GLADLY take American Requiem. It literally washes the entirety of Taylor's new album 3 2

Plenty of people DO relate to Bey's work. 4. The 20+ co-writers drag is tired. Look up how sampling and interpolation work in this post-Blurred Lines world. 6

When Whitney's music started being more RnB and less middle of the road adult contemporary, her sales suffered. Similarly with Mariah, when her Blackness became more pronounced and her music more adjacent to hip hop and RnB her sales suffered. The exact same thing happened to Beyonce post Sasha Fierce. It's not rocket science. 7 1

Plus she needs 20+ co-writers for this I'M THAT GIRL lyrics are meaningful, and actually can be relatable to people. There are many things you're choosing to ignore there. In the other hand, that part in YA YA is not meant to be relatable. It has it's purpose unlike "hey kids spelling is fun" "you can't spell awesome without me" actually, the difference between these lyrics can explain the Taylor appeal to the mass public most people don't want intelligent and complex production and themes 2
Mr. Duff Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Relatability is important. I think Taylor draws in the GP because she has a lot of songs that have mass appeal with quality and not just made for mainstream. Her songwriting ability reaches out so far it can encapsulate different emotions and perspective to whoever listens to the songs. Beyonce lacks that. Beyonce's amazing, a well-rounded glorious pop superstar, but she's still not as relatable and while her productions, samples, interpolations and whatnot are brilliant, they don't draw in more listeners than her normal base. This is how powerful songwriting is. A beautifully crafted solidly written song on a piano will sound timeless compared to intricate layers of samples.
ttsmu Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Nobody cares. Taylor fans get the sales and streams. Beyonce fans get the better music and voice. 1
Kalmanta Posted April 19 Posted April 19 On her first solo album she had songs like Naughty Girl and Speechless, and kept on showing proudly her sexuality and sensuality with further releases. She was never 100% positioned to reach the biggest music consuming target group, you know which one I'm talking about. That's why for example Alicia Keys moved more albums with her first 3 records. 1
tiagol88 Posted April 19 Posted April 19 (edited) One just makes more accessible / harmless music and doesn't ruffle any feathers so she doesn't lose her fanbase. The other one takes a lot more risks with her music, barely promotes her stuff, isn't white, is in her 40's, etc... Edited April 19 by tiagol88
Raava Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Taylor sells more cause she's the better artist, although Beyoncé is a phenomenal art curator.
newaespa Posted April 19 Posted April 19 btw, isn't SZA black as well? Yet she is selling extremely well. so the excuses Beyhive giving...it is just so weird 2
